    Chapter 3 Current Trends in Vector-Based Internet Mapping: A Technical Review Christophe Lienert, Bernhard Jenny, Olaf Schnabel, and Lorenz Hurni Abstract Possibilities and limitations of Internet cartography software largely depend on the pace set by the software industry. The variety of commercial and non-commercial software caters for the needs of a continuously growing mapping community, including both professional and amateur cartographers. This chapter provides an overview of state-of-the-art technologies for vector-based Web- mapping as of the beginning of 2011. Both proprietary and open format technologies are discussed for vector data rendering in browsers, highlighting their advantages and disadvantages. The discussed technologies are Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight, Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), JavaFX, Canvas, and WebGL. The chapter also discusses client and server side frameworks which provide Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) for creating custom interactive maps, mainly by overlaying raster images with vector data. 3.1 Introduction Internet maps are the major form of spatial information delivery, as the Internet is today the primary medium for the transmission and dissemination of maps (Peterson 2008). For map authors, the maze of available techniques for creating and distributing Web maps is overwhelming, while authoring tools for Web-maps meeting the demands of high-quality cartography are difficult to find. Map authors may choose between GIS and graphics software products to create maps for the Internet, but these off-the-shelve maps oftentimes fall short of effectively convey- ing information. There are three main reasons for this shortcoming: (a) the design of these maps sometimes does not take into account the specific limitations of digital displays (Jenny et al., 2008); (b) the maps are often restricted in using standard C.

    Effect Handlers, Evidently NINGNING XIE, Microsoft Research, USA JONATHAN IMMANUEL BRACHTHÄUSER, University of Tübingen, Germany DANIEL HILLERSTRÖM, The University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom PHILIPP SCHUSTER, University of Tübingen, Germany DAAN LEIJEN, Microsoft Research, USA Algebraic effect handlers are a powerful way to incorporate effects in a programming language. Sometimes perhaps even too powerful. In this article we define a restriction of general effect handlers with scoped resumptions. We argue one can still express all important effects, while improving reasoning about effect handlers. Using the newly gained guarantees, we define a sound and coherent evidence translation for effect handlers, which directly passes the handlers as evidence to each operation. We prove full soundness and 99 coherence of the translation into plain lambda calculus. The evidence in turn enables efficient implementations of effect operations; in particular, we show we can execute tail-resumptive operations in place (without needing to capture the evaluation context), and how we can replace the runtime search for a handler by indexing with a constant offset.     Schede di comparazione 1969 – 2009 1. Presentazione Uno degli obiettivi di questa ricerca è di verificare quale sia la tendenza attuale dell’impatto delle lotte dei lavoratori nei quotidiani attraverso l’elaborazione di schede di comparazione fra l’autunno 1969 e quello del 2009. Si è già sottolineato come non si voglia forzare un parallelo fra le due stagioni sindacali, piuttosto generare una riflessione attraverso il confronto su dei parametri che, se pur parziali e soggetti a interpretazione, indicano una differenza indicativa nell’impatto mediatico fra i due periodi. Nell’elaborazione delle schede e nella creazione dell’indice degli articoli va specificato che: - I giornali presi in esame nel 1969 sono 7 e nelle schede di comparazione del corrispettivo 2009 vengono considerati gli stessi 7 giornali con la sostituzione di Paese sera (che ha chiuso nel 1994) con Il Manifesto; - Nell’indice degli articoli pubblicati nel 2009 vengono invece riportati anche altri giornali (per esempio La Repubblica) per dare una maggiore completezza di informazione; - I mesi considerati nella ricerca sono gli stessi per i due periodi: da settembre a fine dicembre. 1 2. Il periodo e i quotidiani - 1969 Per il 1969 sono stati documentati i mesi di settembre, ottobre, novembre e dicembre , dove inizia la trattativa per il rinnovo del contratto dei metalmeccanici (8 settembre) e termina a fine dicembre con la firma dell’intesa (21 dicembre). La ratifica finale del contratto avviene l’8 gennaio 1970. Si specifica che nel 1969 i metalmeccanici erano divisi fra pubblici (Intersind) e privati (Confindustria) e la firma dell’intesa del contratto delle aziende pubbliche avviene il 9 dicembre.

Αντικείμενο της Εργασίας ήταν η δημιουργία ενός ΢χεδιαστή Σαξιδιών Με Μέσα Μαζικής Μεταφοράς (Intermodal Journey Planner), που να απευθύνεται κατά κύριο λόγο στους επισκέπτες της πόλης. Για τον λόγο αυτό η σχετική εφαρμογή σχεδιάστηκε ώστε να είναι αρκετά απλή στην χρήση και να μπορεί να δίνει με λίγα βήματα και γρήγορα μια πολύ καλή καθοδήγηση, ενώ ως γλώσσα του περιβάλλοντος χρήσης επιλέχθηκε η Αγγλική. Η εφαρμογή παρέχεται μέσω ενός web interface και στηρίζεται σε open source λογισμικά. Η δημιουργία της στάθηκε ως πλαίσιο για την απόκτηση γνώσης σχετικά με την γλώσσα προγραμματισμού Java, την δημιουργία web sites και εφαρμογών, την πλοήγηση με χρήση γράφων, όπως επίσης και με την λογική της ανάπτυξης λογισμικού ανοικτού κώδικα και των μεθοδολογιών λειτουργίας μιας κοινότητας ανάπτυξης τέτοιου λογισμικού.
