Dubstar* - San Francisco Dubstep, Reggae, Electro Glitch, Dub Breaks Hop DubStar* - San Francisco DubStep, Reggae, electro glitch, dub breaks hop Dubstar – aka Luke Moody first got his taste of electronic music during his sojourn down in Australia back in 1994. There he was exposed to talents such as Derrick May, Joey Beltram, Lenny D to name a few. Coming back to the states with a crate of hardcore techno vinyl and a burning desire to make people dance, Luke started dropping beats at house parties in Minneapolis. Taking his love for music and dancing further, Luke launched Hush Productions, to provide great underground music for dance parties. Hush Productions brought out amazing talent like Spun, Tim Deluxe, and Halo. After a series of very successful parties, Luke decided to open a San Francisco branch of Hush Productions to continue the good beats and great times. It was in San Francisco that Luke first started tapping into the west coast tribal, downtempo dub sounds, adding Kruder and Dorfmeister and Thievery Corporation to his track rotations. Luke moved to New York to continue his pursuit in finding the ultimate amalgamation of sound. Mid to west to east coast flavor. New York brought the reggae and dub sound to Luke’s mix, and also earned Luke his current moniker DJ Dubstar*. DJ DubStar* has rocked hot spots such as Cielo, APT, and Le Souk in New York, Shag Hollywood in LA, beach parties in Brazil, and mobile sound systems on the playa at Burningman. DubStar* is currently in San Francisco, and has pioneered the social sound experiment called Brothers Dub Collective. BDC has been rocking SF hot spots such as Project One Galleries, Mighty, and down in LA at the Downtown Standard Hotel – Roof Top Pool Party. Brothers Dub Collective ~ BDC A collective is a group of people who share or are motivated by at least one common issue or interest, or work together on a specific project(s) to achieve a common objective. "BDC" is a group of likeminded people into music, art, fashion, and enjoyment of life. About BDC ~ we're really big on integrating live music with dub heavy electronic bass sounds, and will be working to add musicians to the collective as we grow. Think young Thievery Corporation in training. The fundamentals of our music is dub, reggae and dubstep, but we openly embrace all good music, both new and old skool - so there will be samples of hip hop, glitch, breaks, jazz, electronica and rock that enter into our set. We are looking forward to sharing THE BDC EXPERIENCE with all of you! Here’s a list of his current favorite DJs Mochipet Anntenna Freq Nasty Bassnectar Dirty Hertz Daft Punk .

  • Il Breakbeat Errante Di Talvin Singh
Big Beat Boutique CUT LA ROC + FREQ NASTY sab.

It has some of the old favorites such as Azzido Da Bass - Dooms Night, as well as some of the later tracks such as Soul man - Killabrew, Cellar Jaxx - Where Your Head Is on, and Freq Nasty - Amped, which should be one of my favorites on the first CD. Mixing itself is very smooth and you can listen through the tracks. There were also a few surprises with Disc One, such as the addition of a new song by Yakatta So Lonely, which was a bit odd for Breaks CD. Disc 2 is a little different from Disc One. Titled Chillout Breaks, its exactly that. Jesse says in his interview (included in the interactive component on the CD) that disc two has a more Latin/Electro/Jazz/Ambient Feel to it. Also included on the CD is a really funky interactive component where you can learn more about the producers, labels and clubs that make up the break beats scene.
