Sonnert and co-researchers described, Science Letter, p40, Tuesday, January 5, 2010 TEXT: "In this paper we report on testing the 'rolen model' and 'opportunity-structure' hypotheses about the parents whom scientists mentioned as career influencers. According to the role-model hypothesis, the gender match between scientist and influencer is paramount (for example, women scientists would disproportionately often mention their mothers as career influencers)," scientists writing in the journal Social Studies of Science report (see also ). "According to the opportunity-structure hypothesis, the parent's educational level predicts his/her probability of being mentioned as a career influencer (that ism parents with higher educational levels would be more likely to be named). The examination of a sample of American scientists who had received prestigious postdoctoral fellowships resulted in rejecting the role-model hypothesis and corroborating the opportunity-structure hypothesis.

The controversial book is also "the first instance of a novel in which the main character undergoes a clinical sex-change". Myra Breckinridge was dismissed by some of the era's more conservative critics as pornographic at the time of its first publication in February ; nevertheless, the novel immediately became a worldwide bestseller and has since come to be considered a classic in some circles. The novel was adapted into a film of the same namewhich was universally panned. An attractive young woman, Myra Breckinridge is a film buff with a special interest in the Golden Age of Hollywood—in particular the s—and the writings of film critic Parker Tyler. Copyright Law's Broken Rear Window: An Appraisal of Damage and Estimate of Repair Daniel A. Saunderst Few Supreme Court cases have engendered as much concern and debate within the entertainmentindustry as Stewart v. Abend. That deci- sion determined the relative rights of holders of copyrights in derivative motion pictures and in the source materialon which those films are based. Industry insiders have predicted that the decision will significantly change the way business is conducted and may result in temporary or permanent withdrawal of countless classic motion pictures from distribution. This Comment begins by arguing that the legal foundations of the Stewart opinion are questionable in light of the relevant copyright statutes and precedents. It then argues the failure of the decisionfrom a policy perspec- tive and contends that the decision is inconsistent both with the goals of copyrightprotection as setforth in the Constitution and with the realitiesof motion picture production. Having presented the case for congressional intervention, the Comment proposes remedial legislation and evaluates arguments that the legislation would violate the Due Process and Takings Clauses of the Fifth Amendment. The Comment concludes that the pro- posed legislation is both constitutionaland necessary to protect the interests of motion picture studios and the American viewing public.
