LeRoy led the Pioneers to their 24th overall NCAA Championship in 2018 and sixth in his tenure. Alpine skier have registered 19 individual National Championships during his 13 appearances. Denver has had ve athletes go on to be Olympians and 106 All-Americans coached by LeRoy. He was named Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association Coach of the Year for alpine in each of his rst three seasons at Denver. From 2003-06, LeRoy served as alpine coach for the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, where he was named the Rocky Mountain Regional Coach of the Year in 2005 and Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club Coach of the Year in 2006. Before moving to Steamboat to coach at the club level, LeRoy served as an assistant at the University of Colorado from 2001-02, helping the Buff s to a second-place nish at the 2001 and third-place nish at the 2002 NCAA National Championships. A former alpine skier at CU, LeRoy was a First Team All-American and individual national champion in the slalom at the 2000 NCAA National Championships and named CU Athlete of the Year that same year. LeRoy was a member of the U.S. Ski Team from 1993-99 and was on the 1998 U.S. Winter Olympic team that competed in Nagano, Japan. He won the North American Cup Slalom title in 1999. He also holds the British National Slalom Championship from 1997. LeRoy is happily married with two children. TWITTER: @DU_SKIING | INSTAGRAM: DU_SKIING UNIVERSITY OF DENVER SKIING - HOME TO 24 NATIONAL CHAPMIONSHIPS Tyler Shepherd Eighth Season • Colorado (2005) Tyler Shepherd joined the Pioneers coaching staff as an assistant in the summer of 2012 and enters his eighth season in 2020. In 2018, he was named the Alpine Coach of the Year by RMISA. He helped the Pioneers capture their 24th NCAA title in 2018. Overall, he has helped the University of Denver to three NCAA Championships and eight top- ve nishes. Shepherd has coached 11 individual National Champions, 64 All-Americans, and ve olympians. Prior to coming to Denver, Shepherd served as the alpine head coach at the University of New Mexico. His coaching career started off in 2007 as the ski cross head coach for the United States Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA). Shepherd led the team in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver in 2010. The USSA dropped the ski cross program, allowing Shepherd to return to the NCAA, taking the alpine head coaching position at UNM in the fall of 2010. Shepherd, a member of the U.S. National Team from 1998-2001, skied collegiately at University of Colorado from 2001-03. In 2002 he raced to First Team All-American honors in the slalom. Shepherd continued skiing after graduation in the skiercross, competing in the X-Games and on the World Cup circuit. Shepherd received his B.S. in Advertising in 2005 from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Colorado. A former professional Nordic ski racer, Brown joins the staff as an assistant coach after spending the last 13 months in Bozeman, Montana, working both as a head coach of the elite and postgraduate Nordic team with the Bridger Ski Foundation. Edward Washburn: I was one of four managing assistant directors under the managing director, Mr. H.D. Thoreau. My responsibilities were everything that nobody else had. They turned out to be myriad and diverse, to say the least. Max Dunn was an assistant managing director in charge of all skiing and skating events. This included supervision of the building of the ice rink, the outdoor skating rink, laying out all of the courses, getting the judges, doing all that. That occupied Max pretty fully. He couldn't do much of anything else. Bob Ewen was the personnel manager. He had change of all the hiring, firing, paying and all the rest of all the personnel on the staff, which proved to be a number of hundreds -- I don't remember how many, but there were many -- and also, seeing that the facilities were appropriate and the rest of it, in Squaw Valley. So that took care of Mr. Ewen. Al Ewen his name was [ed. note: The official report lists Robert Search as personnel director and Al Ewen as assistant general manager].

About two and half years later, on November 7, 1972, Colorado citizens voted by a three to two margin to make it a violation of Colorado’s constitution for state funds to be allocated toward the event. Colorado politicians and business leaders had spent years planning, campaigning, and traveling the globe to earn the right to host the winter sports festival. Nevertheless, with funding suddenly inaccessible, Denver’s Olympic planners were forced to rescind their invitation to “the youth of the world,” as Olympic hosts traditionally declared every four years. This dissertation delves into the political controversies surrounding the 1976 Denver winter Olympic games. Colorado’s decision to banish the Olympics was the product of a change in how Coloradans viewed economic growth, combined with broadened understandings of the political power of citizenship.

    Skiing NATIONAL COLLEGIATE MEN’S AND WOMEN’S Highlights Colorado wins 17th skiing crown; Buff s ice wire-to-wire win in rugged slalom conditions: In a dominant wire-to-wire win, Colorado locked up its 17th NCAA skiing title at Stowe Mountain Resort in Stowe, Vt. It’s the sixth NCAA crown the Buff s have secured during head coach Richard Rokos’ 20-year tenure, and their fi rst since 2006. Excited to once again be out from under the runner-up status it has achieved each of the past three years, Rokos noted the diff erence between winning and second is often just a bit of luck. “We came here to win, and that’s the same goal that we have every time we come to the championships,” Rokos said. “The diff erence this year is that we were able to stay healthy and all our alpine skiers fi nished both races -- most of them cleanly. You have to get lucky, you know, no matter how well you’re prepared.” The Buff s tallied an impressive 831 points throughout these championships, 80.5 points better than runner-up Utah, and 188 points ahead of third-place Dartmouth. Colorado rocketed to a commanding 46-point lead on the fi rst day of races March 9, nearly doubled it to 84.5 on March 11, and -- though relinquishing a sliver of that margin -- coolly secured the title with solid fi nishes by its alpine squads in diffi cult conditions at the slalom races March 12. After tons of snow, then rain, then more snow during the week, it was destined to be a bumpy ride on Stowe’s Mainstreet track, and there was indeed carnage in both men’s and women’s races.

The short-lived Maine bid to host the 1976 Winter Olympics envisioned alpine ski events at a proposed new ski resort on the north slope of Mount Bigelow that would front on the shore of Flagstaff Lake. The 2,703-foot Bigelow downhill course that was selected by Sno-engineering would have exceeded the 800 meter vertical drop required by FIS, a dimension that could not be matched elsewhere in New England. Gripton 2006 ABSTRACT This thesis examines the nature of amenity migration, its effects and related planning strategies and practices through a case study of the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) and surrounding environs. The goal of this study is to provide a descriptive overview of amenity migration in relation to the RMOW and region, primarily from the perspectives of selected key stakeholders as well as documentation from several RMOW and regional sources. For some time, the RMOW has been known as a world class destination resort and a progressive leader in various aspects of planning and sustainability. Interviews with sixteen key stakeholders revealed a range of familiarity with the concept of amenity migration and considerable knowledge about economic, social and environmental consequences. The concept of amenity migration was not used in RMOW and regional planning strategies and practices, raising some question about its conceptualization. A major effect of amenity migration was the lack of affordable housing, with subsequent local and regional effects. Significant planning measures perceived as effective included the Whistler Housing Authority, Vision 2020 and a regional growth strategy, currently under development. The study identifies the importance of a regional framework for strategic planning and the need for more research, in particular, to enable mountain communities to track their amenity migrants.

This movement was also promoted in a journal called The Independent which was edited by Washington Gladden. A major source for the history of this movement was the autobiography of Shailer Matthews, titled New Faith for Old, and other adherents of this movement included Richard Ely and Charles Sheldon. After a 1908 conference, this movement launched the (*) Men and Religion Forward campaign. Strongly critiqued by Paul Tillich and Reinhold Niebuhr, this movement was promoted in works like Christianity and the Social Crisis by Walter Rauschenbusch.
