I HISTORY OF THE TWLARE-gINGS COUNTY THIS FAIR is held each September at Tul-, California, located on U. S. Highway 99, between San Francisco and LOS Anseles. The Tulare Chamber of Commerce omanized in 1919 what was known as the Tulare County and whlch was held on the property owned at that tune by the Tulare Livestock Association, consisting of one-half a city block of ground and valued at approximately one thousand dollars with buildings and improve- ments valued at twelve hundred dollars. The Livestock premium list for that year was about two thousand dollars. Two years later the Tulare Chamber of Com- merce acquued the above and additional real property, changed the name to the Tulare County Fair and started a building . Other real property was acquired from time to time, build- ings and equipment were added each year and in 1936 the Twenty-Fowth Agricultural District was organized, comprislns Tulare and Kings Counties, who leased the property from the Tu- lare Chamber of Commerce for a period of forty years and continued the xmprovements and ex- pansions until there was actually paid to exhiiit- ors of livestock and agricultural products fifteen thousand three hundred dollars in cash pre- miums in 1937. The organization of the district made it possible for the Tulare-Kings County Fair to partielpate in State appropriations of suf- ficient amount to take care of the premium list of all breeders of livestock, 4H Club and Future Farmer boys and agricultural exhibitors. The property today consists of fifty acres of real estate valued at thirty thousand dollars with buildings and equipment valued at sixty thou- sand dollars. At the present time arrangements are belng made tor the erection of a grandstand at a cost of around thirty thousand dollars, made possible by an allocation from an unappropriated surplus of the Horse Racing fund. The attendance has increased from eight thousand in 1921 to fifty thousand in 1937.
