de Havilland Tiger Moth 47” Wing Span Plan The de Havilland DH 82 Tiger Moth is a 1930s biplane designed by Geoffrey de Havilland and was operated by the Royal Air Force (RAF) and others as a primary trainer. The Tiger Moth remained in service with the RAF until replaced by the de Havilland Chipmunk in 1952, when many of the surplus aircraft entered civil operation. Many other nations used the Tiger Moth in both military and civil applications, and it remains in widespread use as a recreational aircraft in many countries. It is still occasionally used as a primary training aircraft, particularly for those pilots wanting to gain experience before moving on to other tailwheel aircraft, although most Tiger Moths have a skid. Many are now employed by various companies offering trial lesson experiences. Those in private hands generally fly far fewer hours and tend to be kept in concours condition. The de Havilland Moth club founded 1975 is now a highly organized owners' association offering technical support and focus for Moth enthusiasts. de Havilland Tiger Moth 47” Wing Span Plan de Havilland Tiger Moth 47” Wing Span Plan Design and development The Tiger Moth trainer prototype was derived from the DH 60 de Havilland Gipsy Moth in response to Air Ministry specification 13/31 for an ab-initio training aircraft. The main change to the DH Moth series was necessitated by a desire to improve access to the front cockpit since the training requirement specified that the front seat occupant had to be able to escape easily, especially when wearing a parachute.[2] Access to the front cockpit of the Moth predecessors was restricted by the proximity of the aircraft's fuel tank directly above the front cockpit and the rear cabane struts for the upper wing. -

BSc Business Administration How have current market conditions affected Icelandic airlines compared to international competitors and how to they perform differently? December 2018 Student: Þórunn Andrésdóttir Kt: 160493-2759 Instructor: Katrín Ólafsdóttir Scanned with CamScanner Abstract The behavior of the commercial aviation market has changed greatly in the last 4 decade which has caused the market to shift from an oligopoly market to a monopolistic competitive market. This shift has increased competition in the market as low-cost carriers, budget airlines, have entered the market causing the prices of airfare to drop. With increased competition on the market and new airlines entering the market with innovative ideas, it has created operation difficulties for airlines in the market. In particular the Icelandic airlines, as airline expenses have steadily been increasing. Rising jet fuel prices, increasing average wages and exchange rate deficit are among the changes in the market that are weighing heavily on airlines expenses. This thesis discusses how these market factors affect the Icelandic airlines and how their performance is different compared to the competition in the market. The analysis that was conducted showed that the Icelandic airlines spend more on jet fuel and employee’s salary than their competition. However, Icelandair’s unit cost was the second lowest in the analysis which indicates that the airline is more likely to survive if there will be a major decrease in airfare demand in the market. Key words: commercial aviation, Icelandic airlines, jet fuel, average wages, CASK, transatlantic routes. Part Two 1914 -1938 Part Two 1914 - 1938 Childhood and Families Alan Brind My granddad was Herbert Allen (Jack) Laxton 1884 – 1936. He married Eva Whitear from Titchfield in 1913 and they lived at 81 West St. Titchfield. Jack served for 24 years in the 108th Heavy Battery Royal Garrison Artillery which, as Sergeant, he left in 1926. He was a horseman par excellence and served the whole of WW1 in France and Belgium coming through numerous engagements uninjured. He was awarded a Mons Star with Clasp and Roses, British Army War Medal and Victory Medals. He left the army in 1926 and became a bricklayer and worked on the building of Titchfield Primary School and also the Embassy and Savoy cinemas in Fareham. It was ironic that despite having worked with horses throughout his army career, he died, aged 52, following an infection due to a bite from a horse fly. Donald Upshall As I was the first grandchild in the Upshall family I was named after my uncle who was killed in WW1. If you look in the church you will see his name on the remembrance plaque. My father started the garage on East Street when I was born. Now, in 2015, we've been in business 89 years. Today you don't realise how narrow the roads were then. There were no kerbs. You just walked along the edge of the road. But there wasn’t much traffic then. It is so different now of course. I remember the main A27 road. I used to push my brother in his pushchair all the way in to Fareham where they had all these Hornby toys. -

Tourism in Iceland: Soft landing or a belly flop? (p. 38) – Airbnb showing signs of growing pains (p. 49) • How quickly the tide turns (p. 54) Key findings • Increased capacity of the Icelandic airlines has played a large role in the sensational growth in tourist arrivals to Iceland. • Although oil prices have surged since 2016, airfares have not followed. According to estimates, the Icelandic airlines will pay around one thousand ISK with each passenger in 2018, a development that is unsustainable in the long run. Airfares are simply too cheap and they need to increase. Analysis of tourist’s price elasticity of demand indicate that rising airfares could lead to decrease in number of tourists, especially if the ISK remains strong. • We predict very little growth in tourism in the coming years. In our base case tourist arrivals will increase by 1.4% next year and 2.4% in 2020. There is quite a lot of uncertainty, but we consider the downward risk to be greater. For example, if growth in VIA passengers continues at the same rate in 2019 as it has done in 2018, number of inbound tourists could slightly decrease. Global trade tension could also slow growth in passenger transport, a development which would affect Iceland. -

The ATC was Page 4 Commanded by Squadron Leader Furlong, an accomplished glider pilot, I flew with him in a Slingsby Falcon 111 glider in a field close to Kidbrooke, south London. All the previous pictures are from my personal album, the next two are from the Web Slingsby Falcon 111 Glider Lockheed Ventura The Ventura had only a short operational history with the RAF, sometime between May 1942 and September 1943, as it had not proved a very successful aircraft. It had been operated by 21, 467 and 487 Squadrons and eventually replaced by the DH Mosquito. It would appear that none of these squadrons operated from any of the aerodromes I remember visiting, however, along with my friend Johnny Cook; we both remember flying in the Ventura. Johnny thought that this particular Ventura may have been used as a communication aircraft and therefore not part of a regular squadron. It could therefore have been operating anywhere during late ‘42 early ‘43. -

BMFA Scale Technical Committee Newsletter - December 2013 Editorial: Andy Sephton The main news for this issue is Scale Helicopters will be joining BMFA Scale from the R/C Power Technical Committee with effect from the 2014 season. The 2014 Rule Book will incorporate the Helicopter Scale Rules and we will be co-opting a Scale Helicopter flyer onto the Scale Technical Committee. I didn’t get the chance to see them at this year’s Nationals, but I’m looking forward to witnessing their models next year. I’m sure you’ll join me in giving them a warm welcome into our group. For Scale Indoor Flyers, please note that the next Scale Indoor Nationals will be my last as organiser. We need a successor, please contact me for more information. I was asked by more than one modeller if static judging could be brought into the flying only schedule for Scale Indoor Free Flight and RC so that more complex models with less than ideal flying characteristics would not be disadvantaged. The very reason that flying only was introduced was to give the less complex models a chance in Scale competition. It also allows models with less than complete documentation to be constructed and demonstrated in competition. The best place to compete complex models is the Nationals, Flying Only is for flying models and there is no mark given for complexity. There will be a number of rule changes for 2014 in the January 2014 issue of the BMFA Scale Rule Book. See later in this Newsletter for a summary Results: to save space, result tables for those competitions that have their results promulgated on the Scale BMFA website have not been included in the Newsletter. -

The project is designed to provide significant additional energy interconnection between Ireland, the UK and continental Europe with the aim of delivering increased security of supply, fuel diversity and greater competition. It is also designed to provide additional transmission network capacities, reinforcing the existing electricity grids in south-east Ireland and south Wales. The study area is approximately 160km in length and spans the St George’s Channel, including areas of landfall in Ireland and Wales. Its westernmost section intercepts the Hook Peninsula in County Wexford and the easternmost section incorporates an area of land surrounding Freshwater West Beach in Pembrokeshire.
