Streiflichter Zur Hotel- Und Tourismusgeschichte Im Saastal Bis Zum Ersten Weltkrieg 1
STREIFLICHTER ZUR HOTEL- UND TOURISMUSGESCHICHTE IM SAASTAL BIS ZUM ERSTEN WELTKRIEG 1 Roland Flückiger-Seiler 1 Die Entdeckung und Erforschung der Alpenwelt Wichtige Grundlagen für die Entdeckung der Schweizer Alpen als «Garten Edens» leisteten engagierte Forscher und Schriftsteller bereits im frühen 18. Jahrhun- dert. -

Absolutely Natural
Absolutely natural. Summer 2006 SAAS-FEE SAAS-GRUND SAAS-ALMAGELL SAAS-BALEN Absolutely Saas-Fee. Finally a holiday … … and we are looking forward to it just as much as you are. A holiday al- ready begins with planning and anticipating the well-earned break. This information booklet about Saas-Fee and the Saas Valley aims to help you prepare for your next holiday in the best possible way. Choosing your holiday destination is no doubt the key task as far as holiday plans are concerned. Don't leave anything to chance and take your time be- fore making a decision. This booklet offers you an opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty of this region and discover the diversity and natural beauty of the Saas Valley. However, a successful holiday also depends on your own input: leave the daily grind and work behind and relax. Recharge in this magical mountain landscape which is bursting with energy. Allow the giant mountains and their glaciers, the sun and crystal-clear water, fragrant woods, mountain herbs and fauna to take effect on your body. Some of the powerful larches were in this beautiful valley long before tourists first set foot in it. Encounters with the locals of the Saas Valley, their brown, sun-worn houses and barns make this a memorable holiday. Enjoy with an ease you've never experienced be- fore. This is how good a holiday can be. This summer past saw the «Saastal» being awarded with the stamp of quali- ty slogan «families welcome». Family oriented locations holding this title offer everything that a family-based holiday could wish for. -
By Emine Sevgi Özdamar Translated by Leslie A. Adelson
“On the Train” by Emine Sevgi Özdamar Translated by Leslie A. Adelson Translator’s Introduction Emine Sevgi Özdamar, born in 1946 and raised as what the author herself calls a ‘child of Istanbul’, first attracted widespread attention from German literary critics in 1991 when she was awarded the prestigious Ingeborg Bachmann Prize for Literature for her first German novel, which appeared nearly ten years later in English translation as Life is a Caravanserai: Has Two Doors I Came in One I Went Out the Other (this novel has been translated into ten additional languages, including Turkish). Even prior to this dramatic entry on the German literary scene, however, Özdamar was already emerging as a transnational player in postwar German culture in several different ways that would significantly influence the trajectory of her literary career too. One of the so-called guest workers recruited from Turkey in the 1960s to mitigate the labor shortage in divided Germany, Özdamar lived in Berlin as a factory worker from 1965 to 1967. Pursuing a professional acting career upon her return to Istanbul in the late 1960s, she performed key roles in Turkish stagings of German plays by the likes of Bertolt Brecht and Peter Weiss, including the pivotal role of Charlotte Corday in the revolutionary Marat-Sade play that made Weiss internationally famous. After her return to Europe in the 1970s—when Turkish persecution of leftists was especially brutal—Özdamar assisted with theatrical productions by some of the most sought after directors in both the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic, including Benno Besson, Matthias Langhoff, Claus Peymann, Franz Xaver Kroetz, and Einar Schleef. -

Carl Zuckmayer, Sohn Eines Fabrikanten Für Weinflaschenkapseln in Nackenheim, Wuchs Von 1900 an in Mainz Auf

DESCRIPTORS Classroom Techniques; *Films; *German; *Instructional Materials; *Literature Appreciation; Second Language Instruction; Second Language Learning; Student Motivation ABSTRACT While students are struggling with the basic concepts of learning a second language, they are not likely to be intrigued by the language as the key to literature. In the first two years of language study, the amount of material being studied and the focus on language acquisition are such that film can be accommodated as an outside activity carrying credit. A German series of literature on film, designed for television, and literature interpreted for the cinema by film authors offer diversity in the language classroom, are well suited for classroom use, and are readily available. A brief in-class introduction of the author, the period, and the film establishes the literary context before viewing. A discussion of students' written critiques after viewing the film serve to clarify any questions students might have. Use of English in students' critical commentary is permissible only in the first semester. Students eventually recognize that subtitles are actually a hindrance, and they soon notice the inaccuracies in them. If appropriately used at each level, film will support literature before and when it can be read, while adding its own dimension to and interpretation of the written work. -
