Today we travel to the world's largest country and meet the Russian rising star: Daniil Kvyat. 00:17 Original Sound: Daniil Kvyat, Red Bull Racing, English "It gives me some extra boost so it's very cool." >>00:20 00:21 Plus: the extreme opposite of Kvyat - Vitaly Petrov the failed F1 star. 00:26 But first, somc curious facts about Glasnost and Perestroika. >>00:33 Country & people 00:02 Russia. Geographically a big shot. 11 time and 4 climate zones. 00:10 That makes little Mother Russia bigger than Pluto, so "cheeriovsky Pluto"! But Russia has more than just size. 00:20 Original Sound: Daniil Kvyat, Red Bull Racing, English “The wide and large Russian soul.” >>00:23 00:24 Deep and soulful, Russia gives the world gifted artists: Gogol, Tolstoy, Tchaikovsky, plus nimble ballet dancers who don't really seem to fit into the Russian male image, unlike the robustly vigorous president, who's not afraid to shaft his opponents. And then, of course, there's also what's needed to purify the soul: 00:50 Original sound: Daniil Kvyat, Red Bull Racing, English “…Wodka.” >>00:52 00:53 Translated: dear little water! No wonder, until 2013 beer was not an alcoholic drink in Russia. Vodka on the other hand produces 10% of state income... and gives you the strength of a bear! Not every Russian thus immediately looks like one, but going shirtless somehow always seems OK. Talking of bears, Russian brownskins often like the smell of kerosene. On out-of- the-way airfields they get high sniffing at kerosene barrels. 01:21 Once intoxicated, it's party time! RTV GmbH Tel.: +49 70 31 64 90-50 USt.-ID-Nr. / VAT-ID: DE164706327 Otto-Lilienthal-Str. 24 Fax : +49 70 31 64 90-66 Amtsgericht Stuttgart HRB 243623 71034 Böblingen · Germany eMail: [email protected] GF / Managing Partner: Oliver Bauss, Oliver Koblenzer Seite 3 von 32 32 01:34 Primarily because Russia is the promised land for male lonely hearts: 11 million more women live there than men! 01:43 Original Sound: Daniel Ricciardo, Red Bull Racing, English “How do I say “Hey”, like if I see a nice girl, like “Hey good looking, you wanna go to a date?” Original sound: Daniil Kvyat, Red Bull Racing, Russian "Privet. Sdras vide devushka." Original Sound: Daniil Kvyat, Red Bull Racing, Russian "Privet. Sdras vide devushka." Original sound: Daniel Ricciardo, Red Bull Racing, Russian “Stras wouldje derviska” Original Sound: Daniel Ricciardo, Red Bull Racing, English “Stras wouldje derviska” Original Sound: Daniel Ricciardo, Red Bull Racing, English “And after Dinner, you know, when you’re starting to make the move…” Original Sound: Daniil Kvyat, Red Bull Racing, Russian “Then you say: “Nu kag, ban dragules” Original Sound: Daniel Ricciardo, Red Bull Racing, English “Nu kag, ban dragules – my accent’s good yeah? Nu kag, ban dragules” 02:14 All clear? Then nothing can now go wrong! It's off to Sochi on the lovely Black Sea coast! Ends: 02:23 min 00:00 Now it's getting personal, on the move with Daniil Kvyat! >>00:05 Daniil Kvyat 00:06 Anyone who can get a Russian Lada to shift, can undoubtedly also master Formula 1. Daniil Kvyat – the Russian child prodigy with the somewhat quirky upper teeth is definitely a talent. He's maybe not got quite what it takes to be a poster boy, but, as we know, success makes you sexy too. RTV GmbH Tel.: +49 70 31 64 90-50 USt.-ID-Nr. / VAT-ID: DE164706327 Otto-Lilienthal-Str. 24 Fax : +49 70 31 64 90-66 Amtsgericht Stuttgart HRB 243623 71034 Böblingen · Germany eMail: [email protected] GF / Managing Partner: Oliver Bauss, Oliver Koblenzer Seite 4 von 32 32 00:28 Original sound: Daniil Kvyat, Red Bull Racing, English „It means a lot, it is very special to me to feel the support from Russian fans. It is really encouraging, it gives me some extra boost, so it is very cool. “ >>00:43 00:44 The lad's had a rapid ascent. After just a year at Toro Rosso, he took over at Red Bull from their most successful driver ever: Sebastian Vettel. His fairytale career would definitely suit the young Russian too. 01:02 Original sound: Daniil Kvyat, Red Bull Racing, English „He was at the right time in the right place, but it all looks like my path might be a bit more challenging. However, I think this even gives me some extra motivation. “ >>01:17 01:18 The form curve is constantly on the up. In the overall rankings at the end of 2015, Kvyat came seventh. That even put him ahead of highly rated team-mate Daniel Ricciardo. A second place in Hungary made Dani's capabilities abundantly clear. 01:35 Original sound: Christian Horner, Team Principal, Red Bull Racing, English „Daniil Kvyat or Dani Kvyat as we are refering to him. He is an out-standing talent, he is a prospect that has come through GP3, winning that championship and then graduating through Toro Rosso. He ‘s campaign again last year was fantastic, the speed, commitment and determination that he demonstrated were all the qualities that we were looking for. “ >>01:58 01:59 His star's set to shine, though he's still lacking a little gloss. Ice hockey would have been the alternative. Daniil and ice, a typically Russian liaison, which however would almost certainly never have brought the same success. 02:18 Original sound: Daniil Kvyat, Red Bull Racing, English „I have been trying ice-hockey since I was a child, but once I tried go-kart it took all my passion straight away, that is where I understood this is what I want to do for the rest of my life, once you have found your passion you just follow your heart. “ >>02:36 02:37 The pressure will grow. He needs to build on last season's good form. Staying at the top is harder than getting there. He now has 1 or 2 seasons that can be key to his ongoing career. RTV GmbH Tel.: +49 70 31 64 90-50 USt.-ID-Nr. / VAT-ID: DE164706327 Otto-Lilienthal-Str. 24 Fax : +49 70 31 64 90-66 Amtsgericht Stuttgart HRB 243623 71034 Böblingen · Germany eMail: [email protected] GF / Managing Partner: Oliver Bauss, Oliver Koblenzer Seite 5 von 32 32 02:55 Original sound: Daniil Kvyat, Red Bull Racing, English „Theoretically yes, there is more pressure but on the other side I don ‘t care about it so much, just trying to once again focus on the right things, just thinking about the results and the work on track and not this sort of things. That is something up to the other people to think about it, not to me. “ >> 03:11 03:12 Kvyat is a nice, down-to-earth guy. You wish him well. Should it not work out, there are 2 things nobody can ever take from him. He was the fifth Russian to make it into Formula 1 and, of course, his driving licence - he can keep that even without an F1 drive. Ends: 03:32 min 00:00 All the talk's about the hybrid, but without perfect aerodynamics nothing works in Formula 1. >>00:05 Wind tunnel 00:02 (Read slowly) Formula One as it used to be: grease, wide tyres and lots of raw power! 00:11 The engines today: somewhat tamed. Thus all the more important, and now a science in themselves: wings, spoilers and aerodynamic chassis. Their job: to reduce air resistance and create downforce. 00:24 To that end the engineers constantly work away on new components or fine tune existing parts. Sauber driver Marcus Ericsson shows us what happens to promising ideas: 00:36 Original sound: Marcus Ericsson, Sauber F1 Team, English “The Ideas the engineers come up with, wind up here, in the rapid prototyping machines. They can produce anything in no time.” >>00:42 RTV GmbH Tel.: +49 70 31 64 90-50 USt.-ID-Nr. / VAT-ID: DE164706327 Otto-Lilienthal-Str. 24 Fax : +49 70 31 64 90-66 Amtsgericht Stuttgart HRB 243623 71034 Böblingen · Germany eMail: [email protected] GF / Managing Partner: Oliver Bauss, Oliver Koblenzer Seite 6 von 32 32 00:44 Original sound: Marcus Ericsson, Sauber F1 Team, English “The Prototype is made of raisin, not as expensive as carbon. The prototypes are integrated into the model, and here they are.” >>00:51 00:52 The new model component then goes off to the wind tunnel. A technical advantage for Sauber. 01:00 Original sound: Marcus Ericsson, Sauber F1 Team, English (from off) “It’s still the most modern one in Formula One and it cost 55 million dollars.” >>01:05 01:06 Willem Toet, Head of Aerodynamics, Sauber F1 Team 2011 – 2015, English “Here we are in the working section of the Wind tunnel with our model. It is 60 percent scale!“ >>01:13 01:15 Willem Toet, Head of Aerodynamics, Sauber F1 Team 2011 – 2015, English “In the wind tunnel we are able to do, if you like, a mini Grand Prix simulation.

  • F1 Advent Calendar 2012 (Day 15) – Ten for Twelve
F1 Advent Calendar 2012 (Day 15) – Ten for twelve Hello and welcome to the F1 Advent Calendar 2012. This is our mini series taking a look at the highs and lows of the season Just gone, the key moments that made it a pretty incredible year. Today we are moving towards the rear of the grid where an intense battle was playing out. This is Day Fifteen - Ten for twelve. The talk from Caterham ahead of the 2012 season was all about moving forward and away from the other new teams they started their time in Formula One with. Two tenth place season finishes in a row had seen them with a cash inJection, and the hope was for them to take a leap forward and start scoring points. The double retirement in Australia wasn’t exactly the start they were looking for, but a 13th place in Mon- aco for Kovalainen and a similar result in Valencia for Petrov meant the team were keeping a comfortable hold on their tenth place. Then came the Singapore Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton put in a pretty fabulous lap to secure pole position on the Saturday, whilst all eyes were on the Williams pair. Pastor Maldonado was proving his pace in the car by hauling the Williams up to second place on the grid, whilst Bruno Senna crashed out in second qualify- ing, finding his way towards one of those pesky walls. The Ferrari drivers were split, with Fernando Alonso up in fifth, and Felipe Massa in thirteenth. Lining up on the front row of the grid, after a minute of silence paying tribute to Sid Watkins, Hamilton pre- pared for the lights to go out and the race to begin.

  • F1 Advent Calendar 2012 (Day 2) – Melbourne Masterclass
F1 Advent Calendar 2012 (Day 2) – Melbourne masterclass Hello, thank you for Joining me for the second episode of the F1 Advent Calendar 2012. We’ve already be- gun our Journey through the key moments of the season Just gone, with a review of the early testing. Now it’s time for the racing to get going, so let’s get to it with Day Two - Melbourne masterclass. We know by now that Australia tends to deliver a chaotic and unpredictable race - one that doesn’t neces- sarily foreshadow how the season will play out, but kicks things off in style. The 2012 race did not let us down, starting with an intriguing qualifying session. The McLaren team were on form, with Lewis Hamilton pipping teammate Jenson Button to pole position. Behind them, a surprising Romain GrosJean showed yet more pace from Lotus. The Red Bull pair were fifth and sixth with Mark Webber ahead, whilst the Ferrari duo struggled considerably - both unable to get into the top ten. Sergio Pérez fell foul to an early gearbox penalty, dropping five places, whilst both HRT drivers failed to complete laps within the 107% time required. We’ve seen the FIA be lenient with the slower teams before, but as HRT hadn’t managed much running in the practice sessions, and were clearly not on the pace, they deemed them not ready to participate in the Grand Prix. It was a sunny evening in Melbourne when the drivers lined up on the grid for this first race. Jenson Button managed to scamper past Hamilton off the line, taking a very early lead and never looking back.
