22 Advertorial IPIA: making the connection

The IPIA decided to do something a little different with its ‘Meet the Trade Buyer’ event this year, and took the decision to take space at The Print Show at the NEC and run the event on stand.

he IPIA is all about connecting buyers and suppliers and creating business opportunities for members, bringing them together with Tnetworking events, pre-arranged appointments and personal introductions. The venue for its latest Meet the Trade Buyer event on 14 October was The Print Show at the NEC in Birmingham. Instead of rotating the suppliers this year, it was the buyers that moved about. ‘As we had suppliers exhibiting over all three days of the show we decided to schedule appointments on their stands as well as in the networking area,’ explained Marian Stefani, IPIA chief executive. ‘It worked really well and there were unscheduled meetings taking place, as well as the confirmed appointments, as visitors to the show stopped to find out what the crowd on our stand was doing there. ‘Our association has all the benefits that you would expect, but the real ROI for members is the fact that we actively promote them. If you want to find a reliable trade supplier who will support your business, then the IPIA is the organisation to help you.’ The IPIA also launched its new training programme at the show which Ms Stefani explained is all about business growth. ‘We wanted to focus on the skills we feel are weak in the print industry: sales, marketing, business planning and strategy; these are all areas we want to train specifically for print.’ Day courses will be available in a number of regional venues to try and make the training as accessible as possible, and all can be deliv- ered onsite for those businesses who want a more intense session. n www.ipia.org.ok [email protected]

Wide format event 49 Doors wide open

There was a touch of Bavaria in Berkshire in October, as wide format dealer GPT opened its doors for Printoberfest, displaying a range of HP and Mimaki printing equipment alongside finishing and media.

t may have been the promise of German sausages and beer on the menu that drew printers to Graphic Printing Technologies’ Printoberfest event early in October, but more than likely it was the chance to see Ithe only demonstrating HP Scitex FB550 in the south of England, alongside a wide range of flatbed and roll-to-roll kit from Mimaki. The two day event was running for the sec- ond time at GPT’s office and showroom in Reading, and general manager Shaun Thompson was sufficiently impressed by the turnout to envisage a third Printoberfest in 2016. He told Digital Printer: ‘This is an event; it’s not an open day. It’s Printoberfest and I think it has become very successful. We have taken substantial orders at the event, which is great. We have showcased the HP Scitex FB550 and the event has enabled us for the first time to show the full range of HP Latex and UV printers, and the full range of Mimaki solvent printers that are here too.
