They are distributed unevenly; with the greatest number and density occurring in the Oriental Biogeographic Region and the smallest in the East Palearctic. Ecosystem services provided by Trichoptera are also very diverse and include their essential roles in food webs, in biological monitoring of water quality, as food for fish and other predators (many of which are of human concern), and as engineers that stabilize gravel bed sediment. They are especially important in capturing and using a wide variety of nutrients in many forms, transforming them for use by other organisms in freshwaters and surrounding riparian areas. -

Eight new species of Hydroptilidae in four genera are described from Bali including two species in Microptila Ris, one in Plethus Hagen, two in Stactobia McLachlan, and three in Chrysotrichia Schmid. New records are given for Plethus baliana (Ulmer), one of the four previously established Balinese micro-caddisfly species. Introduction Among the caddisflies (Trichoptera) previously described from Bali (Ulmer 1951, 1957) are four species in the family Hydroptilidae. One of these, Orthotrkhia litoralis (Ulmer, 1951) is known only from Bali, the others occur on other Indonesian islands: Plethus cruciatus Ulmer, 1951, is also recorded from Sumatra and Orthotrkhia ranauana (Ulmer, 1951) and Plethus baliana (Ulmer, 1951) both occur on Java and Sumatra. New records are given for P. baliana, and one new species in Plethus Hagen, 1887, two in Stactobia McLachlan, 1880, three in Chrysotrichia Schmid, 1958, and two in Microptila Ris, 1887, are described, with the latter three genera being recorded from Bali for the first time. Given the wider distributions of three of Ulmer's species, it is probable that the new species also occur beyond Bali. The family is still very poorly known from many parts of Indonesia. Lotic systems of Bali are under considerable pressure from domestic and agricul• tural use; undoubtedly their invertebrate faunas have suffered in the past and will continue to do so. -

Journal288 of Species Research 9(3):288-323, 2020JOURNAL OF SPECIES RESEARCH Vol. 9, No. 3 A checklist of Trichoptera (Insecta) of the Korean Peninsula Sun-Jin Park and Dongsoo Kong* Department of Life Science, Kyonggi University, Suwon 16227, Republic of Korea *Correspondent: [email protected] A revised checklist of Korean Trichoptera is provided for the species recorded from the Korean Peninsula, including both North and South Korea. The checklist includes bibliographic research as well as results after reexamination of some specimens. For each species, we provide the taxonomic literature that examined Korean Trichoptera materials or mentioned significant taxonomic treatments regarding to Korean species. We also provide the records of unnamed species based on larval identification for further study. Based on taxonomic considerations, 20 species among the previously known nominal species in Korea are deleted or synonymized, and three species omitted from the previous lists, Hydropsyche athene Malicky and Chantaramongkol, 2000, H. simulata Mosely, 1942 and Helicopsyche coreana Mey, 1991 are newly added to the checklist. Hydropsyche formosana Ulmer, 1911 is recorded from the Korean Peninsula for the first time by the identification of Hydropsyche KD. In addition, we recognized 14 species of larvae separated with only tentative alphabetic designations. As a result, this new Korean Trichoptera checklist includes 218 currently recognized species in 66 genera and 25 families from the Korean Peninsula. Hydroptilidae and Lepidostomatidae Tomiko ITO, Kazumi TANIDA and Takao NOZAKI Abstract This is the first in a series of checklists which will review taxonomical, biogeogra- phical and ecological publications on Japanese Trichoptera. This part deals with 10 species belonging to 4 genera of Hydroptilidae and 31 species belonging to 5 genera of Lepidostomatidae. In Hydroptilidae we suggest four taxonomical problems: 1) Hydroptila itoi KOBAYASHIand Stactobia japonica IWATAshould be compared with similar species from the adjacent country; 2) descriptions of Hydroptila usuguronis MATSUMURAand Oxyethi- ra angustella MARTYNOVare insufficient for species identification; 3) many descriptions of larvae and cases are also insufficient for species identification; 4) four undescribed species are in the collections of the authors. The Japanese Lepidostomatidae have been intensively studied in recent years . However, two taxonomical problems remain: 1) generic status of four species, Dinarth- rodes albardanus (ULMER), D. albicorne (BANKS), D. elongatus MARTYNOVand D. kasugaensis TANI, has not been clarified; 2) nine undescribed species have been co- llected. They are indirectly involved in the organization of the cytoplasmic microtubules both in interphase and during the cell division by recruiting the molecules needed for microtubule nucleation. Moreover, the centrioles are required to assemble cilia and flagella by the direct elongation of their microtubule wall. Due to the importance of the cytoplasmic microtubules in several aspects of the cell life, any defect in centriole structure can lead to cell abnormalities that in humans may result in significant diseases. Many aspects of the centriole dynamics and function have been clarified in the last years, but little attention has been paid to the exceptions in centriole structure that occasionally appeared within the animal kingdom. Here, we focused our attention on non-canonical aspects of centriole architecture within the Hexapoda. The Hexapoda is one of the major animal groups and represents a good laboratory in which to examine the evolution and the organization of the centrioles. -
