Executive Summary This report reflects on the Diplomacy Training Program (DTP) and Migrant Forum Asia’s (MFA) activities to build the capacity of advocates for the rights of migrant workers in Asia and the Middle East since 2004. Each year from 2004, DTP and MFA have organised human rights advocacy training programs for members of MFA networks and other individuals committed to promoting respect for the rights of migrant workers. What began as a shared idea and commitment, and a single program in 2004, has continued for 10 years and provided training for over 300 individuals working for migrant workers’ rights. DTP has commissioned this report to assess, and draw lessons from, the DTP/MFA collaboration on capacity building since 2004. The report draws on responses to a survey of alumni from these training programs, as well as interviews with some key stakeholders in Asia and in the Middle-East in international organisations. The surveys were conducted in early 2014. The report is an opportunity to reflect on what has worked and what has not – and to learn lessons that can be applied to future capacity building work. The report includes some recommendations. It is the first stage in a two stage reflection process for DTP and MFA. The second stage will be a workshop that will map future directions, based partly on the findings of this report. Purpose of the Partnership and Capacity Building Activities In 2004 DTP and MFA began collaborating on capacity building programs for civil society advocates focused on the human rights of migrant workers. DTP was in the process of reviewing thematic priorities for human rights capacity building in the Asia-Pacific region – to address new and emerging challenges. William Gois was recently appointed to the new role of Regional Coordinator of MFA, and was invited to present a session on the rights of migrant workers at DTP’s 14th Annual Regional Human Rights and Peoples’ Diplomacy Training Program held in Bangkok in January 2004. This was the first time DTP had included program content on these issues and the need for a dedicated capacity building program on the rights of migrant workers was discussed and agreed. The purpose was to contribute to efforts to ensure that the human rights of migrant workers and their families in, and from, Asia are properly respected, protected and fulfilled in accordance with recognised minimum international standards. The aim was also to use capacity building programs to connect advocates for migrant workers’ rights with the broader human rights movement, trade unions and national human rights institutions (NHRIs) and the women’s movement. For DTP this collaboration is consistent with its mission to contribute to building the knowledge, skills and networks of human rights movements in the Asia-Pacific Region. For MFA this work is consistent with its commitments to its membership and to its vision of a world where the rights of migrant workers are realised. Beneficiaries The intended beneficiaries of these programs are the millions of migrant workers and their families who would be affected if agreed minimum human rights standards were applied to labour migration policy and practice. The most immediate targets for training are civil society advocates who have a 3 commitment to the rights of migrant workers, and who are actively engaged in relevant work. Other targets have been those working for organisations with a direct role and mandate relevant to migrant workers that have the potential to make a strategic impact and that should be part of larger efforts to secure respect for the rights of migrant workers – particularly staff of NHRIs. Underlying Assumptions Migrant workers experience a wide range of harms and human rights abuses in countries of origin, transit and destination. These abuses have been extensively documented in the reports of major human rights organisations such as Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, the ILO and other UN agencies. Responding to these abuses, the approach taken by DTP/MFA makes a number of working assumptions: . That the abuses and harms would be eliminated if accepted international human rights and labour standards were universally and effectively applied to policy and practice affecting migrant workers – and progress towards implementation of these standards is likely to reduce

    CSR in Swedish football A multiple case study of four clubs in Allsvenskan By: Lina Nilsson 2018-10-09 Supervisors: Marcus Box, Lars Vigerland and Erik Borg Södertörn University | School of Social Sciences Master Thesis 30 Credits Business Administration | Spring term 2018 ABSTRACT The question of companies’ social responsibility taking, called Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), has been widely debated in research since the 1900s. However, the research connecting CSR to sport was not started until the beginning of the 2000s, meaning that there are still many gaps in sport research that has to be filled. One such gap is research on CSR in a Swedish football context. Accordingly, the purpose of the study was firstly to examine how and why Swedish football clubs – organised as non-profit associations or sports corporations – work with CSR, and secondly whether or not there was a difference in the CSR work of the two organisational forms. A multiple case study of four clubs in Allsvenskan was carried out, examining the CSR work – meaning the CSR concept and activities, the motives for engaging in CSR and the role of the stakeholders – in detail. In addition, the CSR actions of all clubs of Allsvenskan were briefly investigated. The findings of the study showed that the four clubs of the multiple case study had focused their CSR concepts in different directions and performed different activities. As a consequence, they had developed different competences and competitive advantages. Furthermore, the findings suggested that the motives for engaging in CSR were a social agenda, pressure from stakeholders and financial motives.

Executive Summary Regional During the reporting period, the Regional Office organized the first two Arab Civitas regional training workshops: a Project Citizen workshop in Cairo, Egypt, December 12-19, 2004 and a Foundations of Democracy workshop in Casablanca, Morocco January 11-19, 2005. In addition, the Board of Directors strengthened Arab Civitas’ international and inter-agency relationships by sending representatives to the Educating the Young for Active Citizenship workshop in Malaysia, the MEPI Student Leaders Conference in Tunisia, a Wilton Park Conference on building participatory governance in the Middle East, a Divided Societies Workshop in Northern Ireland on the use of civic education to address the problems of social conflict, and a childhood issues seminar in the United Arab Emirates. Within the nine Arab Civitas countries, activities ranged from fact-finding visits and in-country NGO establishment in the younger country programs to continued implementation of Project Citizen and Foundations of Democracy trainings in the more established programs.     SAUDI ARABIA 2019 INTERNATIONAL RELIGIOUS FREEDOM REPORT Executive Summary According to the 1992 Basic Law of Governance, the country’s official religion is Islam and the constitution is the Quran and Sunna (traditions and practices based on the life of the Prophet Muhammad). The legal system is based largely on sharia as interpreted by the Hanbali school of Sunni Islamic jurisprudence. Freedom of religion is not provided under the law. The government does not allow the public practice of any non-Muslim religion. The law criminalizes “anyone who challenges, either directly or indirectly, the religion or justice of the King or Crown Prince.” The law criminalizes “the promotion of atheistic ideologies in any form,” “any attempt to cast doubt on the fundamentals of Islam,” publications that “contradict the provisions of Islamic law,” and other acts including non-Islamic public worship, public display of non-Islamic religious symbols, conversion by a Muslim to another religion, and proselytizing by a non-Muslim. In January and May, police raided predominantly Shia villages in al-Qatif Governorate, stating the raids were carried out to arrest terrorist cells or preempt terrorist attacks. On November 13, rights groups announced that Hussein al-Ribh, a 38-year-old Shia activist who was in detention since 2017, died in Dammam Prison. Some Shia activists outside the country stated that authorities tortured al-Ribh while he was detained. In April the government executed 37 citizens for “terrorism crimes,” the largest mass execution since 2016. According to Human Rights Watch (HRW), at least 33 of the 37 were from the country’s minority Shia community and had been convicted following what they stated were unfair trials for various alleged crimes, including protest-related offenses.
