WRAP UP Lyons Club: Katie Lyons wrapped up a solid basketball career All-GLVC in 2010-11. As the Hounds’ lone Katie Lyons, 3rd team senior, Lyons became UIndy’s only All-GLVC Tournament Team all-conference honoree, picking up Heather Gonser Kristin Turner her first-ever all-league nod as an All-GLVC Third Team member.

Academic All-GLVC Kaleigh Andrews Tall Order: After the departure of LeAnn Freeland following the Megan Birchmeier 2010-11 campaign, UIndy named former Greyhound assistant Katy McIntosh Rose Savela Constantin Popa as the new head coach of its women’s basketball Shelby Wall program. The seven-foot-three Popa moves into his first collegiate Eliza Wortman head job after spending the previous four years as Freeland’s top assistant.

A native of Bucharest, Romania, Popa helped the Hounds to 89 wins and three NCAA Tournament berths since his arrival on cam- pus, including a “Sweet 16” appearance in 2009.

It’s A Marathon, Not A Sprint: Though it took every bit of 55 minutes to decide, Indianapolis came out on top in a 101-100, tri- ple-overtime battle at division-rival Southern Indiana Jan. 22. The game featured a number of significant accomplishments, some of which are listed below. - Longest game in UIndy women’s basketball history - The 201 combined points represented the highest-ever total in program history, breaking the old mark of 196 set in 1989, which also came at USI. - The Greyhounds’ 45 made free throws set a new all-time pro- gram and GLVC benchmark. Sophomore Kristin Turner and freshman Katy McIntosh combined to go 21-for-22 (.955) from the stripe in the three overtime periods. - Senior Katie Lyons set a personal best by scoring 32 points, good for the highest point total by a Greyhound this season.

Going Streakin’: Two Hounds compiled double-digit hit streaks this season, as Kaleb Cunningham and Scott Lawley each managed 10 straight games with a base hit. After go- ing without a hit in the season opener, Cunningham ran off 10 consecutive games with at least one hit. He went an impres- sive 26-for-43 in that span to push his batting average to .565, good for the best in Division II baseball at the time.

Lawley’s streak came later in the season against mostly GLVC opponents. In his 10-gamer, he raised his batting average over 100 points from Apr. 3-12, and after a one-game hiccup, finished with a hit in 14 of 15 contests.
