Reconsidering Paleozoic Differences Between the Jadar Block and the Drina–Ivanjica Unit
GEOLOŠKI ANALI BALKANSKOGA POLUOSTRVA Volume 81 (1), July 2020, 1–9 – https://doi.org/10.2298/GABP191014002S Original scientific paper Оригинални научни рад Reconsidering Paleozoic differences between the Jadar block and the Drina–Ivanjica unit 1 2 Arko PAhIć IVADAr AuDENyI D S & T G Abstract. The peculiar Jadar block has an intervening position separating the main Neotethyanvs. West Vardar Zone (includingvs. ophiolites of Late Jurassic age) and a passive margin lithospheric segment of the Apulia/Adria microplate referred to as the Drina-Ivanjica block. The review aimed to reassess the peri- Neotethyan paleogeography affecting the evolution of the Neotethyan oceanic crust (‘single’ ‘multiple oceans’ or single- two ophiolite belts) by juxta - posing the key differences of the late Variscan temporal evolution (controlling early Alpine paleogeography) between the Jadar block and Drina–Ivanjica crystalline segment. The study goal is the questionable paleogeographic affinity of the Jadar block. Contrary to the recent inferences attributing the Jadar block as a segment of the Apulia/Adria microplate, the study examine whether and how the Jadar Late Paleozoic succession may allow for an alter - Key words: native paleogeographic solution of the Neotethyan relevance. According to this Jadar terrane, Drina–Ivanjica block, comparison survey of these late Paleozoic successions, it appears that the Permian-Triassic paleogeography, Jadar block may carry a (tentative) evidence of the proximity of the western Eocimmerian basement, Paleotethys, i.ePaleotethys. Schmid Received: 28 February 2018 / Accepted: 6 June 2018 / Published online: 27 June 2018 Ó Swiss Geological Society 2018 Abstract An ophiolitic me´lange of Avala Mountain located south of Belgrade was studied to obtain age data from blocks of radiolarian cherts and to enable better understanding of age and nature of this me´lange. The studied area is located south of Avala Mt. and its geotectonic position is rather obscure. The obtained data allow us to determine radiolarians from five samples; one is of Late Anisian to Early Ladinian, and four of them are of Middle Jurassic (Late Bathonian–Early Callovian) age. The finding of Triassic as well as Jurassic age radiolarians in one and the same me´lange suggests that this me´lange formed during obduction of the Western Vardar ophiolites. Bronze Age Amber in Western and Central Balkans Bronastodobni
Razpoložljivi podatki, povezani s to temo, so bili analizirani z uporabo različnih računskih metod. Predhodno tipološko opredeljene jantarne jagode kažejo kronološke razlike, kar omogoča delitev na dva glavna sklopa, ki ju je mogoče pripisati srednji in mlajši oz. pozni bro- nasti dobi. Nekatere oblike so v uporabi v obeh obdobjih. Ključne besede: Balkan; bronasta doba; jantar; nakit; menjava; trgovina; analiza stikov; analiza mrež Abstract The paper touches upon the issue of amber inflow to Western and Central Balkans, and its circulation between in- dividual regions situated in this zone, during the Bronze Age (more specifically around 1600–900 BC). By using several computational methods, currently available data related to this topic is re-analysed. Previously distinguished types of amber beads show chronological differentiation that allows separating them into two major assemblages assignable to the Middle and Late Bronze Age respectively, with some forms having a prolonged use, overlapping both periods.
