Thecoronationceremony,anoccasionforpageantry and celebration, but it is also a solemn religious ceremony,hasremainedessentiallythesameovera thousandyears.Forthelast900years,theceremony hastakenplaceatWestminsterAbbey,London.The service is conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury;whosetaskthishasalmostalwaysbeen sincetheNormanConquestin1066.
