It was founded in 1979 to promote the preservation of Ron Smith Atlanta's architecturally, historically and culturally significant buildings, neighborhoods and landscapes through education and advocacy. Ahlstrand February 11th Years of ??Throughout its operation the Atlanta Preservation Center (APC) has Service worked to make a richer environment in the City by advocating for Atlanta�s historic resources. We have sought to bring an awareness of the existence and value of a diverse range of treasures and to propose ways in which they can be made viable assets for use and purpose in the life of Edward L Cowan the City. 02-01-1973 48 Years In cooperation with the Atlanta Urban Design Commission; the Historic Preservation Division, Georgia Department of Natural Resources; Easements Tommy O. Morgan Atlanta; the Atlanta Regional Commission and many other organizations and individuals, the APC has helped to preserve and revitalize countless 02-01-1981 resources throughout Atlanta. Our interests have involved us in the local and national designation of Historic Districts such as Fairlie-Poplar, 40 Years Auburn Avenue and Grant Park and in the protection and redevelopment of individual buildings including Ivy Hall, the Castle, the Georgian Terrace, the Biltmore and the Glenn Hotel. We have put our efforts into concepts as comprehensive as the BeltLine and as specific as the restoration Thua G. Barlay of the Sidney Lanier Monument in Piedmont Park. 01-14-2010 11 Years The 1856 Lemuel Pratt Grant Mansion in the Grant Park Historic District was once described by City historian Franklin Garrett as the City�s "most Dorothy Bala historic building," but the L.P. Grant Mansion nearly lost the battle for survival until the APC restored it to purposeful use as our headquarters. 02-10-2011 10 Years Our website is a tool to learn about APC�s current advocacy projects including the Circle Wye Railroad Junction and proposed adjacent historic Wendy A. Bear district, Memorial Drive Corridor, Judge Wilson House and English Avenue School, our list of Atlanta�s Most Endangered Historic Places, as well as 01-12-2012 exciting preservation successes such as the Atlanta Daily World, Clermont Hotel and the Peters House/ Ivy Hall, along with efforts to expand the 9 Years State tax credits to stimulate preservation-based redevelopment. Our nine guided historical Walking Tours raise consciousness 8 Years and present the history of Atlanta to residents and visitors alike. These showcase the unique sense of place created by our historic resources. Our Kenneth Gaylord education programs introduce concepts of history, preservation, architecture and civics to students in grades kindergarten through 12. The annual 02-14-2013 Phoenix Flies Celebration is a capstone event which presents many entities that contribute to preservation and to the life of the City. The APC�s 8 Years website, internet outreach and newsletters provide information and insight throughout the year. We have about $900 leftover from raising money for first responders that we are Bryan Hilburn contributing to the program. If you wish to donate to this cause please send Kim a check marked for first responders and let myself or Marty 01-08-2019 know your are sending the donation. 2 Years The Chamber is also sponsoring a program to support our healthcare heroes. They are requesting that you donate snacks (premade individually wrapped) that will be placed in the hospital breakrooms. To minimize visits to the hospital you can drop the snacks off at the Chamber (936 Club Leaders Green Street) through the end of January between 9-4 on Monday - Thursday. The Georgia Laws of Life need volunteers to read essays for the competition. All they need to do is CLICK HERE to sign up to read.     Memorandum of Law in Support of Changes to Stone Mountain Park To: Whom It May Concern From: Stone Mountain Action Coalition Date: October 15, 2020 During public discourse regarding the legal entanglement between the Confederacy and Stone Mountain Park (the “Park”), some have argued that the Stone Mountain Memorial Association (“SMMA” or the “Board”) is powerless to make changes to the Park, claiming that the Board’s “hands are tied by the law.” To the contrary, the Board has discretion to make changes under current Georgia state law. Indeed, all boards created by law have discretion. Absent discretion, such entities would be powerless to take actions pursuant to their statutory mandates. Here, that discretion is front and center, listed in the code among the three primary purposes of the SMMA: (1) To preserve the natural areas situated within the Stone Mountain Park area; (2) To provide access to Stone Mountain for Georgia's citizens; and (3) To maintain an appropriate and suitable memorial for the Confederacy. See O.C.G.A. § 12-3-192.1 (emphasis added) (the complete “Stone Mountain Memorial Act,” O.C.G.A. § 12-3-190, et seq. is attached as Exhibit “A”). Thus, the General Assembly explicitly granted the Board discretion as to what is an “appropriate and suitable” memorial to the Confederacy. Page 1 of 11 I.     Club of Rotary Conyers This Week....Tim Echols - Public Service Commission Birthdays A younger Tim Echols was selected by the Atlanta Airport Rotary Club as "Student of the Year" from his high school in 1978. While at the luncheon, Tony Lucas he met Truett Cathy, a member of the Atlanta Airport Rotary Club. After the meeting, Truett invited Tim to come by his Hapeville office and there January 20th gave him a set of motivational tapes and a challenge. Echols said the tapes changed his life and as a result of listening to Zig Ziglar and his Ron Smith teaching, Tim set a goal to be a statewide elected official. January 28th Thua G. Barlay Shortly after graduating from UGA, Tim and his wife Windy founded TeenPact, a training experience for conservative high school students. The January 28th program began at the Georgia Capitol and now operates in 45 states, having trained 50,000 students. After building TeenPact, Echols ran for and Sam Crowe was elected to statewide office in 2010 serving as Public Service Commissioner. February 3rd The PSC's primary job is energy regulation. When Echols took office, Georgia was 34th in solar power. Now, 9 years later the state is 10th in the Tisa Smart- nation in approved solar. In 2020, Conservatives for Clean Energy dubbed Echols the "Solar Architect of Georgia." Washington February 12th Echols has also created the Clean Energy Roadshow that has traveled the state every summer for the last eight years. This project, which has been set up in all the United States since November, 1935, has compiled numerous guide¬ books and special studies for many sections of the country. Although the various units operate under Federal funds, the sponsorship of a local civic body is necessary for publica¬ tion. The Macon Guide is sponsored by the Macon Junior Chamber of Commerce, which has also given valuable as¬ sistance as consultant to the Writers’ Project. We extend our sincere thanks to this body and to other organizations and individuals who have given their services. The front of the ledger also contains a postage reference guide dating from 1914. The book is in fair condition apart from some pages that have become detached. Dates range from 1919 - 1931. This is the smaller of the two ledgers in this donation.
