Hey, who's this UltraBunny and what happened to BunnyBrains 88? Simple answer, BunnyBrains 88 changed their name to UltraBunny. See question 3 below. We're very tired off people confusing our band (the original members of BunnyBrains) with what Dan Seward is passing off as "The Bunny Brains" these days (total crap). Thus we changed our name and want you to appreciate us for what we are, not what we were. the music is still the same as BB88, and its still Malcolm Tent, Bobby Bunny and Pete Beest, we just have a new catchy name that proves our dominance over all bunny bands. 02. UltraBunny, you mean like UltraMan? You got it, we can grow to the size of large buildings and whoop the asses of giant alien monster rock bands, but only for 3 minutes. 03. Whats this about two bands named BunnyBrains? Which is the real one? Will they get back together? Bobby Bunny and Malcolm Tent started BunnyBrains in 1988. Dan Bunny (aka Eg the Poet) invited himself in as singer some time later. 16 years and 65 additional band members later, everyone had quit except for the original 3, who due to artistic and personal differences had separated into BunnyBrains 88, (original recipe) and Dan's solo act going by the name The Bunny Brains (extra crispy). Both bands formed from the same core unit which coagulated in 1988. Due to the inevitable personality conflicts inherent in rock and roll, 2 bands ended up being better than one. Both seem fairly real and neither thinks you could handle a reunification. 04. What happened to former band members such as Chandy Pinkeye, Raimondo and La Persona? Chandy is working on solo noise/electronics projects and occasionaly opens for UltraBunny. Her latest project is called Wiggleroom. Raimondo still plays guitar on his own and also engineered the Squirrel Attack ep. 05. I saw the BunnyBrains and they sucked! You saw Dan's band. Sorry about that, come see us next time instead. : ) 06. Who really started the band? To set the record straight, the BunnyBrains were originally formed by Bobby Bunny and Elisa Flynn. They were playing together in Invaders From Sears in 1987 and since the Vaders were basically Bob's band, Elisa wanted to start a new band where they could be equal partners. Elisa came up with name and the two of them wrote a list of 10 song titles that would be there first album. Bobby & Elisa immediately recorded 2 tracks (Brickhed with a Mohawk and Dead Squirrel) but almost immediately after, Elisa ran off with another man in a rival local band, and Bobby was left with a dead project. But a month later, Malcolm Tent was asked to fill in and the two gentlemen sat down for a improvised recording session in Bob's aunt's basement and 3 hours later had a 6 song demo tape. The newly formed BunnyBrains then hit the road for a few live radio performances in Connecticut and Massachussetts and just when things were getting fun, local weirdo performance artist Eg the Poet stopped by and decided to do vocals one session, and he saw a good thing and chucked his other band projects to join the bunnies. Let it be known, that since Day 1, the band had been conceived as an "open project" or a franchise, in which members joined and left on a nightly basis. You played whatever instrument you felt like bringing, and talent was never a factor. the band was quite a communal endeavor at first, a super group of members of at least a dozen other local noise bands. So yes, you could say that Bobby started the band, and that Dan had a hand in it too, but without the motivation of the 65 or so other band members over the years, all that wouldve proved worthless. BunnyBrains is a product of a scene, a melting pot of myriad musical misfits. A band whose sum outweighs the individual parts. A band that belongs to everyone and is owned by noone. Regardless of how it started, it doesnt seem to ever want to finish. We're guessing we could go another 16 years easily, and maybe someday you will be a member too! 07. Who owns the name BunnyBrains, and why dont you still use it?? We own it. Its trademarked by us as well. We lease it to Dan in exchange for him to stay away from us. We have grown up and beyond the stupidity factor that is conveyed by the name BunnyBrains, but we love the legacy and all the former band members (well, most of them at least) and feel shamed at what Dan is doing to destroy/cash in on a once great band. 08. What kind of guitar is Bobby playing? It's really strange looking... Also, what's that box he uses to do the weird vocal effects? A musicvox spaceranger. Check them out here at the musicvox website. The vocal rig is a variable assortment of rack effects, nothing special. Currently its an 4 second delay and a pitch shifter unit with a tube mic preamp. Its essentially inspired by the rig Gibby Haynes used in the Butthole Surfers, but its not like we're ripping them off or anything. : ) 09. What is Dan Bunny doing now? Really, we couldnt care less. Next question?.

  • Recess Activities, Inc. Presents Gibby Haynes Paintings
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Recess Activities, Inc. Presents Gibby Haynes Paintings April 26 - June 1, 2011 Red Hook, Brooklyn, April 26, 2011—Gibby Haynes will begin two months of work at Recess’s new Brooklyn outpost as part of its signature program, Session. Haynes’ project will be the second iteration of Recess’s collaboration with Charlotte Kidd and Dustin Yellin from Kidd Yellin Studios in Red Hook. Recess’s original location at 41 Grand Street in SoHo will remain open; both spaces will be free and open to the public. During his premiere US solo presentation, Haynes will adapt the residency room at Kidd Yellin into a production studio for a series of abstract, geometric paintings. Known for his work as a musician in the group Butthole Surfers, Haynes will translate his intimate relationship with sound and the hardcore movement into visual vocabulary. On eight-foot square canvases, the artist will use bold, contrasting colors issuing from the center in echoing circles. Revolving like a record, the canvas becomes vinyl and the paint etches vibration. About the Artist: Gibby Haynes is an American musician, radio personality, painter and the lead singer of the group Butthole Surfers. He received a BA from Trinity University. His work has been featured in exhibitions at Robert Berman Gallery in Santa Monica California and The Station in Houston Texas. By far the most pervasive and long-lived was the revival of psychedelia, that kept recurring throughout the Eighties and the Nineties. Los Angeles had its own movement, the "Paisley Underground". Psychedelia became merely a pretext to concoct baroque, oneiric and hypnotic sounds, often with the help of keyboards and strings. Byrds-ian jangling guitars and naive melodies a` la Hollies dominate Emergency Third Rail Power Trip (feb/mar - oct 1983) by Rain Parade (1), with Matt Piucci on vocals and Dave Roback on guitar, as well as the EP Baroque Hoedown (fall 1982 - dec 1982) and the album Sixteen Tambourines (? 1983 - oct 1983) by Mike Quercio's Three O'Clock (1). Needless to say, the Paisley Underground was only the tip of the iceberg. The Dream Syndicate (12), formed by guitarists Steve Wynn and Karl Precoda and bassist Kendra Smith, acted as the natural liaison between Television (and the new wave in general) and the new generation of psychedelic rockers.

  • Volume 2, Issue 19
Volume 2, Issue 19 Finding the Good in Your Quirky Accountant The movies have certainly done a good job of exaggerating and making fun of accountants and their personalities. One of my favorites is the smarmy character Louis Tully, played by Rick Moranis, in the 1984 movie Ghostbusters. “Hey, this is real smoked salmon from Nova Scotia, Canada, $24.95 a pound! It only cost me $14.12 after tax, though,” says Louis, right before he gets possessed. It might be true – most accountants are too honest for their own good. With tongue in cheek, here are five more talents of the typical accounting personality and how to put them to best use: 1. Straight-faced. Ok, so our sense of humor leaves something to be desired, but someone has to keep a straight face when the IRS arrives. One of the best at this was Bob Newhart, a famous comedian known for his deadpan. He’s known for his sitcoms, The Bob Newhart Show (1970s), where he played a psychologist, and the 1980s show Newhart where he played an innkeeper. The fact that Bob’s career started out in accounting may explain a lot. 2. A knack for numbers. When a big group goes out for dinner or drinks and wants to settle the check, it’s handy to have your accountant around. Who else will be able to let everyone know what they owe, get it correct down to the penny (and yes – I mean penny), collect it from everyone, and settle that restaurant bill in less than ten minutes? Now that’s talent.

Nouse Web Archives Band of the Week: Butthole Surfers Page 1 of 4 News Comment MUSE. Politics Business Science Sport Roses Freshers Muse › Music › Band of the Week › News Features Reviews Playlists Band of the Week: Butthole Surfers Resident sound-nerd Tom Killingbeck thumbs through reams of musty vinyl so you don’t have to. Here are his weekly recommendations… Monday 11 April 2011 #22: Butthole Surfers Who: Gibby Haynes, Paul Leary, King Coffey. Jeff Pinkus, Teresa Nervosa. When: 1970’s-Present. Where: USA. Why: Few bands can claim to have achieved as much infamy and success having given themselves a ridiculous, entirely uncommercial name as the Butthole Surfers. Hailing from Texas, Gibby Haynes was the son of local TV personality ‘Mr. Peppermint’ and seemed primed for a conventional life; captain of his college’s basketball team, and the school’s ‘Accountant of the Year’. But, despite his jock veneer, Haynes was a freak at heart, publishing a zine full of comedic descriptions and pictures of diseases called Strange V.D. with partner in crime Paul Leary. The pair dropped out and tried to start a business selling Lee Harvey Oswald fan merchandise, before deciding that forming a band might be a better venture. It didn’t take long before the two, having recruited a rhythm section in brothers Scott and Quinn Matthews, were spotted by Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys, and signed to his label Alternative Tentacles. After a couple of years, and following the release of their insane debut LP, which combined rabid punk with multifarious surreal elements, the line-up fell into place.
