Anna Granath Hansson Department of Real Estate and Construction Management, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden Contact: [email protected] Abstract. Homelessness has increased substantially in Sweden in the last decade with an emphasis on structural homelessness. Further, municipalities have the responsibility to house a certain number of newly arrived immigrants under the Settlement Act. Many municipalities have had difficulties in meeting the acute housing need, as well as its costs, and have started to look at new types of housing solutions. Initiatives of the civil society and private developers have been encouraged. This paper investigates three civil society and private housing developments and how they might contribute to socially and economically sustainable housing solutions for households in or on the verge to homelessness. In order to operationalize social and economic sustainability in relation to these local projects, a definition and an analytical set of questions have been developed based on the literature and project data. It is concluded that all three projects are socially and economically sustainable at the outset, but that certain traits of the project set-ups make them more uncertain in the longer run. The concept of sustainability proved fruitful in analysing the projects, but in many cases, non-physical factors will be person dependent and therefore difficult to generalise.

Summary Summary The conflict in Syria and Iraq has resulted in an increase in the number of violent Islamist extremists in Sweden, and a significant increase of people from Sweden travelling to join terrorist groups abroad. Since 2012 it is estimated that about 300 people from Sweden have travelled to Syria and Iraq to join terrorist groups such as the Islamic State (IS) and, to a lesser extent, al-Qaeda affiliated groups such as Jabhat al-Nusra. Even though the foreign fighter issue has been on the political agenda for several years and received considerable media attention, very little is known about the Swedish contingent.

    carl bildt Den stapplande vägen till reformer och till Europa Kronförsvaret hösten 1992 är en episod i den större sagan om Sveriges ansträngningar att reformera sin ekonomi och övervinna sin isolering i Europa. Ingenting av det som inträffade under dessa delvis dramatiska veckor kan förstås om det inte ses i detta större sammanhang. Det handlade om ansträngningarna, mot bakgrund av den ekonomiska debatten under 1970- och 1980-talen, att reformera vår ekonomi samt om de vidare ansträngningarna att etablera ett fastare europe- iskt valutasamarbete på väg mot en gemensam europeisk valuta. I efterhand är det inte svårt att se logiken i utvecklingens linjer under dessa månader. Stödet från regering och riksdag till Riks- banken i dess försvar av kronans fasta kurs var en följd av de tidiga- re decenniernas erfarenheter. Samtidigt var Riksbankens misslyc- kande med detta en följd av orkanstyrkan i de valutaspekulationer som drog fram över de europeiska marknaderna under hösten 1992. I slutet av 1991 hade de dåvarande EG-länderna i och med för- draget i Maastricht deklarerat sin avsikt att successivt gå vidare från den inre marknaden till att under 1990-talet etablera en ekono- misk och monetär union med en gemensam valuta. Vi inom den borgerliga regering som tillträdde efter valet ville helt och fullt vara med i detta samarbete. Men från och med den danska folkomröstningen i juni 1992 till och med sommaren 1993 kom spekulationerna på de finansiella marknaderna att slita sönder det samarbete som etablerats. Så gott som samtliga europeiska valutor sveptes med i den utveckling som kulminerade när ERM-systemet de facto upplöstes sommaren 1993.

At the moment of writing, the strategy, targeted towards both the majority and the minority populations, is on the verge of becoming implemented within all the municipal administrations and the whole municipal system of governance, so it is still to tell how much it will influence and change the current situation in the municipality. Population and demographics Botkyrka is a municipality with many faces. We are the most diverse municipality in Sweden. Between 2010 and 2012 the proportion of inhabitants with a foreign background increased to 55 % overall, and to 65 % among all children and youngsters (aged 0–18 years) in the municipality.2 55 % have origin in some other country (one self or two parents born abroad) and Botkyrka is the third youngest population among all Swedish municipalities.3 Botkyrka has always been a traditionally working-class lower middle-class municipality, but the inflow of inhabitants from different parts of the world during half a decade, makes this fact a little more complex.
