New 2X suite – first in market with Zero-Management thin clients Submitted by: JBPR (Towcester) Wednesday, 10 February 2010

2X Software (http://www.2x.com) announces the release of its new updated suite of desktop virtualisation software, comprising 2X VirtualDesktopServer, 2X ApplicationServer and 2X LoadBalancer. Each product is now updated to version 8 – which, for the first time, includes Zero-Management technology – meaning more reason than ever for organisations to make the move to virtualised desktop architecture. Version 8 not only includes the ability to publish applications and virtual desktops, but also allows the management of user thin client configurations from within the application console, creating an all-in-one application for remote publishing and device management. The new release will further reduce IT administration hassles, by allowing centralised control of both device groups and published resources. 2X version 8 products deliver key benefits – including improved management, time saving, better value, with more features integrated for the same price – with the same reliability trusted by thousands of organisations globally. "Version 8 of the 2X VirtualDesktopServer and 2X ApplicationServer allows administrators, for the first time, to deploy and manage VDI sessions and thin clients using a single management source," explained Nikolaos Makris, CEO of 2X Software. "We've also included additional features, such as Universal Scanning, and continue to focus upon building reliable, innovative and cost-effective solutions serving businesses of all sizes." The new products boast significant advantages to the Version 7 release, including the following: •Managing client settings: system administrators will now have the ability to monitor and control user settings from the management console, simplifying user settings overrides. This centralisation enables much easier administration, saving significant time without the need to set-up each machine manually. •Zero-Management Thin Clients: any device can now be converted to a thin client, without any additional management controls – the device can be booted in PXE mode, allowing new hardware to be detected automatically. •Management of 2X SecureClientGateways: while in previous versions, administrators could only control a single 2X SecureClientGateway, and only if it was running on the same machine as the 2X PublishingAgent, VDS Version 8 will allow administrators to remotely install and manage multiple 2X SecureClientGateways. •Windows CE Client: 2X VDS Version 8 will support devices running Windows CE, with virtually the same functionality as standard XP and Vista clients. •TWAIN Redirection: 2X VDS Version 8 will also include TWAIN redirection, allowing any application using TWAIN technology to use hardware connected to the client device, making third-party scanning

Page 1 redirection solutions unnecessary. Zero Management thin clients By utilising an existing thin client or PC, at boot time a small footprint is downloaded to it from a central location. This OS is all that’s required to start the machine and connect to a terminal server. In version 8 of the release, 2X has included a limited functionality version of its ThinClientServer, with means it has incorporated Zero Management thin client technology into their central management software. UK Office Recently 2X has invested in a UK office to support its growing UK customer base and the Version 8 suite broadens the appeal to medium and larger enterprises planning on virtualising their desktops. Many companies are deciding to go down the virtualisation route for good business reasons, not least cost reduction and mobility. However, often they come up against administration and performance constraints. 2X software is designed to overcome these issues by providing centrally managed access to virtual desktops and applications – hosted on VMware, Microsoft, Virtualron, Parallels, Sun VirtualBox and other leading virtualisation platforms. About 2X VirtualDesktopServer 2X VirtualDesktopServer publishes any Windows application or virtual desktop onto remote computers, including Thin Clients, Mac and PC’s without the need to install the application or desktop onto each user's machine. This saves significantly on administration and support. VirtualDesktopServer is designed to be highly cost-effective from the outset, particularly as its charging structure is based on the number of agents (servers) rather than per user, as the platform vendors favour. Easy to use, yet powerful 2X’s development team has ensured the new software hits the right button with users: for the administrator it’s easy to setup and manage, including intuitive step-by-step wizards; for the end-user it’s simple to use and fast, with a clear, easy-to-navigate Windows-like client.
