With around 90 days left in the Midwest driving season, I would like to remind anyone who is considering a new or pre-owned Lamborghini to stop by or give us a call – we can help make that dream car become your reality! While there are a few 2006 coupes for delivery, the Spyder has been extremely popular and consequently only one third of Gallardo production for 2007 will be coupes. Needless to say, the coupe will not be as easy to find! If you have still not had the chance to come by and see us yet, our spacious showroom in Troy comfortably holds nine cars, in addi- tion to the customer lounge. In the customer lounge, there are such perks as the 42" HD plasma screen with an X-Box 360 and Project Gotham Racing 3 frequently being played. Or, while your Lamborghini is being serviced in one of the eleven service bays, you can enjoy your favorite cappuccino or espresso at the 18' cappuc- cino bar. I am personally extending an invitation to all Michigan and other Midwest Lamborghini owners to visit Lamborghini Troy. This was the first year that Lamborghini presence beat that of Ferrari – making it quite a success! Many notable members of the Lamborghini staff, from both the factory and Lamborghini Technical services, were also present. Among those present were Valentino Balboni, Barbara Adamoli, Rene Sueltzer, James DelConte, and Jonathan Kirshtein. In addition, several Midwest Lamborghini owners and one Midwest dealership, Lamborghini Ohio, also made the trip, making a strong showing for the Lam- borghini marque. The weather remained beautiful for the duration of the Con- corso, giving all spectators an excellent opportunity to meet and greet with other owners and enthusiasts, along with hands-on viewing of several models of many Italian exotics. One of the best cars, easily the highlight of the show, was a perfectly- restored green Miura SV, which also took top honors in the Mid- Engine Lamborghini class. (See bottom left for a listing of winners in all classes) The driving event at Le Belle Macchine d'Italia, which was unfortu- nately rained out this year, is a private event for owners, club members & invited guests only. The track at Pocono Interna- tional Raceway features a 2.5 mile road course with 8 turns: two "S" style turns, a 170 degree hairpin, and two 3,000 + ft. straights joined by a 16-degree banked turn providing the opportunity to drive one of the foremost super speedways in the country. All track eligible cars must pass an extensive tech inspection per- formed by technical experts from each marque. Needless to say, the 20th anniversary of Le Belle Macchine d'Italia lived up to everyone’s expectations.     1969 Lamborghini Miura S Chassis number 3961 Ferruccio Lamborghini had hired two young and very talented engineers to create his cars and complement the marvellous V12 engine of Bizzarrini. With the early success of the 350 GT and 400 GT he now gave the promising skills of Giampaolo Dollara and Giampaolo Stanzani their head. Taking their inspiration from two-seater sports racing cars rather than from Grand Tourers, the two young men (Dallara at the time was just 28) created in essence a road-going race car. They took the initial innovative step in sitting the four-litre V12 Lamborghini 400 GT engine transversely mounted behind the driver. The chassis needed to be strong but light and to do this they made it out of bent welded sheet metal that had been drilled with holes. Ferruccio approved the project without a moment’s hesitation and the chassis was hurriedly completed to be exhibited at the October 1965 Turin Motor Show. All it needed now was a body. Nuccio Bertone, Head of the radical thinking Carrozzeria Bertone based in Turin, saw the concept and volunteered to build the body to sit on the revolutionary chassis. A wonderful relationship between Lamborghini and Bertone, and the Miura was born. Bertone turned to 26 year old Marcello Gandini, an interior designer, and his first project for the Carrozzeria was to interpret and fulfil his new boss’s vision. It was the clarity of thinking, unfettered by tradition, that led Gandini and Bertone to create the Miura November 1968 saw the arrival of the Miura S.

    Valentino Balboni Valentino Balboni est certainement l’un des experts Lamborghini les plus incontestables à travers le monde. Valentino has experienced a life well lived and it has been excellently documented in both detail and warmth here. While I have never met him, I did for a while have a Gallardo with his autograph on the engine bay. In that car, I felt surrounded by legend, luxury, and power.

    The Lamborghini tamer. From Bob Wallace to Giorgio Sanna via Valentino Balboni: how the work of the test driver has changed over the last 50 years at the House of the Bull. There is no shadow of a doubt that, in the collective imagination, being a “Lamborghini tamer” is one of the world’s most appealing jobs. It isn’t just a question of passing the time driving great cars, but also of helping create them alongside their designers, working with them to develop the immediately identifiable features that have kept the flag of the “House of the Bull” flying high for the last 50 years. Giorgio Sanna arrived in Sant’Agata Bolognese in 2001 as one of the leading members, with Mario Fasanetto, of the House of the Bull’s test team. That same year the new position of test driver was created. Directly involved in the car development process, the test drivers of the new millennium have the task of documenting their driving experience to provide prompt feedback for the engineers involved in the development of prototypes. This requires experience, great skill and the ability to follow test programmes and report on their outcome with precision. The great test drivers of the past weren’t involved in R&D and today it really does seem like such a long time ago when Bob Wallace and Valentino Balboni, in addition to their technical duties, often acted as “driving instructors” for customers anxious to learn about the handling secrets of the magnificent supercars they were in the process of buying.

The “superlight” vehicle features updated technologies and materials from its predecessor, the Gallardo Superleggera, which was introduced in 2007 and sold an impressive 618 units in its first year. The LP 570-4 Superleggera features a V10 5.2-liter engine that generates 570 horsepower. With a power-to-weight ratio of only 5.18 lbs-per-hp, the Superleggera dashes from zero to 62 miles per hour in just 3.4 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 202 mph.
