Ultraviolence is Lana Del Rey’s third studio album. After stating that she had no plans of releasing a follow up album to Born to Die, Del Rey viewed Ultraviolence as snippets of her past as opposed to a journey. Del Rey commented that the album is “…a little more stripped down, but still cinematic and dark. I’ve been working on it really slowly, but I love everything I’ve done.” The album features singles “Ultraviolence”, “Shades of Cool”, “West Coast”, and “Brooklyn Baby”. Mike’s reason for this design is so that the stick has a slightly added front weight for a solid, consistent “throw” and transient sound. With the extra length, you can adjust how much front weight you’re implementing by slightly moving your fulcrum .580" point up or down on the stick. Band of the North Low
Low is Steve Garrington, ➣ Alan Sparhawk, and Mimi Parker BAND OF THE NORTH Low “Everything always confusion, things I could never explain,” sings Alan Sparhawk on Low’s new album Ones and Sixes, out in September on Sub Pop Records. It’s a fitting sentiment from a band that makes difficult, achingly beautiful pocket symphonies about flailing in the dark and never quite finding your way. Formed in Duluth in 1993, Low is the shared vision of Sparhawk and his wife, Mimi Parker (original member John Nichols was long ago replaced by a revolving door of bassists). Critics initially labeled the trio “slowcore” for the minor-key leanings and dripping-sap tempos of early works I Could Live in Hope and Long Division. But to say Low plays slow and sad is like describing sushi as raw fish. The more closely you lis- ten—and do listen closely, as Low is the state champ of headphone records—the more elusive its alchemy becomes. You could say Parker is a spare and skillful drummer. Or that Sparhawk’s guitar playing seesaws between distortive roars and melodies so pure they’ll bruise your heart. You might also note that despite its many creative pivots, Low remains anchored by Sparhawk and Parker’s intimate harmonies, which reveal more about love and modern life in song than a Jonathan Franzen novel could ever hope to. Discuss Low’s tendency to blend but never bend to influences as varied as rock, folk, gospel, and electronic music. Argue that it’s the only prestige band from Minnesota that’s underrated at home and properly rated everywhere else (its fans include B Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, who invited the E S group on tour in 2003, and Robert Plant, T who once recorded a cover of Low’s “Silver L Rider”). -
Indie Mixtape 20 Q&A Is with Del Paxton, Who Just Wish That People Would Think Their Band Was from the '90S
:: View email as a web page :: On Friday, My Morning Jacket finally released The Waterfall II, an album recorded in the mid-2010s. On The Waterfall, My Morning Jacket sounded determined to remind fans of the monolithic jams they made their name with in the ’00s. The sequel, however, carries no such pretenses. Even the hardest rocking track, “Wasted,” which settles on a surly guitar groove accented with punchy horns, feels more like an invitation to explore the darkest corners of innerspace than a call to party. In that way, The Waterfall II feels (apologies for using a corny term) more honest. Much of the record is composed of bleary-eyed, pedal steel-laced ballads that dwell ruefully on loss and aspire gorgeously to a state of healing, creating an all-too-relatable vibe of heartsick restlessness driven by a desperate desire to believe that tomorrow will somehow be better. So we guess it really is relevant to our endless now after all. Read Uproxx’s review here. -- Steven Hyden, Uproxx Cultural Critic and author of This Isn't Happening: Radiohead's "Kid A" And The Beginning Of The 21st Century PS: Was this email forwarded to you? Join the band here. In case you missed it... Our YouTube channel is still growing, adding new official music videos every week from My Bloody Valentine, The Replacements, Tori Amos, and more. The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame has cancelled this year's induction ceremony, and replaced it with a pre-taped ceremony that will broadcast on HBO. More European festivals have been announced for 2021, with Portugal's NOS Alive and Spain's Mad Cool Festival sharing their lineups for next year's installment. -

Destroyer Ken
DESTROYER KEN CATALOG #: DOC140 ABOUT THE ALBUM RELEASE DATE : OCTOBER 20, 2017 FORMAT: CD/LP/DELUXE LP/DIGITAL Of his 12th studio album and its enigmatic title, Destroyer’s Dan Bejar offers the following: CD BOX LOT: 30 Sometime last year, I discovered that the original name for “The Wild Ones” (one of the great LP BOX LOT: 20 English-language ballads of the last 100 years or so) was “Ken.” I had an epiphany, I was physically DLX LP BOX LOT: 20 struck by this information. In an attempt to hold on to this feeling, I decided to lift the original title GENRE: ALTERNATIVE of that song and use it for my own purposes. It’s unclear to me what that purpose is, or what the connection is. I was not thinking about Suede when making this record. I was thinking about the TERRITORY RESTRICTIONS: NOT AVAILABLE IN last few years of the Thatcher era. Those were the years when music first really came at me like a NORTH AMERICA; EXCLUSIVE TO HOSTESS IN sickness, I had it bad. Maybe “The Wild Ones” speaks to that feeling, probably why Suede made no JAPAN sense in America. I think “ken” also means “to know.” VINYL NOT RETURNABLE ken was produced by Josh Wells of Black Mountain, who has been the drummer in Destroyer since 2012. The album was recorded in its entirety in the jam space/studio space that the group calls The Balloon Factory. However, unlike Poison Season , ken was not recorded as a “band” record, though everyone in the band does make an appearance. -
A “Live Documentary” Collaboration by Sam Green & Yo La Tengo
R. BUCK- MINSTER FULLER A “live documentary” collaboration by Sam Green & Yo La Tengo CONTACT: [email protected] www.buckminsterfullerfilm.com CAN ONE PERSON CHANGE THE WORLD? END POVERTY? END WAR? Buckminster Fuller, twentieth-century futurist, architect, engi- neer, and inventor—he called himself a “comprehensive an- ticipatory design scientist”—experimented tirelessly for fifty years to find out just what a single person can do on behalf of humanity. R. BUCKMINSTER FULLER The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller is a new hour-long “live documentary” from Academy Award–nominated filmmaker Sam Green exploring Fuller’s utopian vision of radical social change through a design revolution. Originally commissioned by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art’s Design and Ar- chitecture Department, the project is a collaboration between Green and the legendary indie band Yo La Tengo. At each screening, Green narrates the film in person and cues imag- es while Yo La Tengo performs their original score. The film’s unique form draws inspiration equally from old travelogues, the Benshi tradition, and TEDtalks. 2 Buckminster Fuller was a grandiose and generous thinker, teeming with ideas. He once put together a lecture series called “Everything I Know”—it was forty-two hours long. No notes. He was an early proponent of conservation and environmen- tal stewardship as social justice; Fuller was interested in “doing more with less,” so that everybody could have enough. He redesigned human structures from cars and bathrooms all the way up to entire cities, inspiring figures as diverse as the industrialist Henry Kaiser, John Cage, and Stewart Brand. -
