FROM OUR PRINCIPAL:

Dear Parents,

What a great start to the school year! We are excited to have students back in our classrooms and excited and ready for learning. We encourage parents to attend our OPEN HOUSE on Thursday, September 12th. This evening is an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and get an overview of what to expect during the year. Parents will have an opportunity to sign up for individual student conferences. This evening is for parents/guardians only. There is NO onsite child care available. Please see the schedule below:

5:30-6:00 p.m. ALP 6:00-6:30 p.m. K & 5 6:40-7:10 p.m. 1 & 3 7:20-7:50 p.m. 2 & 4

Specialist teachers for ESL, Special Education, Literacy, Art, Music, P.E. and Media will be available to visit at any time from 6:15-7:30 p.m. A list of staff and rooms is attached. We look forward to seeing you there.

A few reminders. Drop off is only allowed in the back circle where parents can enter the circle and drop their child off to a staff member. The ONLY exceptions to morning drop off in the front circle are for those students attending the PTA Early Bird Program, Band, Orchestra & Chorus rehearsal. Parents should park in the municipal parking lot behind the fire house/Cos Cob library and walk their child to the front door for arrival. Now that we are going into our second week of school, parents are asked to just drop students off at the front door and allow them to walk independently to their classrooms.

Please DO NOT pull in the back circle at dismissal. Please park and walk to the back to pick up your child. It is extremely dangerous for cars to be in the back circle when students are walking home and parents are picking up.

If you have not already done so, please be sure to fill out the following forms and return to your child's teacher. Publicity Release, Handbook Acknowledgement, and the Permission for treatment (medical) form. These forms are available on the Cos Cob School website or in the office.

Thank you to the PTA for our welcome back coffee. It was great to see new and returning parents enjoying some time to catch up and sign up to be volunteers. I want to give a special shout out to Mrs. Wells and her student crew and the Caseys for sprucing up our courtyard. It is thanks to them it looked so good on the first day of school.

For everyone’s safety and in compliance with Town of Greenwich Municipal Code, DOGS (even if leashed) are not permitted on school grounds during drop-off or pick up.

FROM THE PTA:

Parents are invited to submit their first day of school pictures or any special event/field trip pictures they take during the school year to [email protected] for the yearbook.

Cos Cob School Open House – evening of Thursday, September 12.

Picture Day – Monday, September 16th.

Alice in Wonderland Performance – September 23rd -- K-2 9:00-9:45 a.m., 3-5 10:00-11:00 a.m.

Band/Strings Parent Information Session/Coffee – September 27th -- 8:30-9:00 a.m. in the music room. Parents of students playing an instrument are encouraged to attend.

Rosh Hashanah – September 30th – NO SCHOOL

FROM THE COMMUNITY:

Green & Clean TOWN-WIDE Fall Cleanup – Saturday, September 21st. Stop at the Cos Cob Firehouse from 8:00 a.m.-noon for: community service certificates, litter bags, gloves & refreshments. Trade in trash for daffodil bulbs!

DART TO THE FINISH – Saturday, 5, 2019 -- Gather your friends and family and join us for an invigorating walk around beautiful Tod’s Point in Old Greenwich, and help us raise much needed funds to find a cure for Neimann-Pick type C. Register now at www.danasangels.org
