Kondisi ini sering ditemui dalam masyarakat saat ini yang kebanyakan menguasai setidaknya dua bahasa, baik itu bahasa nasional dengan bahasa daerah atau bahasa asing. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu selain untuk menambah kaidah ilmu kebahasaan, juga untuk mendeskripsikan unsur-unsur wujud alih kode dan campur kode yang terdapat dalam Lirik lagu lagu Utada Hikaru, juga akan mendeskripsikan mengenai penyebab terjadinya alih kode dan campur kode tersebut. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu metode deskriptif kualitatif studi kasus, dengan menganalisis lirik lagu lagu Utada Hikaru yang mengalami alih kode dan campur kode. Data yang digunakan berupa kumpulan lirik Karya Utada Hikaru yang di dalamnya terdapat unsur alih kode dan campur kode. Latar belakang Utada Hikaru adalah latar belakang kebahasaan menjadi faktor penyebab pencampuran bahasa asing yang dominan dalam karya lagu-lagunya.
