Deadline: August 1 The Competitive Undergraduate Awards (bursaries and scholarships) on-line application is available through the myUofC portal. The portal is also accessible from the U of C home page or the Student Awards and Financial Aid website: www.ucalgary.ca/awards/ By submitting the Undergradu- ate Awards on-line application, students will be considered for all awards listed in this section with the exception of those stating “No application required.” Where no application is required, nomination is made automatically by the faculty without need for application. Unless otherwise stated, on-line applications for Undergraduate Awards must be submitted on or before the deadline date of August 1. Unless otherwise stated, the following policies are in effect with regard to University administered awards: In order to qualify: · Students must have completed their most recent consecutive Fall and Winter Sessions at the University of Calgary. An exception is made for students enrolled in Co-operative Education/Internship programs or Official Exchange Programs involving only one semester of study. To qualify, courses in the Official Exchange Program must be eligible for transfer credit to be considered. · Students entering or continuing in the Bachelor of Education (Master of Teaching Program) are eligible to apply for Undergraduate Awards. Students entering the program are eligible for awards based on their admission average; financial need may also be considered for some awards. Students continuing in the program are eligible for awards based on financial need. · Students entering 5th year of a combined degree program are eligible to apply for Undergraduate Awards and will be considered for awards indicating students entering “Any” year or final year. · Students continuing in the Bachelor of Health Sciences program in the Faculty of Medicine are eligible to apply for Undergraduate Awards. · Students in the Faculty of Law or the Faculty of Medicine (excluding the Bachelor of Health Sciences program) should refer to the appropriate sections of the calendar for awards specific to students in those faculties. · Students must normally have completed their most recent Fall and Winter Sessions at the U of C with a minimum of four full courses (eight half courses). · Internship students may be considered for Undergraduate Nominated Awards in the Spring prior to the commencement of their internship and if successful, funds are normally held until their return to an academic session. Internship students may apply for Undergraduate Competitive Awards by the August 1 deadline and prior to the start of an academic session. · In order to be considered for scholarships, students must normally present a minimum GPA of 3.20 and to be considered for bursaries, students must normally present a minimum GPA of 2.60. · Monetary awards, except certain cash prizes, are normally contingent upon the student proceeding with his or her university program in the next Fall and Winter Sessions. Unless otherwise stated in the conditions, awards are payable only when the student is in actual full-time attendance at the University of Calgary; recipients must maintain full-time status. Exceptions are made for students participating in Official Exchange and Term Abroad Programs where tuition is paid to the University of Calgary. In order to support international study experience, students attending an inter- national post-secondary institution as a full-time Visiting Student on a Letter of Permission and paying tuition to that institution, will be considered on a case-by-case basis. · The payment of tuition and fees is the first charge against scholarships and bursaries. If the value of an award is stated as “tuition and fees” it is understood not to include differential fees. · Supplemental, deferred and special deferred examinations or term work may affect eligibility for awards. · In support of the Academic Plan, awards are distributed among the most deserving students and in keeping with the terms of reference for awards. No student may normally receive total award funds of more than the value equivalent to the average cost of attendance as calculated by the Student Awards and Financial Aid office unless the value of the award is higher. · If a student is granted an award, the University of Calgary reserves the right to release pertinent information to award donors, high schools, provincial funding bodies, U of C faculty and administrative offices and public news agents. Specific information may be used for U of C promotional purposes. The University assumes liability for the payment of scholarships, bursaries, prizes and other awards only to the extent that gifts from donors, or returns from particular investments for these purposes will permit. As this information is published a considerable time before the opening of the session, the University reserves the right to make whatever changes circumstances may require, including cancellation or addition of particular awards.
