A) De catholicitate Ecclesiae Christi. Pariter damnentur. Nunc vero, erga omnes supradictos Dissidentes (a fortiori erga populos neoconversos seu adhuc convertendos ! ) Ecclesia catholica mentem vere maternam exhibere deberet, solum eis _imponendo: 1 ) U nita tern fidei et cultus; 2) Necessariam subiectionem erga Apostolicam Sedem. Ipsis autem libertatem relinquendo: 1) proprios ritus seu traditiones retinendi quoad linguam et cae remonias liturgicas, ieiunium et abstinentiam, paramenta seu aedificia sacra et quoad vestitum sacerdotum in vita civili, etc; 2) quoad matrimonium clericorum iam in sacris constitutorum seu ad cautelam reordinandorum; 3) suas traditiones sequendi etiam quoad matrimonium cleri corum in future ordinandorum, si uxorem ducendi consuetudo iam inva luit inter clerum propriae regionis v. g. in Graecia et Russia. D) De clero suff cienti providendo pro exteris regionibus; Cum clerus manifeste sit insufficiens in permultis regionibus etiam catholicis v. g. in America meridionali, in Insulis Philippinis, et in iis tegionibus v. g. in Sinis, ubi Cotnmunistarum perSecutio clerum indi genam quasi ad nihilum reduxerit, nonne opportunum ·erit extraordina rias statuere regulas ad clerum sufficientem providendum? nonne pro cedendum erit ad ordinationem virorum probissimae et optimae exi stimationis, etiam si tantum propriae regionis linguam vernacul~m no verint? nonne parandum erit aliquem cursum abbreviatum philosophiae et theologiae, in linguis vetnaculis, ·pro Seminaristis illorum regionum? Meminisse fas esto exempla Apostolorum, qui post brevem praedica tionem ubique presbyteros et episcopos constituere solebant. Generatim, in instituendo clero alterius culturae regionum, v. g. Sinarum, Indiarum, Iaponiae, etc., maiorem rationem humanitatis cul- 12 MONA CHI tus et localium traditionum habere oporteret, nee manuales libros, ne que discipulorum memoriam implere barbaris nominibus, sicut essent pro nobis tarn multa nomina cultorum hominum ex Sinensibus, etc., quae penitus et sine detrimento ullo ignorantur in nostris regionibus. E) De dogmate B. M. V. Omnium gratiarum Mediatricis definiendo. Peropportunum mihi videtur in his Marianis temporibus ut Oecu menicum Concilium Beatae Mariae Virginis Mediationem universalem ad gratias obtinendas definiat. F) De Ecclesiae in universum genus humanum iuridictione declaranda. Cum homo, uti multi scientiarum cultores autumant, iamiam sit in lunam sive in alios planetas migraturus, necessariutn mihi videtur quod sine mora S. Sedes seu Oecumenicum Concilium declaret Ecclesiae catho licae in humanum genus universalem iuridictionem, quocumque id mi graret, etiam si planetas seu alium interplanetarium locum incolet. G) De Kalendario stabiliendo. • Catholic Social Teaching Edited by Gerard V
Cambridge University Press 978-1-316-51360-6 — Catholic Social Teaching Edited by Gerard V. Bradley , E. Christian Brugger Frontmatter More Information catholic social teaching Catholic Social Teaching (CST) refers to the corpus of authoritative ecclesiastical teaching, usually in the form of papal encyclicals, on social matters, beginning with Pope Leo XIII’s Rerum Novarum (1891) and running through Pope Francis. CST is not a social science and its texts are not pragmatic primers for social activists. It is a normative exercise of Church teaching, a kind of comprehensive applied – although far from systematic – social moral theology. This volume is a scholarly engagement with this 130-year-old documentary tradition. Its twenty-three essays aim to provide a constructive, historically sophisticated, critical exegesis of all the major (and some of the minor) documents of CST. The volume’s appeal is not limited to Catholics, or even just to those who embrace, or who are seriously interested in, Christianity. Its appeal is to any scholar interested in the history or content of modern CST. Gerard V. Bradley is Professor of Law at the University of Notre Dame. He has been a Visiting Professor of Politics at Princeton University, a Fellow of the Hoover Institution at Stanford, and is currently a Senior Fellow of the Witherspoon Institute. At Notre Dame he is Co-Editor-in-Chief of The American Journal of Jurisprudence and serves as Co-Director of the Natural Law Institute. E. Christian Brugger is Professor of Moral Theology at St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary in Boynton Beach, Florida. He is author of Capital Punishment and Roman Catholic Moral Tradition, 2nd ed.

Military troops had to regroup to the communist zone in the North or the noncommunist zone in the South. Civilians could also join the zone of their choice for 300 days. As a result, more than 800,000 civilians left the North to move to the noncommunist zone (Figure 3.1). Many Western newspapers published the story of Vietnamese escaping communism. The French Catholic journalMissi sent its editor in chief to cover the story. Father Naïdenoff gave a vivid depiction of their ordeal. A photograph showed a man lying on the deck of a boat, with one hand on his forehead and the other one holding a crucifix to his chest (ECPAD 1955a). The accompanying caption read: “A poignant vision of faith. In the deepest sleep, they hold a crucifix which serves as an identity card in their exodus to freedom” (Naïdenoff 1955a).

  • From Pope Leo XIII to Pope Francis Abstract: the Church
Avelino Chico, SJ Modern migration trends and the Church’s responses: from Pope Leo XIII to Pope Francis Abstract: The Church’s concern with human mobility dates from long ago. Nevertheless, her response has been changing throughout. In the 18th and 19th century, her main interest was allowing migrants the opportunity of listening to the Gospel. For that, national churches were created at the host countries and Catholics were at the core of this pastoral initiative. But from 20th century, the Church’s attention was broadened. The beneficiaries were the whole people of God. Migrants come from every corner of the world and this was seen as an opportunity to foster ecumenical and interreligious dialogue. The complexity of this displacement has shown that economic crisis was no longer the main push factor. People tend to migrate where their spiritual, physical and cultural need can be met. This brings on board the argument that migration is not a spontaneous phenomenon; rather than, it has an internal logic and structure. This article will be looking at the Church’s responses to migration and the way in which migration flows has been characterized. Introduction “Like many birds, but unlike most other animals, humans are a migratory species. Indeed, migration is as old as humanity itself”.1 The Church has never questioned her role as the ‘teacher of humanity’; neither has it retreated in her mission of protecting immigrants. Besides immigrants, the Church has been taking care of emigrants, refugees and internally displaced people.2 The subjects of 1 Douglas S. Contributions of the Social Teaching of the Roman Catholic Church on Migration Jorge E. Castillo Guerra Faculty of Philosophy, Theology & Religious Studies Radboud University Nijmegen, The Netherlands Source: Exchange, Volume 44, Issue 4, pages 403 – 427; Publication Year: 2015 DOI: 10.1163/1572543X-12341373; ISSN: 0166-2740 E-ISSN: 1572-543X Keywords: borders policy; migration; immigration; social teaching of the Roman Catholic Church; Pope Francis; Pastoral Constitution Exsul familia nazarethana Abstract This article searches for contributions provided by the social teaching of the Roman Catholic Church to avoid suffering and death under migrants, that, following Pope Francis, are provoked from a ‘culture of rejection’. From an interdisciplinary approach this article facilitates the assessment of mechanisms that generate these situations. It also focuses on the ethical and theological criteria of the Catholic social teaching to achieve a culture of encounter and acceptance of migrants and refugees. Introduction Migration is one of the most dramatic phenomena of contemporary history, given the diversity and breadth of geographies it entails and taking into account the contexts where emigration, traffic, immigration and re-migration occur. Within each context the interests of the respective societies need to be taken into account. In particular, migrants whose lives are at stake and who face barriers created by the states that envisage their presence as a source of conflict should be considered. The lack of legal means of access to other countries has turned the search for a better life into a criminal act. The industry of human trafficking has emerged and migrants have been forced to initiate an insecure and clandestine course.

Director: Kurt Martens, J.C.D. The apostolic constitution Anglicanorum Cœtibus is a response to petitions from groups of Anglicans to be received into communion with the Holy See in a corporate manner. This dissertation examines the origin of such petitions, the development of the principles guiding the response, and an analysis of the legislation. Chapter One traces the origins of corporate reunion from Newman to the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council, in particular the Association for Promoting the Unity of Christendom and the Malines Conversations. Chapter Two discusses the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council with respect to ecumenism and Anglicanism. It examines the establishment of relations between Anglicans and the Holy See, the Anglican-Roman Catholic International Commission (ARCIC), and proposals for the corporate reunion of Anglicans in the Diocese of Amritsar, the United States, the Diocese of Matabeleland, and the United Kingdom. Chapter Three considers the overtures made by groups of Anglicans from 2005 to 2009. This includes the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA), Church of England bishops, and the Traditional Anglican Communion.

The Papal Magisterium and Human Mobility from Leo XIII to Paul VI (1878-1978) FRANCESCO FERRARI University of Turin, Italy Abstract This article analyzes the development of the papal magisterium on human mobility during the period that went from the election of Leo XIII (1878) to the death of Paul VI (1978). What emerges from the research is a complex situation, characterized by a consistent thought in which each Pope chose to preserve specific elements while making his own specific, individual contribution to the problem. The article begins with Leo XIII and his concern for the faith of emigrants, it then reviews Pope Pius’ papacy where the tensions due to the Fascist regime characterized the period up to Pius XII. Paolo VI opened the papal magisterium to the new perspectives proposed by the Second Vatican Council as well as the great changes of human mobility that occurred after the second world war.
