[The committee met at 09:20.]

Ms. Lang: — Good morning, committee members. As you’re aware, we had a resignation as the committee Chair position. So as committee Clerk, it’s my duty at this first meeting to preside over the election of the Chair, and I will call for nominations for that position now. Mr. Trew.

Mr. Trew: — It is my honour to nominate Glenn Hagel to preside as Chair of the Standing Committee on Crown and Central Agencies.

Ms. Lang: — Any further nominations? Seeing no further nominations, I would invite one of the members to move that motion. Mr. Trew.

Mr. Trew: — I so move.

Ms. Lang: — It has been moved by Mr. Trew:

That Mr. Glenn Hagel be elected to preside as Chair of the Standing Committee on Crown and Central Agencies.

All those in favour of the motion? All those opposed? I declare the motion carried and invite Mr. Hagel to take the Chair.

The Chair: — Okay. First of all it would be in order to have a motion that a steering committee be appointed to establish an agenda and priority of business for subsequent meetings and that the membership . . . oh, I guess we do this one first . . . [inaudible interjection] . . . Okay, all right. Sorry. I was just kidding.

We have before us a motion moved by Mr. Thomson:

That the steering committee of the Standing Committee on Crown and Central Agencies steering committee be comprised of the Chair and the Deputy Chair.

Is there discussion . . . [inaudible interjection] . . . that’s right. I’ve seen better worded motions, but I think the intention is clear — a little redundant but therefore it’s not confusing. Is there any discussion? If not, those in favour? Opposed? That’s carried.

If someone would like to move a motion of adjournment, that would be in order. Mr. D’Autremont, move to adjourn. Those in favour? Meeting stands adjourned. Thanks for coming out.

[The committee adjourned at 09:22.]
