PRESS-FOLDER COURMAYEUR FOUNDATION INTERNATIONAL CENTRE ON LAW, SOCIETY AND ECONOMICS 1 Courmayeur Foundation international Centre on law, society and economics General Basis of the By-laws The Courmayeur Foundation – International Centre on Law, Society and Economics – was set up by Regional Law No.18 of 19th April 1988, with the principal aim of establishing in the Aosta Valley a focal point of international culture, which could become an authoritative reference point for the elaboration and development of current juridical, economic and social issues. The programmes, research, studies and cultural initiatives have all focused on the growing international and European dimensions of Italian society. The Foundation, with its headquarters in Courmayeur, promotes and coordinates research activities, studies and meetings in the fields of law and economics, which, with the participation of the finest intellectual and professional people drawn from Italy and abroad, help to strengthen and spread knowledge in these subjects. A distinctive feature of the Courmayeur Foundation is its constant attention to the proactive aspects of its studies and research, which characterize the working methodologies of its patrons and are in keeping with the practical approach which has always distinguished the usages and customs of the Aosta Valley. Founding Members The Courmayeur Foundation has its headquarters in Courmayeur and owes its existence to the joint endeavours of the Autonomous Region of Aosta Valley, the Municipality of Courmayeur, the Centro nazionale di prevenzione e difesa sociale in Milan and CENSIS in Rome. CNPDS (www.cnpds.it): The national Centre for prevention and social defence, Milan, was founded in 1948 on the initiative of Alfonso Beria di Argentine, with the objective of studying the conditions and aspects of social prevention and helping to delineate the features of what subsequently became the New Social Defence movement. The aim of the work of CNPDS is mainly to assess the practical effects of legislation in the various areas under study: scientific debate, the analysis of social movements, the links between national and supra-national culture, all of which has been and still 2 remains the cornerstone of the activities of CNPDS. In recognition of its work internationally, CNPDS in 1989 was endowed with Consultative Status by the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. CENSIS (www.censis.it) the Centre for Studies in Social Investment, Rome, which was founded in 1964, has for more than thirty years engaged in constant work of research, consultancy, evaluation and projects in the vital sectors of social reality, namely: training, the city, government, communication and culture. Autonomous Region of the Aosta Valley (www.regione.vda.it) Municipality of Courmayeur (www.comune.courmayeur.ao.it) Historically imbued with an international dimension, thanks to its frontier positioning at a crossroads of trade and commerce, the Aosta Valley has promoted and played host, in concert with CNPDS and CENSIS, to an institution which emphasises this European calling and also reflects it on the cultural plane.
