Rural depopulation is influencing many decisions and statistics show the current trend is not changing anytime soon. Despite these realities, the Prairie Rose School Division Board of Trustees continues to work hard to advocate for students and families in several areas, including education quality and transportation funding. We would like to request some time to speak with your council regarding our common needs and how best to serve local stakeholders. The presentation would be approximately 15 minutes in length and focus on our rural context, challenges and partnership opportunities to support families. We would also like to share with you how Prairie Rose School Division is tackling some of these challenges at the provincial level. The board's goal is to visit all of the municipal/county partners this upcoming fall. It would be helpful if you could provide us with a list of dates and times that would coordinate with your meeting schedule. If you have any questions and to share possible meeting dates, please contact Prairie Rose School Division Secretary-Treasurer Ryan Roser ([email protected] or 403 -527-5516 ext. 2313). of Service 'Ghe 1Cistor~ of .'nursing in Albert~ THE UNIVERSITY OF CALGARY LIBRARY j-{eritage of Service 'Ghe '}(isto11J of '11ursin3 in Alberta 'J-(eritage of Service 'Ghe j-HstorH of 'nursing in Alberta TONY CASHMAN Published by The Alberta Association of Registered Nurses Printed by Commercial Printers Limited Edmonton, Alberta Introduction This book has hundreds of authors, about six hundred I would think. If you can stand one more paraphrase of Mr. Churchill's resounding comment of 1940: Never in the history of Alberta has so much original research been done by so many. It started about the time of the Churchill remark. The Al berta Association of Registered Nurses was then gathering material for the book Three Centuries of Caruidian Nursing. Miss Birtles' diaries were brought to light at this time. Marion Moodie was prevailed upon to write her fascinating memoirs of Calgary General in the 1890's. So much material was gathered that Kate Shaw Brighty, then president of the AARN, engaged Eugenie Myles to put it together and it was mimeographed - they couldn't afford to print it - under the title A History of Nursing in Alberta. Margaret Fraser brought in some more things in the 1950's. The project was revived again in 1964 when local chapters of the AARN were asked to research the history of nursing in their own districts and the alumnae associations were asked to help retrace the progress of nursing education through the history of their own schools. Digging localized history is unsatisfying work. The results often seem trivial and disappointing and hardly worth the bother.

Chinook Woodturning Guild Newsletter Volume 2017, number 10 June 2018 ============================================================================================= Previous issues of our newsletters are available on our web site http://www.chinookwoodturning.org President’s Message What is the point of woodturning demos? The executive of our guild spends a fair amount of time and energy organizing demonstrations every month for our regular meetings as well as public demonstrations several times a year and we also put on a major demonstration coupled with a workshop each spring. We always get support from our members which is much appreciated. But it raises the question of why we do this and whether we should continue. Obviously the public demos are designed to raise awareness of woodturning and of our club and maybe attract a few new members. These demos are fun to do when there is a crowd, even when the crowd is mostly kids hoping to score a spinning top hot off Coming Events Schedule of Meetings, demos and events the lathe. It gives us a chance to meet people we would not ordinarily run across and talk about what we do. It also gets us out **Regular meetings are held the third Thurs of each month Sept to June of our solitary workshops and into a social setting which is probably a good thing. 2018 . The in-house demos are another thing entirely. What do June 21 **Thurs, 6pm, Casa woodshop. BBQ. woodturners get out of watching other woodturners? Clearly it is because we think we will learn something new about our chosen July 2-31 Display of our woodturned art at Lethbridge passion.
