Make the Most of a Layover in Munich ©JetSetting Fools | JetSettingFools.com Munich Sights and a Short History The city center of Munich is compact, making it easy to see many sights in a short amount of time. Munich was founded in 1158 and in 1175 the small city, with Marienplatz at the center, was fortified with protective walls. By 1330, the city outgrew the fortifications. The walls were expanded and eight city gates were built, three of which still stand today. The city was further strengthened in the early 1600s, but by the 18th century, the walls were seen as useless and destroyed. The main sights of Munich remain in a centralized area that was once confined by those city walls. Historic churches, squares and lanes, beautiful buildings and beer gardens are all within the city center. Throughout history, both fire and war destroyed many of Munich’s buildings so that today there is a mix of style and more than a few replicas. A Layover in Munich: 4-6 Hour Self-Guided Walking Tour Karlsplatz (Karl’s Square) Karlsplatz, a square that emerged with the city walls were torn down and named for the man who ordered the destruction, is on the western edge of the city center. On the east end of the square is Karlstor Gate, which was used as an entrance into the fortified city until the 18th century. Walk through the arched Karlstor Gate onto the pedestrian promenade, Neuhauserstrasse, to… Burgersaalkirche (Citizen’s Hall Church) The pink façade of Burgersaalkirche is hard to miss and resembles a government building more than a church.

As capital of Bavaria you’ll find beautiful countryside on tap just minutes out of the city and the alpine foothills not much further on. Back in the city, there are literally dozens “Dozens of of architectural jaw-droppers such as the Frauenkirche and Neues Rathaus, a long list of world class museums and art architectural jaw- galleries, along with many theatres and music venues showing droppers, world different plays and performances. For History tours, use Munich as a base and visits to Dachau class museums and concentration Camp and Nuremburg are within easy access, and on a slightly lighter note a trip to Neuschwanstein Castle art galleries” is a little further, probably 2-3 hours by coach, but well worth it for the stories of the King Ludwig II, his megalomania and to see probably the most photographed castle on the planet. All visits are covered by our externally verified Safety Management System and are pre-paid when applicable. Prices and opening times are accurate as of May 2018 and are subject to change and availability. Booking fees may apply to services provided by Voyager School Travel when paid on site.

  • Munich Retail Guide
MUNICH Cushman & Wakefield Global Cities Retail Guide Cushman & Wakefield | Munich | 2019 0 Munich is one of the retail hot spots in Germany which is unsurprising considering the affluent clientele in Munich and its surroundings. The purchasing power of Munich and regions such as Starnberger See are unmatched in Germany. Accordingly, Munich is in the focus of national and international retailers alike. The city is often the first choice of international retailers when it comes to expanding into the German retail market. Good examples of such an approach are Swedish retailer H&M in regard of the new format Arket or Canadian retailer Lululemon who both opened their first German stores in the Bavarian capital. Munich’s high street retailing is very much focused on the city’s CBD. In the vicinity of the world famous Frauenkirche and Viktualienmarkt shoppers can find everything from mass consumption to luxury goods. The extremely attractive Munich market draws in all market players. Despite high prices, spaces and business premises in the traditional prime locations of Munich are in high demand among tenants, investors and developers alike. Besides the soft location-related factors, this is especially due to the following reasons. Firstly, the sustainably outstanding socio-economic parameters combined with the large catchment area of more than 3 million inhabitants with a very high purchasing power (130,0 in comparison to the national average of 100,0). MUNICH Secondly, the population growth is far above the national average: the population of Munich is predicted to exceed 1.6 million as early as 2030. OVERVIEW Furthermore, Munich is an absolute hot spot for tourism: 17.1 million overnight stays with a particularly high amount of foreign visitors (nearly 50%) strengthen the location further.
