America’s Walking Club The American Volkssport Association (AVA) is dedicated to promoting regular physical fitness as an essential component of overall good health. The Volkssporting movement began in Germany in 1968. It is now in 28 countries world wide.

America’s Walking Club

The AVA is the advocate for promotion and organization of walking and other non-competitive sporting events. Walking has been identified by the Surgeon General as the most beneficial form of exercise.

The walks are typically 10 kilometers with a 5 kilometer option. Nearly 400,000 people took part in AVA events during the recent two-year period. Walks are on established routes with written directions and maps. They can be walked as a group event or on your own. Some people like to walk, others run, and some enjoy a leisurely pace, stopping to site see, shop or eat.
