These teams could look for answers in some surprising case studies of successful NBA teams that have employed more equitable distribution of their total payroll among their players. As a more equitable system makes sense on teams that lack superstars to command max contracts, the question becomes: is it worth it in the absence of a max player or max players to distribute payroll more equitably, or is it more prudent to throw greater amounts of money at more talented available players, building a team in a more traditional way?
