The program is an invaluable tool in aiding in the safety of rural Alberta children. We are blessed with hard working, dedicated and knowledgeable instructors and administrative staff. These individuals keep Safety Smarts going and growing. I am also grateful for the Board of Directors who sacrifice their time for the development and success of the Safety Smarts Program. We have had an interesting year. March 2020 brought an unexpected and challenging situation for the delivery of Safety Smarts with the unforeseen closing of all Alberta schools due to Covid 19. Delivery could not continue. The 20,000-24,000 students estimated yet to be visited by the end of June by our instructors could not happen. As a board, we are immensely appreciative for the regional Instructors work, they reached 40,662 students in 339 rural schools before schools were closed. We are hopeful for the future and the return to classes in the coming months. The administration has been working diligently at finding alternative and adaptive ways to deliver the Safety Smart Program. Their creativity will be beneficial to all rural elementary students in the future. As a mother to 5 grown children who grew up on the farm surrounded by situations which could be dangerous if they did not know the warnings and dangers, I firmly understand and believe in the Safety Smarts program. Our rural children need to continue to acquire knowledge regarding farm safety. Thankfully, they will. The Safety Smart program will continue on with the administration, instructors and others who believe in this program.     Alberta Custom Rates Survey Crop and Pastureland Lease and Rental 2016 Economics and Competitiveness Branch INTRODUCTION This Custom Rate Survey was conducted by Alberta Agriculture and Forestry, Economics and Competitiveness Branch, Statistics and Data Development Section. The data presented in this report was obtained by contacting producers and custom operators and thus represent actual charges. Please note that some instances may be “good neighbor rates” as opposed to commercial rates. The reader should be aware that varying lease and rental arrangements in different areas of the province could significantly affect the rates charged from year to year. The intent of the survey is to provide producers with additional information to help with their farm management decisions. The quality of data is dependent on the cooperation received by producers as well as commercial custom operators. We would like to thank all the survey participants who willingly provided the information for this report. If you are aware of anyone who is a custom operator that has not been contacted, but wish to participate in the survey, please do not hesitate to refer them to me.     Chinook Woodturning Guild Newsletter Volume 2017, number 10 June 2018 ============================================================================================= Previous issues of our newsletters are available on our web site http://www.chinookwoodturning.org President’s Message What is the point of woodturning demos? The executive of our guild spends a fair amount of time and energy organizing demonstrations every month for our regular meetings as well as public demonstrations several times a year and we also put on a major demonstration coupled with a workshop each spring. We always get support from our members which is much appreciated. But it raises the question of why we do this and whether we should continue. Obviously the public demos are designed to raise awareness of woodturning and of our club and maybe attract a few new members. These demos are fun to do when there is a crowd, even when the crowd is mostly kids hoping to score a spinning top hot off Coming Events Schedule of Meetings, demos and events the lathe. It gives us a chance to meet people we would not ordinarily run across and talk about what we do. It also gets us out **Regular meetings are held the third Thurs of each month Sept to June of our solitary workshops and into a social setting which is probably a good thing. 2018 . The in-house demos are another thing entirely. What do June 21 **Thurs, 6pm, Casa woodshop. BBQ. woodturners get out of watching other woodturners? Clearly it is because we think we will learn something new about our chosen July 2-31 Display of our woodturned art at Lethbridge passion.
