Sights to Visit Zanduri House Lechkhumi Itinerary Day 1: KUTAISI –GVIRISHI-LAILASHI-TSAGERI- SAIRME PILLARS-KULBAKI The guide will meet you at Kutaisi hotel. As the tour is private, we start upon your convenience. Grab lunch boxes and travel from Kutaisi to Gvirishi through the villages of the RiOni Gorge. The Lechkhum region is famous for the cultivation of wheat. The name of the village and the waterfall Gvirishi are related to the endemic wheat species. Visit Zanduri house. This ethno-village is presented in a small space that includes a wine cellar, a barn, and a lovely family. Walk in a beautiful apple garden, listen to the host’s story about wheat and wine producing traditions, taste natural apple juice, honey and bio wine from this beautiful garden and continue the trip to Gvirishi waterfall. Gvirishi Waterfall is located on a rocky mountain massif, 4 kilometers away from the village. Observe 25 meters height cascade from the glass panoramic platform. Continue the way to another the village, Lailashi. There is 19th-century synagogue in the village. One of the most popular attractions here is a small outdoor pool that overlooks Lajanuri Dam and creates unique landscape for photography lovers. The pool water is cold and worth visiting, especially in hot weather. Nearby the pool, we suggest to make an outdoor lunch. After lunch, drive to the verge of Lechkhumi and Racha regions, Sairme Pillars. Start 2.5 km walk to the pillars (5 km double-way up & downhill). We might find and collect some mushrooms on a path. Next stop is Tsageri, the administrative center of Lechkhumi region. Visit a small park and market, where we can buy locally produced traditional salt: the mix of spices and a local flavor, which gives a dish a special taste. At the end of the day arrive to the Green Lake, Kulbaki village and visit family trout farm. The word Lechkhumi means fishing place. Let’s catch a fish on spot and enjoy delicious mushrooms picked up in Sairme forest for dinner. Dinner and overnight at the family hotel in Kulbak. Day 2: KULBAKI-KHVAMLI MOUNTAIN-OKURESHI- TSKALTUBO-KUTAISI Breakfast at the hotel. Check out until 12:00. Transfer to the Airport for departure. We wish you to be your host again in Georgia. Breakfast at the Kulbaki. Morning hike around Kulbak Lake, walking in the small forest-park is highly recommended. Again, grab meal packages and drive approximately 1 hour to the mystical Khvamli rocks. The 150-300 meters high and 10 kilometers wide rocky massif is located at an altitude of 2002 meters. The road ends near St. George's church. The walking path takes about 3 hours and the ascents are steep, but rewording. The breathtaking panoramic views and fresh air of the alpine zone helps you to cover the distance in a pleasant mood. St. George's Cathedral dates back to the 12th century and belongs to a hall church architecture. Liturgies are held only on holidays. Continue the way to the main destination, the peak of Mayak, which is considered as the highest point of the Khvamli rock massif - 2002 m above sea level. If the weather is fine, we might catch a glimpse of the Black Sea. Light outdoor lunch break is recommended here. It takes about one hour to reach Okureshi village from Khvamli rock. There are small villages splattered at the foothills of the rock: Okureshi, Tvishi, Usakhelo. Unique minerals and rare grapes are grown on this land. Usakhelouri is the most expensive wine, which is produced in limited addition, grows this micro-zone only. Let’s visit a family, that makes this unique wine! Local host will serve tasting of two type of wines: Tsolikauri and Usakhelouri, and we can enjoy delicious Lechkhumian dishes prepared by the hostess. In this warm family environment, we recall the beautiful paths we walked on a tour. On this warm note continue back to Kutaisi hotel. Janelidze Institute of Geology, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Tbilisi, Georgia (Presented by Academy Member David Lordkipanidze) ABSTRACT. The present paper is an introduction to our new archaeometallurgical research project and gives a brief overview and context to the recent results of exploratory fieldwork and some excavation conducted in the Lechkhumi region of mountainous Colchis (in particular the Tsageri Municipally of this part of West Georgia,) and their place in an already established archaeological context. Lechkhumi is one of the historic provinces of West Georgia and because of archaeological metalwork finds here forms a significant part of the known Colchian bronze culture and is now considered to be an important centre of prehistoric copper and bronze metallurgy. However, Lechkhumi has been archaeologically perhaps the least studied region in Georgia so far. Current interdisciplinary investigations of the late Bronze Age copper sites of Lechkhumi region is an attempt to establish and assess the significance of the region and its place in the contemporary metallurgical production and culture of this part of ancient Colchis. The results of recent archaeometallurgical investigations conducted in mountainous Colchis and in particular in Lechkhumi are introduced in the paper. Thirteen unknown archaeometallurgical sites are defined in the study area. Fragments of metallurgical production: metallurgical furnace, tuyeres and abundant slags have been obtained as a result of archaeological excavations conducted since 2016 on the site Dogurashi-I on the left bank of the river Tskhenistskali.

  • GEORGIA Second Edition March 2010
WHO DOES WHAT WHERE IN DISASTER RISK REDUCTION IN GEORGIA Second edition March 2010 Georgian National Committee of Disaster Risk Reduction & Environment Sustainable Development FOREWORD Georgia is a highly disaster-prone country, which frequently experiences natural hazards (e.g. earthquakes, floods, landslides, mudflows, avalanches, and drought) as well as man-made emergencies (e.g. industrial accidents and traffic accidents). Compounding factors such as demographic change, unplanned urbanization, poorly maintained infrastructure, lax enforcement of safety standards, socio-economic inequities, epidemics, environmental degradation and climate variability amplify the frequency and intensity of disasters and call for a proactive and multi-hazard approach. Disaster risk reduction is a cross-cutting and complex development issue. It requires political and legal commitment, public understanding, scientific knowledge, careful development planning, responsible enforcement of policies and legislation, people-centred early warning systems, and effective disaster preparedness and response mechanisms. Close collaboration of policy-makers, scientists, urban planners, engineers, architects, development workers and civil society representatives is a precondition for adopting a comprehensive approach and inventing adequate solutions. Multi-stakeholder and inter-agency platforms can help provide and mobilize knowledge, skills and resources required for mainstreaming disaster risk reduction into development policies, for coordination of planning and programmes,
