For Immediate Release: Monday, April 3, 2017, 10:30 A.M. EDT GM For Immediate Release: Monday, April 3, 2017, 10:30 a.m. EDT GM Honours Suppliers for Innovation, Quality and Dedication 118 suppliers from 15 countries recognized for going the extra mile Nine Canadian suppliers honoured OSHAWA — General Motors recognized 118 of its best global suppliers during its 25th annual Supplier of the Year awards ceremony on March 31 in Orlando, Florida. GM recognized more suppliers this year than in any year since the first Supplier of the Year event. Automotive suppliers from 15 countries, including seven Canadian suppliers, received GM’s coveted Supplier of the Year award for going above and beyond GM’s requirements, providing customers with the most innovative technologies and the industry’s highest-quality vehicles. More than half of the suppliers were repeat winners from 2015, including global filter supplier Mann+Hummel, which received the exclusive Silver Anniversary Award for consistent performance. It has been named a Supplier of the Year 22 times in the program’s 25-year history. “We have the privilege to work with and recognize the industry’s most capable suppliers,” said Steve Kiefer, GM vice president, Global Purchasing and Supply Chain. “Through their valued partnership, we will continue to deliver the products, services and experiences our customers deserve.” In addition to naming its top suppliers, GM recognized AGM Automotive, LLC; Comau, LLC; LG Chem; LG Electronics, Inc.; Magna Exteriors; Means Industries; Multimatic; and Sam Shin Chemical Co. with the coveted Innovation Award for the following reasons: • AGM Automotive, LLC — implementing a hands-free liftgate with integrated logo lamp, featured on the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse • Comau, LLC — creating a flexible robotic body assembly framing system for Pre-Production Operations, improving future vehicle launch quality • LG Chem and LG Electronics, Inc. — integrating a 60-kWh lithium-ion battery pack in the award-winning Chevrolet Bolt EV • Magna Exteriors (Canada) — developing a multiaxial laser cutting and welding process on painted thermoplastic, enabling lighter weight design of the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 fascia • Means Industries — creating a selectable one-way clutch, resulting in more efficient packaging of the new Hydra-Matic nine-speed front-wheel-drive transmission • Multimatic (Canada) — enhancing the DSSV position sensitive spool valve damping technology for the first-ever application in an off-road truck, in the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 • Sam Shin Chemical Co. — developing an innovative material layering process with its 3-D fantastic grille on the Chevrolet Bolt EV GM also honored three companies — Aisin AW Co., Ltd.; ConForm; and Kautex — with its Overdrive Award. The award, first given in 2012, recognizes supply partners for extraordinary leadership in cultural change and commitment initiatives that drive exceptional business results for GM. The Supplier of the Year Overdrive and Innovation award winners were chosen by a global team of GM purchasing, engineering, quality, manufacturing, and logistics executives. While ASEAN is a prime example of intraregional production networks, supply chains that connect ASEAN and India have not been studied indepth. Therefore, this paper investigates the Indian automotive industry, which is composed of automobile original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and parts and components producers, and other supply chain connections to the neighbouring ASEAN region. This study is structured as follows. First, we will take a look at the historic development of the automotive industry in India, as it provides the context for the development of companies and their capabilities that are crucial determinants for their ability to join supply chains. The investigation will not 51 be limited to Indian firms because as case studies of the ASEAN region forcefully demonstrate, foreign OEMs and parts suppliers may use developing and emerging markets as specialised production bases of their global and regional supply chains.

November 2018 Foreign direct investments of emerging Asia in V4 countries: Host country determinants1 Katalin Völgyi2 Introduction In the last two decades, outward foreign direct investment of emerging (developing) economies became a widely researched topic among academics. Several emerging economies, such as China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and Russia etc., compete with the top traditional investors, like the USA, Japan and Western European countries, in terms of the size of annual FDI outflow. For the first time, in 2014, FDI outflow of developing Asia outpaced that of North America and Europe. This paper carves out a small part of this phenomenon, and focuses on foreign direct investments of six emerging Asian countries (e.g.

Since then, more than two decades have elapsed and the location of the event has been changed to the immense and representative new congress centre “darmstadtium”. After having received close to 1000 experts at ISAL 2017, it would be a great pleasure to welcome international designers, engi- neers, scientists and decision makers in automotive lighting industry at the ISAL 2019. A lot of research and development focuses on communication between automat- ed vehicles and other road users as well as on high resolution adaptive high beam to improve the visibility distance and general driving comfort for front lighting. Further research topics include adaptive rear lights to minimize dis- comfort and maximize road safety for following cars. In the meantime, new challenges for the automotive lighting community arise in the form of energy efficient lighting for purely electric vehicles and lighting design and functions for autonomous driving. ISAL 2019 will surely encourage the exchange between lighting engineers, road safety experts and regulative bodies.

  • Sector Update Utilization in China to Rebound Gradually
2015. 9. 16 Autos (OVERWEIGHT) Sector Update Utilization in China to rebound gradually * We visited China’s top automaker Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) and its parts-making affiliate Huayu Automotive Systems over Sep 1-2. * SAIC says inventory corrections in the Chinese auto market are winding down, retail sales recovered somewhat in August, and utilization will gradually recover from September. It predicts that China’s auto demand will grow 3-5% pa in coming years and that JV brands will struggle over the next couple of years as local brands excel in inland cities and the SUV segment. Although we believe Hyundai Motor (HMC) and Kia Motors will see utilization recover from September on price policy changes and car launches, they need to revise their longer-term strategies in light of the shifting competitive landscape. * With utilization at HMC and Kia’s Chinese plants bottoming, parts makers oversold due to concerns over China warrant attention. We like Mando and Hyundai Wia. WHAT’S THE STORY? Utilization bottoming out on inventory adjustments: Wholesale auto sales in China fell 2.6% y-y in June, the first such decline since the market opened up in the early 2000s. They fell again in July (6.4%) and August (3%) as carmakers adjusted inventories. With dealership inventories have fallen from 1.9 months in June to 1.6 months in August (vs normal levels of 1.5 months), further price and utilization cuts aimed at inventory adjustments look unlikely. Retail sales rebounded to grow 0.6% y-y in August and demand should gradually recover from September as seasonal strength kicks in.
