This is my final president’s note to the GHTA newsletter as our new president will be in effect by the time the fall newsletter is published. KAWARTHA (cont’d) Despite rain, cold and bugs we trekked through beautiful areas with varied terrain on our Saturday hikes. Spring was unfolding around us and the wildflower displays were a treat!

Paul has a strong following for his shorter Tuesday hikes. He draws on his very thorough knowledge of the local area to plan new and interesting hikes.

Our collaboration with Barrie for Thursday events continues to be successful. Jeff's spring hikes have been well attended. They are replaced mid- June with Isabelle's biking excursions, which are scheduled throughout the summer.

We are always happy to welcome members from other clubs on our hikes—and, of course, we PHOTO: Great Grey Owl welcome new members. Hope to see you on the trails! At the spring Ganaraska Hiking Trails Association meeting in Orillia the Board of Wendy Kirk Directors voted to pay $5.00/paid member as of January 1, 2018 back to the sections of the club. So please make sure to pay your club membership in December so we can have some funds to help offset operating costs such as rental of a larger meeting room, printing costs, hostess gifts, among other things.

I would like to thank our Kawartha executive for working hard and effectively throughout my term as president, it has been a rewarding and enjoyable experience. Good luck to the new executive. Barb Rimmer
