Juni 1999 Feinverbreitung, Ökologie und Gesellschaftsanschluß reliktischer Gefäßpflanzen der Niederen Tauern östlich des Sölkpasses (Steiermark, Osterreich) GERALD M. SCHNEEWEISS & PETER SCHÖNSWETTER Abstract: Fine scale distribution, ecology and phytosociology of relictic vascular plant taxa in the Niedere Tauern east of Sölkpass (Austria, Steiermark). The eastern parts of the Niedere Tauern (i. e. Wölzer, Rottenmanner and Triebener Tauern and Seckauer Alpen) are characterized by an accumulation of relictic and disjunctly distri- buted species. Therefore the area has gained the interest of many botanists over the deca- des. Nevertheless, distribution and ecology of most of these species is rather poorly known due to the fact that most collectors just visited the few botanically famous mountains in this region, e. g. Seckauer Zinken (Seckauer Alpen) or Hohenwart (Wölzer Tauern). This inve- stigation tries to fill the gaps in the knowledge about distribution, ecology and phytosocio- logical behavior of some of these species. The following species are investigated: Androsace wulfeniana, Anthemis carpatica, Arabis sudetica, Carex foetida, C. norvegica, C. vaginata, Cerastium eriophorum, Cochlearia ex- celsa, Gentiana frigida, Pedicularis oederi, Primula villosa, Ranunculus crenatus, Saxifra- ga carpatica, S. hieraciifolia, S. retusa, Tephroseris capitata, Thalictrum alpinum and Viola lutea subsp. sudetica. For some of the species numerous new localities were found. In some cases old records could be verified. The distribution of each species in the investigated area is shown on a map(c. 1:300000). Ecology and phytosociological behavior of each species are documented in more than 200 relev^s. There is strong evidence that some syntaxa previously not known from the Austri- an Alps occur at least in the eastern parts of the Central Alps (e. g. Silenetum noricae, Dryado-Salicetum reticulatae). Some of the investigated taxa are very stenoecious (e. g. Cochlearia excelsa, Carex foeti- da), while others are euryoecious and inhabit many different plant communities (e. g. Tha- lictrum alpinum, Cerastium eriophorum, Pedicularis oederi). The synthesis of distributional and phytosociological data shows that the recent distribution of the investigated taxa is highly determined by the fact that in the last glacial period (Wiirm) the easternmost parts of the Niedere Tauern (Seckauer Alpen, Triebener Tauern and the southeastern parts of the Wölzer Tauern) were situated outside the ice shield, and only locally glaciated. Therefore at least some of the species are supposed to have survived the last ice age in this refugial area or nearby. This has to be the explanation for the restric- tion of species with such different habitats as northexposed wet rocks {Cochlearia excelsa) versus southexposed dry and steep grass communities {Anthemis carpatica) to the same area (Seckauer Alpen). On a more detailed scale the pattern of distribution can be ex- plained by the ecology of the species (e. g. the lack of basiphilic species in the south- westernmost parts of Rottenmanner Tauem). Aconitum in the Eastern Carpathians — preliminary results Abstract: Results of critical systematic studies on Aconitum subgen. Aconilum in the Eastern Carpathians are presented. The subgenus studied consists of 6 species: A. bucovinense, A. degenii (=A. paniculatum auct.), A. Jirmum, A. lasiocarpum, A. toxicum, A. variegatum, 6 nothospecies, and including infraspecific taxa and hybrids, a total of 22 taxa. All taxa are described and a key to their determination is given. (Mitka 2001; Starmiihler, Mitka 2001). Karpaty Południowe, pomimo znacz nego w ostatnich latach postępu badań (Starmiihler 2000), w dalszym ciągu cze kają na krytyczne opracowanie.

It attains its NW geographical range in two peripheral populations in the Western Bieszczady Mountains (Polish Eastern Carpathians), isolated by a distance of 13.1 km. PCR-ISSR analysis has been used to elucidate the within- and among-populational levels of species genetic diversity. A UPGMA and block clustering showed discreteness of the populations and subpopulations based on ISSR banding pattern. Analysis of Molecular Variance (AMOVA) revealed significant divergence (P = 0.024) of the two marginal populations and highly significant (P < 0.001) differentiation of subpopulations within populations. The theta index calculated for the two marginal populations and the core population in the Carpathians was 0.131 ±0.030 S.D. Most of the population-genetic diversity indices of the mar- ginal populations were not different from those in the core area but the Shannon’s and rarity indices were lower in the marginal populations.

(Ranunculaceae) at the range margin Piotr Boroń1, Joanna Zalewska-Gałosz1, Agnieszka Sutkowska2, Bogdan Zemanek1, Józef Mitka1* 1 Institute of Botany, Jagiellonian University, Kopernika 27, 31-501 Kraków, Poland 2 Department of Plant Breeding and Seed Science, Agricultural University, Łobzowska 24, 31-140 Kraków, Poland Abstract Aconitum bucovinense, a high-mountain species endemic to the Eastern and Southern Carpathians, including the Apuseni Mountains, is legally protected and classified in the Polish Red Data Book of Plants.

Ranunculaceae subtrib. Delphiniinae exsiccatae is the first successor of the phanerogamous part of Plantae Graecenses. Ranunculaceae subtrib. Delphiniinae exsiccatae Fasc. 1 is distributed to 6 institutions all over the world (LE, M, NY, PE, TI, W), one set remains in GZU and one in the private herbarium STARMÜHLER. In the first fascicle, 20 collections of the genera Aconitum and Delphinium from Austria, Italy, Liechtenstein, Romania, Slovenia and Switzerland are distributed. It includes the holo-type and iso-types of Aconitum degenii subsp. rhaeticum subsp. nov., which is described in this article.

  • Aconite: a Pharmacological Update
Mukesh Kr. Singh et al., (2012) Int. J. Res. Pharm. Sci., 3(2), 242-246 ISSN: 0975-7538 Review Article www.ijrps.pharmascope.org Aconite: A pharmacological update Mukesh Kr. Singh*, Minu Vinod, Shiv Kr. Iyer, Gaurav Khare, Gotmi Sharwan, Yogesh Kr. Larokar Rungta College of Pharmaceutical Sciences & Research, Kohka Road, Kurud, Bhilai-491024, India ABSTRACT Aconitine (Queen of Poisons) and related alkaloids found in the Aconitum species are highly toxic cardiotoxins and neurotoxins. Aconite is a herbaceous perennial plant, chiefly native of the northern hemisphere, growing in mois- ture retentive but well-draining soils of the mountain meadows. At present, more than 120 species of the plant have been found. Severe aconite poisoning occurs after accidental ingestion of the wild plant or consumption of an herbal decoction made from aconite roots. This review paper discusses some of the pharmacological activities of the aconite plant and its chief constituent aconitine. The effect of KB-R7943, the sodium-calcium exchange (NCX) blocker, on aconitine-induced arrhythmias in Guinea pigs using the ECG recordings suppressed abnormal electrical activity, but SEA did not show such effects. Aconitine also mediates the phosphorylation status of Cx43 and PKCα in the cultured ventricular myocytes of neonatal rats. These reports collected are very encouraging and indicate that the plant should be studied more expensively for its therapeutic benefits. Keywords: Aconite; Aconitine; Anti-inflammatory; Arrhythmia; Phosphorylation; Poisoning INTRODUCTION Oral doses as low as 1.5–6 mg aconitine was reported to be lethal in humans (en.wikipedia.org, 2011). Aconitum, known as aconite, monkshood, wolfsbane, leopard's bane, women's bane, Devil's helmet or blue TAXONOMY (www.zipcodezoo.com, 2011) rocket, is a genus of over 250 species of flowering Domain: Eukaryotae plants belonging to the buttercup family, Ranuncula- ceae.
