Speakers’ biographies

Alberto Grando Alberto Grando is Vice Rector for Development at Bocconi University, where he is Professor of Operations Management at the Department of Management and Technology. He is also Professor at the Technology and Production Unit of SDA Bocconi School of Management. His areas of expertise include Operations Strategy, Supply Chain Management, Operations Performance Measurement. Visiting Professor at Cranfield School of Management (UK), he has published a number of books and articles in academic and professional journals. He is also Board Member of many Scientific and Academic Advisory Boards of national and international Institutions and research centres; among the others, EFMD – European Foundation for Management Development, EABIS – European Association for Business in Society, BCFN – Barilla Center for Food and Nutrition.

Michele Polo Michele Polo is full professor in Economics, eni Chair in Energy Markets and Director of the Centre for Energy and Environmental Economics and Policy (Iefe) at Bocconi University. He has studied at Bocconi University and the London School of Economics. His research interests are in Industrial Organization, Regulation and Antitrust, Liberalization of Network Industries and Energy Economics. He has published several books and articles in important international Journals. He has been advisor of the Chief Economist at the DG Competition in Bruxelles.

Fabrizio Spada Fabrizio Spada is Head of the European Commission’s Regional Representation in Milan. Mr. Fabrizio Spada takes office as Head of Regional Representation in Milan from 1st April 2012. Mr. Spada, previously Press Officer of the European Commission Regional Representation in Milan, brings over 15 years of experience in the Commission. Since joining the European Commission in 1996, he has worked in the Directorate General responsible for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion and in Directorate General for Agriculture and Rural Development. He served the DG Employment dealing with European Social Fund Operations monitoring national employment and social inclusion plans. In the DG Agriculture and Rural Development he worked on legislative and related matters concerning national and regional rural development programmes in the Member States. Mr. Spada's experience and his background in economics, finance and law will enable the Commission Regional Representation in Milan to play a key role in communicating with local citizens and the media, as well as enhancing relations between the European Commission and national and local authorities and stakeholders, especially in the context of the Italian Presidency in the second half of 2014 and Milan EXPO 2015.

Edoardo Croci Edoardo Croci Research Director of IEFE, the research center of economics and policy of energy and environment at Bocconi University, Milan, where he is Coordinator of the “Green Economy Observatory” and teaches “Carbon Markets and Carbon Management”. Professor of Environmental Policy at the Milan State University. His main research areas are: economics of climate change, environmental policy, urban sustainability. Served as Milan City Deputy Mayor for Mobility, Transport and Environment, President of the Agency for the protection of the Environment of Lombardy Region, Vicepresident of FEDARENE (European Federation of Regional Energy and Environment Agency), and Vicepresident of Italian Agenda 21 Coordination association. Member of the Editing Committee of the review “Economics and Policy of Energy and the Environment.”

Fabio Iraldo Fabio Iraldo is Associate Professor at Scuola Sant’Anna of Pisa (Institute of Management) and Research Director at IEFE - Institute of Energy & Environment Economics & Policy of Bocconi University, where he is Coordinator of the Observatory on Green Economy, IEFE, Bocconi University. In 2006 he founded Cesisp - Centre for the development of sustainability in products, in collaboration with the University of Genoa and the Polytechnic of Turin. He has coordinated several projects financed by the European Commission, among which: EVER “Evaluation of Emas for the Revision”, Life+ ECCELSA “Environmental Compliance based on Cluster Experiences and Local SME Approaches”, EcoInnovation IMAGINE “Innovation for a Made ‘Green’ in Europe”, BAT4MED (FP7), Life+ LAIKA “Local Authorities Improving Kyoto Actions”, Life+ BRAVE “Better Regulation Aimed at Valorising Emas” e Life+ PREFER “Product Environmental Footprint Enhanced by Regions”.

He has also been leading consultant for the Commission in the evaluation process for the policies of Sustainable Consumption & Production which has been at the basis of the recent community strategy “Building the Single Market for Green Products”.

Aldo Ravazzi Douvan Aldo Ravazzi Douvan Economist at the Italian Ministry of Environment, he has facilitated the 2012 work of MoE experts on green fiscal reform. He is Vice-President of Green Budget Europe, the European platform of experts serving the EU Commission and Member Countries for the promotion of environmental fiscal reforms, the removal of environmentally harmful subsidies and the use of market instruments for environmental policy. He has chaired for several years the OECD Committees on Taxation & Environment and on the Integration of Environmental & Economic Policies; he presently chairs the OECD Committees on Country Environmental Reviews and on Biodiversity, Water & Ecosystems. He is Vice-President of the Plan Bleu (UNEP-MAP) for development and environment in the Mediterranean. He teaches sustainable development at LUISS University, he is a IAERE Board member. He was part of the Italian delegation to Rio+20. Previously he has been Head of the IRI Research & Economic Analysis Office and a coordinator of the Italian Environmental Authority for the greening of EU structural funds. Among recent publications: “Ecological fiscal reform in times of economic- financial crisis” in "Italy beyond the crisis", Ambiente Italia 2013 Report, Edizioni Ambiente (in Italian).

Barbara Degani Barbara Degani is Undersecretary of State of the Italian Ministry of the Environment. In 2000 she was elected as Regional Councilor in the Veneto Region. She held the position of member of the Commission on Statute and Regulation and of the Commission on Institutional Affairs, Budget, Control, Local Authorities, Staff and Programming. In 2005 she was re-elected Regional Councilor in the Veneto Region. She held the position of President of the Special Commission for Venice, President of the Commission on Institutional Affairs, Budget, Control, Local Authorities, Staff and Programming. In 2009 she was elected President of the Province of Padua, a role which she held until her appointment as Undersecretary of State. On 28th February 2014, she was appointed Undersecretary at the Ministry of Environment by the Council of Ministers chaired by Matteo Renzi. Other administrative positions held:

Shardul Agrawala Shardul Agrawala is Head of the Environment and Economy Integration Division at the OECD Environment Directorate. He took up duties full time in July 2013. In this capacity, Dr. Agrawala leads the Directorate’s work on economic-environmental modelling, empirical analysis of environmental policies, trade and environment, and on resource productivity and waste. At the OECD since 2002, Dr. Agrawala has previously served as Senior Advisor to the OECD Secretary General, Co-ordinator of the OECD-wide initiative on New Approaches to Economic Challenges, Acting Head of the Climate Change Biodiversity and Development Division, and Senior Economist Climate Change. Dr. Agrawala has published extensively on climate change. He has led teams of international experts for chapters of the Fourth and Fifth Assessment Reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). He has testified before the US Congress, contributed to the Stern Review, and served

on advisory panels for the Pilot Program on Climate Resilience of the World Bank and the International Climate Initiative (ICI) of the German Government. Dr Agrawala received his PhD from Princeton University and has previously held research positions at Princeton University, Harvard University, Columbia University and at the International Institute of Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA).

Carlo Carraro Carlo Carraro is a professor of Environmental Economics and Econometrics at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. He holds a Ph.D. from Princeton University. He was President of the University of Venice from 2009 to 2014 and Director of the Department of Economics from 2005 to 2008. In 2008, he was elected Vice-Chair of the Working Group III and Member of the Bureau of the Nobel Laureate Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). He worked as an IPCC Lead Author since 1995. Professor Carraro is the Director of the Climate Change and Sustainable Development Programme of the Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei, Executive Board Member of the Euro Mediterranean Centre for Climate Change (CMCC), and Director of the International Centre for Climate Governance (ICCG). He is also Co-Chair of the Green Growth Knowledge Platform Advisory Committee and the Editor of the Review of Environmental Economics and Policy, the most important international journal in its field.

Walter Facciotto Walter Facciotto is the General Director of CONAI, the National Packaging Consortium, guarantor of the recycling and recovery of packaging waste nationwide. Facciotto has gained experience in the packaging industry in over 25 years of activity, primarily in the paper and cardboard sector, for which he has held for several years positions in associations, both at national and international level. Based on his experience, which was then extended to other materials, he contributed from the beginning to the definition and establishment of the Italian management model of packaging waste represented by the CONAI consortium system, both nationally and internationally. For a decade, from 1999 to 2009, he held the position of Deputy General Director of CONAI, dealing with the implementation of the consortium territorial strategies with particular attention to the ANCI- CONAI framework agreement, on which the sorted waste collection and recycling/recovery of packaging waste is based.

Guillaume Sainteny Guillaume Sainteny has held several responsibilities inside the French Ministry for Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and Sea, in charge for clean technologies and climate change negotiations notably as Deputy Head of the Cabinet of the Minister and Director for Economic Affairs and Environmental Assessment. He has started his own consulting company in the field of environment. He has been teaching Sustainable Development notably at Sciences Po Paris and Ecole Polytechnique. He is inter alia Member of the Advisory Board of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, Member of the Advisory Board of the Committee 21, Member of the Advisory Board of the Environmental Factory, Member of the Editorial Review Board of Commentaire, Droit de l’environnement, Ecologie et Politique and Vraiment Durable. He has, inter alia, been a Member of the Board of the European Environment

Agency, French Financing Agency for Transports Infrastructure, National Heritage Foundation, National Institute for Environment and Industrial Risks, National Geographical Institute, Radioprotection and Nuclear Safety Institute. He has also been Member of the National Council for Sustainable Development, French official consultative council dependent on the Prime Minister Office, General Secretary of the Scientific Council for Biodiversity and

Natural Heritage, General Secretary of the Prevention and Precaution Committee. He owns a Ph.D. in Political Science completed with high distinction, receiving unanimous agreement with governing committee (Université de Paris I Panthéon Sorbonne), a Master of Business Administration (University of Chicago), a Master and Bachelor in Law (Université de Paris II), a Diploma of Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris, a Diploma of Institut des Hautes Etudes de Défense Nationale.

Rosario Bifulco Rosario Bifulco Since January 2009 Mr. Rosario Bifulco is Executive Chairman of the Board at Sorin Group S.p.A., a leader medical company in the treatment of cardio- vascular diseases. He also serves as Chairman of Banca ITB S.p.A., an innovative on-line vertical Italian bank. He founded and developed Humanitas S.p.A. in Milan, one of Europe's most advanced hospitals. He is actually Deputy Chairman of the Territory, Environment and Energy Sector in Assolombarda. He has been Member of the Board of Saipem S.p.A., Chairman of Pierrel S.p.A., Vice Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of a2a S.p.A., Chairman and CEO of Lottomatica S.p.A., Vice President at Sirti S.p.A. and Managing Director at Techint Group. He graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Politecnico in Naples and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Paolo Pipere Paolo Pipere is Head of the Environment and Sustainability Dept of the Chamber of Commerce of Milan. Since 1991 is engaged in environmental research, education and business support. His field of specialization is Environmental Law, Environmental Public Policies and Environmental management of Companies and Organizations. He is a member of several scientific and editorial committees and cooperates with national and international research groups. He is the author of more than forty books. He is columnist for the financial newspaper Ilsole24ore and for other environment and sustainability magazines.

Ermete Realacci Ermete Realacci has promoted and chairs Symbola, Foundation for Italian Qualities, and has lead since the origins the NGO Legambiente, of which he is still honorary president. Presently he is President of the Environment, Territory & Public Works Commission of the Parliament’s Chamber of Deputies, and a member of the direction of the . Many are the battles he has fought in these years: from the safeguard of environment - interpreted as an inimitable twining of nature, culture, social cohesion, creativity and point of strength of most precious Italian resources: landscape, cultural goods, quality tourism, made in Italy - up to the promotion of high quality and “0Km” agro-food productions and fair trade; from the defence of small communes to the initiatives for freeing cities from pollution, traffic congestion and illegal building, up to the fight against ecomafias and for avoiding the coming back of nuclear plants in Italy. To give voice and strength to Italian talents, as a resource for the future of the Country, he has written with Antonio Cianciullo “Soft Economy” (Bur, 2005) and last year “Green Italy - Perché ce la possiamo fare [Why we can make it]” (Chiarelettere, 2012).

Alberto Frausin Alberto Frausin After the degree in Economics at Bocconi University in Milan, Alberto Frausin, 58 years-old, began a sound career in the FMCG world, both in Italy and at international level. He worked for Kraft, Johnson Wax, Ferrero both in Marketing and Sales and afterwards in the General management of Manetti & Roberts. After the role of CEO of Zambon and Galbani - Gruppo Lactalis, he became CEO for Carlsberg Italia in 2007. Since June 2011 he has been acting also as President of Assobirra – the National Brewers Association. In 2014 he was furthermore appointed as CEO of the Center of Excellence (CoE) of Carlsberg Group, the international team created for further developing the DraughtMaster™ project at international level .

Giuseppe Pasini Giuseppe Pasini is chairman of Feralpi Holding S.p.A, the holding company of the Feralpi Group, which is one of Europe’s leading and most qualified steel manufacturers with production plants in Italy, Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Algeria, as well as companies operating in other sectors, such as metalworking, environment, ecology, finance and fish farming. He was elected chairman of Caleotto S.p.A. in 2015. In February 2009, Pasini became a member of Mittel S.p.A.’s Board of Directors, and joined the Executive Committee in March 2014. In November 2014 he was appointed chairman of the Banco Popolare Development Committee for the Province of Brescia. Since 2005 he has been member of the Executive Committee of the Brescia Industrialists’ Association, where he has held the office of Vice-Chairman since 2013 with powers for matters regarding the Environment, Occupational Health & Safety and Social Responsibility. In 2004 he entered the National Board of Confindustria, the Italian Industrialists’ Confederation, and is currently Vice-Chairman of Federcostruzioni, the Italian building industry federation. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of Brescia-based Fondazione della Comunità Bresciana, a non-profit foundation since May 2009, and sat on the Executive Board from April 2010 to April 2013. He has previously held the office of chairman of Federacciai, the federation of Italian steel makers, and Confindustria Metalli, the federation of national associations for metal industries.

Luca Ruini Luca Fernando Ruini

As Global Health & Safety, Environment & Energy Director, Luca F. Ruini leads the development of a Sustainable Barilla Group Supply Chain process by improving knowledge and culture related to Health & Safety, Fire Prevention & Protection, Environment and Energy. He has the responsibility to set strategic directions, goals, priorities for all the aspects of a Sustainable Supply Chain and to develop consistent processes, organization, competences, systems and KPIs for People Health & Safety, Fire Prevention & Protection, Environment & Energy areas. For more than five years in the last decade he had been also the Quality Manager of all the Bakery Barilla Brands: Mulino Bianco, Pavesi & Wasa. Luca Ruini is also the Barilla Group reference in the Barilla Center for Food & Nutrition (BCFN - www.barillacfn.com) for the Sustainable Growth Area due to the competences developed on Food Supply Chain Sustainability. The BCFN Paper managed: Double Pyramid & Sustainable Diets, Water Economy, Sustainable Agriculture, GMO & Biotechnology, Food Waste. Since 2001 he has been an Industrial Expert at the European Integrated Pollution Prevention & Control Food, Drink & Milk (EU IPPC)- Technical Working Group –Joint Research Center in Seville (Spain). He is Board Member & Responsible of the Packaging Prevention Activity at Italian Packaging & Packaging Waste Consortium (Co.Na.I.-Consorzio Nazionale Imballaggi). He is one of the first Members of the Italian Business Continuity Manager (www.bcmanager.it). Graduated at the Alma Mater Studiorum University in Bologna as Electronic Engineer, he has been working in Barilla since 1992. 50 years old. He works in Parma Barilla HQ and lives with his wife (a latin & ancient greek teacher) and his two daughters in Modena.
