Bellarmine University’s men’s basketball team looks to go to new with Kendle, a 2nd team All-GLVC selection from a year ago, at the heights in the 2010-11 season. The Knights look to have plenty of fire power going into the season There will be lots of experience in the post this season as the Knights have a one-two punch of Senior Nick Holmes and Junior Luke Sprague. Holmes was slowed down last year by complications from pneumonia but is back and healthy now. Sprague gives the Knights a big body on defense that can step out and knock down perimeter shots. Aaron Robison will look to back the two up along with freshman Hayden Simon and Tony Hamann. Bellarmine could add up to four members to the 1,000 point club this year as Benedetti, Hobbs, Kendle, and Sprague are all within proximity to join the prestigious club. The Knights will be tested early and often as they will play a challenging schedule during the season. The Knights will play 14 games in the friendly confines of Knights Hall starting with a Nov. 4 exhibition contest against Kentucky State. The Knights will also travel to Xavier University in Cincinnati for a Nov. 6 contest to wrap up the exhibition season. The regular season will begin on Nov. 21 when the Knights will take on Wayne State. Also on the nonconference slate will be three regular season tournaments, the John Dickensheet Classic on Nov. 21-22 in Institute, W.V., the Bellarmine Invitational on Dec. 10-11, and the Bill Joergens Memorial Tournament in Evansville, Ind. on Dec. 29-30. Bellarmine will also take on King College on Dec. 18 in their last nonconference game. The GLVC season will kick off early as they travel to Owensboro on Dec. 2 to face reigning GLVC regular season champion Kentucky Wesleyan. Two days later they travel to Evansville, Ind. to go up against rival Southern Indiana. The rest of the GLVC schedule will happen after the New Year and highlighted by games at Saint Joseph’s (1/15), at Indianapolis (1/17), and home games against Northern Kentucky(1/20), Quincy (1/29), Southern Indiana (2/17), and Kentucky Wesleyan (2/19).
