We are all aware that getting work experience is a huge challenge for aspiring medics and this has been largely compounded by COVID. We are therefore delighted to have a genuinely brilliant solution. We have partnered up with Kissing It Better, a leading charity who have been recognised by NHS England and the BMA. They have recently been featured heavily on the news for their excellent work in supporting older, isolated people in Care Homes. Through our joint programme, we are giving students the opportunity to connect with these people through Zoom coordinated sessions to build up the key skills they will need during their medical training and career, while also importantly supporting a vulnerable demographic. Alongside the live Zoom calls, there is a suite of learning modules to help students get the most out of this unique volunteering opportunity. This programme has already been joined by over 500 students and has received amazing feedback. The programme runs in different countries and live Zoom sessions will be taking place to accommodate for global time zones. PLEASE SHARE THIS LINK with your students so they can book on to the programme. __________________________________________________________________________________ Work Experience Opportunities Psychology Work Experience Learn more Deadline: 26th July 2021 Law Work Experience Learn more Deadline: 26th July 2021 Siemens Work Experience Learn more Deadline: 26th July 2021 Marsh & McLennan Dates: 2nd August Eligibility: 16-18 year olds Application Deadline: 23rd July http://www.s4snextgen.org/Opportunities/View/id/1963 Royal Air Force Date: 23rd August Eligibility:14 - 19 year olds Application deadline: 23rd July http://www.s4snextgen.org/Opportunities/View/id/1482 __________________________________________________________________________________ Free Summer Virtual Careers Festival from Deloitte Deloitte is hosting a series of skills workshops which include inspiring, live and interactive events to help students to make informed career decisions. Calendar 26-30/10 – Half Term News Edition 143 30/11/15 – INSET Day Monday 5h October 2015 Welcome to Edition 143 Dear All It has been a busy start to the school year for our students. Year 11 have participated in a careers fair which enabled them to find out more information about the choices open to them next September; there is further information about open evenings for colleges later in the newsletter. On the sporting field, the Year 8 Rugby team have had a very successful start to the year, with a resounding 47-19 victory over Honywood and Year 11 continued this success off the field, winning the Gosfield Enterprise challenge. Over the last two weeks we have hosted a variety of events for the parents of Year 6 students, including visits to primary schools. The feedback from all of these events has been extremely complimentary about the behaviour and attitude of our students. Thank you to all those students who have helped at one of these events. As the weather begins to turn, can I ask that you encourage your son or daughter to bring their coat with them on rainy days, and store them in their lockers, as this will help ensure they arrive at school ready to learn. Kind regards Elizabeth Robinson Headteacher Open Events Tabor Academy recently held several open events for the local community. Firstly, our annual Open Evening, opening our doors to existing and prospective families. It was a fantastic opportunity for the parents of our prospective Year 6 students to see the school in action and the amazing opportunities we have to offer.

T Moving on...y ra a n w s h ition Pat Fact Sheet 2 Education, Employment and Volunteering All young people need to consider their post 16 options, including further education or employment to volunteering opportunities. For young people with a Statement of Special Educational Needs they should start planning their post 16 opportunities during their Transition Reviews. Education Staying on at school When your son or daughter turns 16 they have a number of options including staying on at school, staying on at sixth form or going to college. There are a number of special schools in Essex that have further education departments where young people can continue their learning until Year 14, when they reach 19 years. Staying on at school is not for everyone and your son or daughter needs to think carefully and make sure it’s the right path for them. You will also need to find out the entry criteria for your school’s further education department as the criteria varies from school to school. It is very important that your son or daughter includes their plans in their Transition planning and discusses them with their SENCAN Locality Case Work Manager, Personal Adviser, school and social services (if applicable).
