  • Institutional Strengthening in Waste Management in Medan, Binjai, Deli Serdang, Karo (Mebidangro)
Institutional Strengthening in Waste Management in Medan, Binjai, Deli Serdang, Karo (Mebidangro) Hatta Ridho1, M. Arif Nasution2, Subhilhar3, Muryanto Amin4 1,2,3,4 University of Sumatera, Indonesia [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] Abstract Keywords institutional strengthening; Weak coordination can also be seen in the achievement of cooperation agreements between regions in the Mebidangro area. mebidangro; waste area For example, how the weak coordination between Pemko Medan and Pemko Deli Serdang resulted in the closure of the TPA Namo Bintang in Pancur Batu sub-district, even though Presidential Decree No. 62/2011 has designated TPA Namo Bintang together with TPAatuh in Medan Marelan as a garbage landfill for residents of Medan city. Weak coordination certainly requires institutional strengthening that can ensure synergy among government ranks in the Mebidangro area to be able to overcome problems faced together. This research was conducted in the Mebidangro area by using qualitative which focused on the problems that existed at the time of the research or the actual problems as well as the facts about the problems being investigated as they were, accompanied by sufficient rational interpretation. Data collection techniques through observation, interviews and limited group discussions. The character of the Mebidangro implementing organs has not shown an orderly working mechanism, where the two main components of the character of the implementing organs, namely the SOP and the division of tasks / authorities between the provincial government and district / city governments as well as between district / city governments throughout the Mebidangro region do not exist.

  • Death Is Never Over Life, Death and Grave Robbery in a Historic Cemetery
Death is Never Over Life, Death and Grave Robbery in a Historic Cemetery By Rebecca Boggs Roberts B.A. in Politics, June 1992, Princeton University A Thesis submitted to The Faculty of The Columbian College of Arts and Sciences of The George Washington University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts May 20, 2012 Thesis directed by Roy Richard Grinker Professor of Anthropology, International Affairs, and Human Sciences Dedication This thesis is dedicated to the 55,000 men and women who are buried at Historic Congressional Cemetery in Washington, D.C. It’s been nice knowing you. ii Acknowledgements The author wishes to thank the staff at Historic Congressional Cemetery for their support and good humor; Cokie and Steve Roberts for the babysitting and copy editing; Dan Hartman for his infinite patience; and Jack, Cal, and Roland Hartman for letting mom steal the comfy desk chair. iii Abstract Death is Never Over Life, Death, and Grave Robbery in a Historic Cemetery The anthropology of death rituals describes various relationships among the three points of a triangle formed by the corpse, the soul, and the survivors. This structure, first proposed by Robert Hertz in 1907 and adapted many times since then, is useful for comparing seemingly disparate death rituals across cultures. Using this structure, the relative emphasis of one leg of the triangle over another can help clarify the needs a living community prioritizes upon the death of one of its members. I argue one leg of this triangle, the connection between the survivor and the corpse, deserves a longer period of examination.

  • Dissection: a Fate Worse Than Death
Res Medica, Volume 21, Issue 1 Page 1 of 8 HISTORICAL ARTICLE Dissection: a fate worse than death Elizabeth F. Pond Year 3, MBBS Hull York Medical School Correspondence email: [email protected] Abstract The teaching of Anatomy in medical schools has significantly declined, and doubts have been raised over whether or not doctors of today are fully equipped with anatomical knowledge required to practice safely. The history of anatomy teaching has changed enormously over centuries, and donating your body to medical science after death is very different today, compared with the body snatching and exhumations of the 18th and 19th centuries. With stories of public outcry, theft and outright murder, the history of anatomical education is a fascinating one. History has made an abundance of significant anatomical discoveries, is it not fundamental that medical students today are aware of the great lengths that our peers went to in order to obtain such pioneering discoveries? • Reflecting Antiquity Explores the Rediscovery of Roman Glass and Its Influence on Modern Glass Production
Reflecting Antiquity explores the rediscovery of Roman glass and its influence on modern glass production. It brings together 112 objects from more than 24 lenders, featuring ancient Roman originals as well as the modern replicas they inspired. Following are some of the highlights on view in the exhibition. Portland Vase Base Disk The Portland Vase is the most important and famous work of cameo glass to have survived from ancient Rome. Modern analysis of the vase, with special attention to the elongation of the bubbles preserved in the lower body, suggest that it was originally shaped as an amphora (storage vessel) with a pointed base. At some point in antiquity, the vessel suffered some damage and acquired this replacement disk. The male figure and the foliage on the disk were not carved by the same Unknown artist that created the mythological frieze on the vase. Wearing a Phrygian cap Portland Vase Base Disk Roman, 25 B.C.–A.D. 25 and pointing to his mouth in a gesture of uncertainty, the young man is Paris, a Glass Object: Diam.: 12.2 cm (4 13/16 in.) prince of Troy who chose Aphrodite over Hera and Athena as the most beautiful British Museum. London, England GR1945.9-27.2 goddess on Mount Olympus. It is clear from the way the image is truncated that VEX.2007.3.1 it was cut from a larger composition, presumably depicting the Judgment of Paris. The Great Tazza A masterpiece of cameo-glass carving, this footed bowl (tazza) consists of five layers of glass: semiopaque green encased in opaque white, green, a second white, and pink.

This is simply because old gnome vaults and some deep gnome she’s so far from land and trade routes that lore too. • Heraldic Terms
HERALDIC TERMS The following terms, and their definitions, are used in heraldry. Some terms and practices were used in period real-world heraldry only. Some terms and practices are used in modern real-world heraldry only. Other terms and practices are used in SCA heraldry only. Most are used in both real-world and SCA heraldry. All are presented here as an aid to heraldic research and education. A LA CUISSE, A LA QUISE - at the thigh ABAISED, ABAISSÉ, ABASED - a charge or element depicted lower than its normal position ABATEMENTS - marks of disgrace placed on the shield of an offender of the law. There are extreme few records of such being employed, and then only noted in rolls. (As who would display their device if it had an abatement on it?) ABISME - a minor charge in the center of the shield drawn smaller than usual ABOUTÉ - end to end ABOVE - an ambiguous term which should be avoided in blazon. Generally, two charges one of which is above the other on the field can be blazoned better as "in pale an X and a Y" or "an A and in chief a B". See atop, ensigned. ABYSS - a minor charge in the center of the shield drawn smaller than usual ACCOLLÉ - (1) two shields side-by-side, sometimes united by their bottom tips overlapping or being connected to each other by their sides; (2) an animal with a crown, collar or other item around its neck; (3) keys, weapons or other implements placed saltirewise behind the shield in a heraldic display.
