3. SUBJECT DESCRIPTION

Human Anatomy is an essential subject to build the basis of knowledge, within the Health Sciences, to educate professionals in Dentistry (Odontology), containing the proper programme for the mentioned purpose. Programme focused to identify the anatomical structures implied in other subjects, either Physiological, Pathological or Surgical, by the end of the term.

4. SKILLS

1.- SKILLS:

Code Basic and General Skills GS.11. Understand the basic biomedical sciences on which Dentistry (Odontology) is based upon in order to warrant a proper oral and dental care. GS.12. Understand and recognize the structure and function of the stomagtognathic system at a structural, tissue and organic level, throughout the different stages of life. BS.1 Students should have demonstrated that they have gained knowledge of and understand an area of study that starts from the base of general secondary education, and is usually seen as a level that, even though based on advanced textbooks, it also includes certain aspects that imply knowledge deriving from the vanguard of their field of study.

Code Specific Skills SS.1.HA Understand the biomedical sciences on which Dentistry (Odontology) is based in order to guarantee a proper and correct clinical and hospital care. This sciences should include appropriate contents of Embryology, Anatomy, Histology and Physiology of the human body; Genetics, Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Immunology. SS.2.HA Understand the morphology and function of the stomagtognathic system, including

3

appropriate specific contents of Embryology, Anatomy, Histology and Physiology.

2.- LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Understand the structure and development of the human body. Associations of the body structures. Association of morphology with physiology and pathology in order to understand the clinical fundamentals and the basis of general surgery in Dentistry (Odontology). Association between the structure with the two-dimensional image and the three- dimensional reconstruction of the human body. Achievement of skills in basic diagnosis and manual dexterity in surgical techniques.

5. EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES

Code Name On-site Hours T.C. Theoretical Classes 60 P.C. Practice Classes 30 TOTAL On-site Hours 90

Code Name Off-site Hours

S.S.W. Students Self Work 180

2.- TEACHING METHODOLOGY AND EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES:

Activity Definition

Teachers will present the content of the theoretical programme of the Magisterial Class subject. Educational audiovisual supportive teaching materials will be provided (documents handled in class or digitalized and uploaded in the student’s website portal). Academic Tutorials Teacher stipulates scheduled availability, self-established, for academic tutorials. Laboratory (Practices) Laboratory practices extends for 10 days in sessions of 3 hours per day, divided in two parts throughout the semester. Once assigned the corresponding Practice Shift, no changes will be allowed except for major or justified reason. Students will be assigned in groups to work the corresponding practices established in the programme of the subject, under the supervision of the responsible teacher. In addition, students will analyse and discuss the results individually, recording them in a laboratory notebook, which will be delivered exclusively to the corresponding teacher, at the date and place indicated. 4

6. LEARNING ASSESSMENT

1.- CLASS ATTENDANCE:

• Qualifying for continuous evaluation assessment requires theoretical lecture attendance of 75% (assessed by attendance controls). Nonattendance of 25% is authorized; accordingly, absence notes will not be accepted. • Attendance to theoretical/practical seminars is 100% imperative. Laboratory practices are not considered between the ordinary and extraordinary exams, hence unaccomplishment in the programmed months implies failure in both calls. It is compulsory to succeed in the laboratory exam(s) to overall pass the subject.

2.- EVALUATION SYSTEMS AND CRITERIA:

ORDINARY EXAM CALL (Continuous Evaluation) Code Name Percentage Assessments (1st and 2nd) 30% Practice (Laboratory) Exams and Activities 20% Total 50% Ordinary Exam 50% Total 100%

EXTRAORDINARY EXAM CALL Code Name Percentage Theoretical Exam 70% Practice Exam and Activities 30%

3.- DESCRIPTION OF THE ASSESSMENT and EVALUATIONSYSTEMS: Assessment and Definition Evaluation Systems Continuous Knowledge objectives will be assessed according to criteria determined by Evaluation the responsible teacher(s) of the subject. Whenever possible the suggested and elected methods will be trough written exams, especially in the forms of MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) and/or short questions and/or essay questions. Likewise, continuous evaluation will consist of 2 midterm exams throughout the term, being the lessons taken exempted for the ordinary call if succeed the corresponding exam, wherein the dates will be provided during the first weeks of the course, if possible. The subject will be satisfied with a mark greater than 6. The mentioned midterm exams can be done either on-site or through the official institutional platforms (Blackboard, Collaborate, Respondus Lockdown Browser…). Final exam will be sit in the ordinary call period during the official dates appointed by Academic Secretariat. This exam will cover all the contents taught during the term. Students in special situations and/or conditions might be granted the possibility of examining of part of the content of the subject exclusively. Final ordinary call mark consists of projects (assignments) and midterm exams, corresponding to the 30% of the total grade, laboratory final mark 5

Academic Guide / Course 2020-2021

adds another 20%, total of 50%, having the ordinary exam a value of 50%. Total equals 100%. Exceptionally this grading criteria can be changed with the approval of the teacher(s) responsible of the subject. Ordinary and Laboratory (practice) exams will be satisfied with a grade greater than 5 in order to apply the corresponding percentages. Ordinary call will be satisfied with an overall grade greater than 5. Laboratory Attendance to theoretical/practical seminars is 100% compulsory. (Practices) Laboratory practices will be satisfied with a mark greater than 5. Laboratory practices will be assessed once programmed practices period had finished, and will be evaluated by laboratory participation, laboratory portfolio and/or laboratory exam. This exam might consist in recognition of anatomical structures in models and replicas or drawings and illustrations. Extraordinary Call The students who have not passed the subject in the ordinary exam call must sit the extraordinary exam, encompassing all the contents of the subject. Students in special situations and/or conditions might be granted the possibility of examining of part of the content of the subject exclusively. Continuous evaluation percentages will not apply in the extraordinary call, which will consist in a theoretical extraordinary exam (70%), satisfied with a grade greater than 5, and a laboratory (practices) exam (30%), which compulsory must surpass a grade of 5 in order to apply the corresponding percentages. Extraordinary call will be satisfied with an overall mark greater than 5. “Students failing to attend the final exam either in ordinary or extraordinary call will be qualified as “NP (Not Presented)”, independently of completing any activity of the continuous evaluation.
