Château La Conseillante 2014 FALL WINE SALE alvert oodley has been a big year at CW. First and foremost, we would like to say congratulations to the man that put 2014 the “Calvert” in Calvert Woodley, Aaron Bernstein, on his recent, and well-deserved, retirement. “Mr. B” started at Calvert Liquors on Wisconsin Avenue in the early 1960s, and became co-owner of Calvert Woodley in 1982 when two former competitors merged and moved to our present location on Connecticut Avenue. Specializing, among other things, in the liquor side of the business as well as the handling of personnel, he was a perfect complement to Woodley Wine & Liquor’s Ed Sands. They formed a great partnership that lasted an impressive 32 years. Mr. B’s drive and dedication helped take us to new heights, and he will be missed. He passed on his lifetime of knowledge and experience to son David, who has now been at CW for more than 20 years, so we know we’re in good hands. A loyal family man, we’re sure he’ll enjoy spending more time with his wife, kids, grandkids, and his many friends, and maybe for once, not having to do much of anything at all! We wish him nothing but the best in this exciting new chapter of his life. s is the case each year, finishing Athis catalog on time always comes down to the wire. ACTA UNIVERSITATIS AGRICULTURAE ET SILVICULTURAE MENDELIANAE BRUNENSIS Volume LX 43 Number 2, 2012 STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT OF VARIETAL VINEYARDS IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC J. Sedlo, P. Tomšík Received: November 30, 2011 Abstract SEDLO, J., TOMŠÍK, P.: Strategic development of varietal vineyards in the Czech Republic. Acta univ. agric. et silvic. Mendel. Brun., 2012, LX, No. 2, pp. 325–334 The paper describes strategic changes in the structure of grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) varieties grown in the Czech Republic. In 2004–2005, (i.e. a er the admission of the Czech Republic into the EU) expenditures associated with restructuralisation and transformation of vineyards amounted for CZK 25,423 thous. The authors examine the development taking place in this domain within the last 50 years (i.e. from 1960 to 2010) and pay detailed attention to the period of 1989 to 2010. The paper analyses reasons of these changes and tries to describe the future development expected a er 2010. The current production potential of the Czech Republic are 19,633.45 hectares of vineyards. For the time being, there are in average 1.07 wine growers per hectare of vineyards. As compared with 1960, the acreage of vineyards has doubled up and the number of the most frequent varieties has also increased. Within the period of 1989–1990, four varieties (i.e. Müller Thurgau, Green Veltliner, Italian Riesling and Sankt Laurent) occupied more than 60 % of the total vineyards area in the Czech Republic, whereas at present there are altogether 8 varieties (Müller Thurgau, Green Veltliner, Italian Riesling, Rhein Riesling, Sauvignon, Sankt Laurent, Blaufrankish, and Zweigeltrebe) at the nearly the same acreage.

A further goal of the project was to characterized toxinogenic potential of chosen strains of species Fusarium. 50 samples of grapes, harvested in years 2011, 2012 and 2013 from various wine-growing regions were analyzed in this study. For the isolation of species the of direct plating method was used: a) surface-sterilized berries (using 1% freshly pre-pared chlorine) b) berries and c) damaged berries on DRBC (Dichloran Rose Bengal Chloramphenicol agar). For each analysis were used 50 berries (or all damaged berries from sample). The cultivation was carried at 25 ±1°C, for 5 to 7 days in dark. After incubation, the colonies of Botrytis, Fusarium and Rhizopus were transferred to identification media and after incubation strains were identified to species level. Thirteen species of fusaria (F. acuminatum, F. avenaceum, F. culmorum, F. equiseti, F. graminearum, F. oxysporum, F. proliferatum, F. semitectum, F. solani, F. sporotrichioides, F. subglutinans F. tricinctum and F. verticilioides) were identified. Frequency of fusaria isolation was 92 %.
