Gladiator Project Due: / /

This project will consist of three parts which will be explained below. This assignment will be worth a total of 125 points.

The first part of the project will be a power-point presentation. The second part will be the brown paper bag activity. Part three will be you making something associated with these events.

1. You will imagine yourself in ancient . The emperor has declared a public holiday and ordered gladiator games to take place in the .

2. You will use the Internet and print resources to research the gladiator games and the Roman Colosseum.

3. You will research different styles of gladiator, lanista, emperors, spectators, or items related to the .

4. This will all be discussed in detail in class

5. We will have lab days in class when you can work on your research and the power-point presentation. December 12th, 15th, 19th and January 4th and 6th

Brown Bag Assignment (25 points)

Objective: to have the students begin presentations and create a comfortable classroom environment through self-disclosure

Assignment: Each student will need a brown bag in class. Students are to fill the bag with a minimum of five items that describe their individual Roman. Students can choose items that relate to their specific Roman class, the gladiator games, Roman life, etc. Students can use a larger bag if they want to incorporate larger items. Students will be the given the assignment due date in class. On the assignment day, students will bring the bag filled with their items and give an informal speech in front of the class showing and describing the items in their bag. This will be a completion grade – students that present five items that are relevant to the Roman Empire or Gladiator games.

Item Of Choice (50 Points) You will choose one of the following to do:

1) Detailed drawing or build a model of one of the following: a) Colosseum b) Gladiator weapon or Armor. You will tell me:  What type of weapon or armor it is.  What type of gladiator used the item  Any other important details of the armor or weapon OR 2) Make two detailed posters promoting the gladiatorial games. You must name two gladiators fighting in each event.  Must be poster board size  Must be an advertisement . Catches the eye, colorful neat and detailed. . Includes drawings of the gladiators

Power Point Presentation (50 Points)

 This presentation will be made up of 6 slides. (title Slide, 4 information slides, Conclusion slide)  This will all be done using Google so that they can be shared with Mr. Mac and opened in class.  You will be given 5 days in the lab to work on this assignment as a whole. (Use your time wisely!)

These will be the only days available to us as a class to use the computer lab!

You are welcome to use the computers in my classroom during study hall, before or after school, as well as those computers in the library also.

All other work will need to be done on your own personal computers at home.

DO NOT WAIT TILL THE LAST SECOND TO START THIS PROJECT!!!!!!

POINTS WILL BE DEDUCTED FOR LATE WORK!!!!!!!!!!

IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE ABSENT, MAKE SURE YOU TURN IN AHEAD OF TIME OR HAVE SOMEONE BRING IT INTO SCHOOL FOR YOU. NO EXCUSES!
