III IV Sammendrag Denne oppgaven tar for seg det nettdistribuerte videoprosjektet Take-Away Shows, og dets forbindelser til indiesjangeren. Take-Away Shows er et pågående prosjekt der band og artister inviteres til å framføre musikken sin akustisk og ―live‖ foran kamera, i andre settinger enn konsertscenen. Indie undersøkes langs debatter om uavhengighet, autentisitet, og DIY(―do-it- yourself‖)-kultur, samt gjennom å diskutere indie som kontemporær musikksjanger med et omliggende kulturelt verdisett. Take-Away Shows beskrives, kontekstualiseres og teoretiseres gjennom diskusjoner omkring den særskilte produksjonen og distribusjonen som forfektes, aktørenes agenda, videoenes audiovisuelle estetikk, og paralleller til andre audiovisuelle former. Et utvalg videoer nærleses og fortolkes for å eksemplifisere innholdsmessige og estetiske poenger. Gjennom en interdisiplinær tilnærming søker oppgaven å argumentere for at fenomenet Take-Away Shows‘ kulturelle og produksjonsmessige forbindelser til en kontemporær indiesjanger manifesteres på forskjellige vis, og at videoprosjektet er med på å revitalisere og reforhandle innholdet i indiesjangeren.     Munt New directions in music video Macquarie University Alex Munt New Directions in Music Video: Vincent Moon and the ‘ascetic aesthetic’ Abstract: This article takes the form of a case study on the work of French filmmaker and music video director Vincent Moon, and his ‘Takeaway Shows’ at the video podcast site La Blogothèque. This discussion examines the state, and status, of music video as a dynamic mode of convergent screen media today. It is argued that the recent shift of music video online represents a revival of music video—its form and aesthetics— together with a rejuvenation of music video scholarship. The emergence of the ‘ascetic aesthetic’ is offered as a new paradigm for music video far removed from that of the postmodern MTV model. In this context, new music video production intersects with notions of immediacy, authenticity and globalised film practice. Here, convergent music video is enabled by the network of Web 2.0 and facilitated by the trend towards amateur content, participatory media and Creative Commons licensing. The pedagogical implications of teaching new music video within screen media arts curricula is highlighted as a trajectory of this research. Biographical note: Alex Munt is a filmmaker and screen theorist. He is a Lecturer in the Department of Media, Music, Communication and Cultural Studies at Macquarie University. He recently completed a PhD on ‘Microbudget Digital Cinema’ and has published on topics that include digital filmmaking, screenwriting, music video, fashion and design media in Australian and UK media, journals and magazines. On The Waterfall, My Morning Jacket sounded determined to remind fans of the monolithic jams they made their name with in the ’00s. The sequel, however, carries no such pretenses. Even the hardest rocking track, “Wasted,” which settles on a surly guitar groove accented with punchy horns, feels more like an invitation to explore the darkest corners of innerspace than a call to party. In that way, The Waterfall II feels (apologies for using a corny term) more honest. Much of the record is composed of bleary-eyed, pedal steel-laced ballads that dwell ruefully on loss and aspire gorgeously to a state of healing, creating an all-too-relatable vibe of heartsick restlessness driven by a desperate desire to believe that tomorrow will somehow be better.
