Red Bird Candy: Sweet Answer To Dietary Restrictions All-natural Red Bird Peppermint puff mints are free of common and gluten

LEXINGTON, NC — Sometimes, staying true to history and tra- dition is the secret to success. That’s been the case for Red Bird Candy for the past 125 years.

With a growing list of allergens and sensitivities impacting what we can and can’t eat, it’s getting more difficult to find a sweet treat to enhance celebrations, from big (birthday parties) to small (afternoon snack break).

Red Bird Peppermint puffs are all natural — made with 100 per- cent natural peppermint oil, 100 percent pure cane and no high fructose corn . The candy is -free, gluten-free, -free and kosher.

“The taste of cane sugar in our candies is what sets us apart,” says Mary Cox, vice president of sales and marketing for Piedmont Candy Company. “In addition to the taste, the pure cane sugar helps us to achieve a uniquely ‘soft’ texture to our candy.”

“High fructose corn syrup, used by many of our competitors, gives candy a harder texture. Corn syrup in any form will give a candy cane hardness. The melt in your mouth texture of Red Bird candy is from pure sugar,” Cox says.

Red Bird candies are made in small batches of 100 pounds that are striped and shaped by hand, mak- ing each puff and stick unique. Founded in 1890 near where the facility stands today in Lexington, Piedmont Candy Company has improved and grown over the years thanks to modern technological advances. At the same time, they’ve held strong to the ideals and methods that have made Red Bird such an enduring favorite, including using 100 percent pure cane sugar, all natural peppermint oil and creating the stripes in Red Bird candy by hand.

Red Bird products are proudly made in North Carolina, but can be found in retail stores across the country, including Walgreens, Williams-Sonoma, CVS, Rite-Aid, A Southern Season and Lowes Foods, among others.
