It's not very often we get purposefully thanked but I want to say a big thankyou. Firstly to Rev Beverly and the Circuit Leadership Team for covering my Sabbatical so well. Then on return from Sabattical a huge thankyou to all who helped The Narnia Experience become so succussful; nearly 3,000 people and 16 primary schools "went through the wardrobe" and many wonderful and even life-changing experiences took place. The joy for me and my heartfelt thanks focus on the way our Circuit pulled together and worked together for a common aim of helping others find and experience the message of Christ. See what can be done - thank you one and all. Towards the end of this quarter we will be saying another Thank You and that will be to Deacon Geoff and Carol as they retire and move to St Austell to live. Deacon Geoff has admirably fulfilled the role within the Circuit and looking back over his three years here we can see how Church and Circuit have developed with Deacon Geoff's help. A huge thank you Geoff. We thank God too for Rev Paul Benney's stationing to our Circuit and look forward to welcoming him on Saturday 29th August at Helston Methodist Church at 7.30pm with the President of Conference. I especially want to thank the friends of Chynhale for the very gracious and forward thinking way in which they have worked through arriving at the point of "purpose fulfilled" for their Church building. I invite the Circuit to continue to pray for our friends from Chynhale as they continue to discern their mission, worship and service. My final thank you is to all those who hold office in the Churches and in our Circuit in these challenging days. For all the service, prayer, devotion to duty and mission and outreach done in the name of Christ through this Circuit I thank God and each one of you. Perhaps we can over this quarter purposefully thank each other and show our appreciation. Thank you one and all. At the moment we are at the preliminary stage and we have been given an initial grant for us and our firm of chartered surveyors to do the foundational work, necessary when drawing up specifications to send to potential contractors who can submit estimates and tenders based on the specification. There is much work to be done to slopes of the roof and tower, to the walls of the building and to the floor.

    THE John Harris Newsletter Society No 60 Summer 2017 John Harris: miner, poet, preacher 1820-1884 This classic and beautiful picture of Wheal Coates, on Cornwall’s north coast between Porthtowan and St Agnes, taken by Tony Kent, of Truro, has been used on the flyer being sent to organisations and individuals worldwide to highlight the bi-centenary festival of John Harris in 2020. We are extremely grateful to Tony for allowing us to use this photograph. See page 3 for a picture of the complete flyer. JHS 2 Annual general meeting – 18 February ’17 Thirty four people, including descendants of William John Bennetts, attended the meeting and stayed for David Thomas‘ presentation of ‗The William John Ben- netts Photographic Archive’ (covering the Camborne district in the Victorian pe- riod). We are grateful to David and to those who provided and served the refresh- ments as they concluded a very pleasant, interesting and informative afternoon. At the meeting, we welcomed three new members to the Society and I am de- lighted to say that Mr Peter Bickford-Smith, of Chynhale, was appointed as our President for a four-year period which will give continuity through our 2020 Bi- Centenary Festival. Further information about Peter is included later in this news- Paul Langford letter. During the business meeting, thanks were expressed to Caroline Palmer for her maintenance of the Facebook page and to Diane Hodnett for keeping the website up to date. The fact that we are not a wealthy Society was shown by the financial statement that showed a balance at 31 December 2016 of £726.93.

That makes 229 resident • Open stony, sparsely-vegetated areas on free-draining soils presumably maintained either by exposure breeding species, of which about 63% (147) are RDB (8), Nationally Scarce (46) or rare in the county (93). or grazing: Ophonus puncticollis – see extinct species above Where a species has been accorded “Nationally Scarce” or “British Red Data Book” status this is shown • On dry sandy soils, usually on coast, presumably maintained by exposure or grazing: immediately following the scientific name. Ophonus sabulicola (Looe, VCH) The various categories are essentially as follows: • Open heath vegetation, generally maintained by grazing: Poecilus kugelanni – see BAP species above RDB - species which are only known in Britain from fewer than 16 of the 10km squares of the National Grid. • Unimproved flushed grass pastures with Devil’s-bit-scabious: • Category 1 Endangered - taxa in danger of extinction Lebia cruxminor (‘Bodmin Moor’, 1972 & Treneglos, 1844) • Category 2 Vulnerable - taxa believed
