Fair Holme has undergone the most detailed refurbishment program over the past few years with the work having been carried out to an excellent standard. The works have included the virtual replacement of the roof, together with the refurbishment of the gables and all of the stone work and chimney stacks and pots many of which are original and were made by Crigglestone Fireclay works of Wakefield. Internally the property has been completely rewired and the central heating replaced, including the use of Myson convector heaters which improve the efficiency of the central heating.

There is a good size custom made painted kitchen with large island unit with hardwood worktop and numerous wall and floor mounted cupboards many of which have lighting, there are two matching dressers all have black granite worktops. The utility room has also been fitted out with a range of units with a cream granite worktop. The flooring in both rooms as well as the family room is travertine.

Throughout the house there is wealth of character, from the vaulted reception rooms, tiled entrance hall, Oriel window over the main entrance, galleried staircase and dramatic vaulted bedrooms to but mentioned just a few. It is certainly rare to find a house of this age so well maintained and retaining so many of it’s original features, yet it offers exceptional accommodation for the modern family with flexible living spaces and an open plan kitchen/breakfast/family room not to mention the five well proportioned bedrooms.

The Property

Fair Holme is a magnificent Grade II listed Victorian Gothic Villa designed by architect Joseph Sykes for Mary Shearburn in 1848. Fair Holme is a house of stature and boasts 14 original chimney pots by the Crigglestone Fireclay Works of Wakefield. The property has been carefully maintained over the last 10 years to preserve its character and provides luxuriously finished family living space, with many of the exquisite original features having been retained.

A spacious custom made hand painted family dining kitchen which flows into a family room provides a practical and comfortable living space. The kitchen is thoughtfully fitted with modern facilities skilfully placed within the hand painted cabinets. The whole family living area is linked by a travertine floor. The adjoining utility room and separate WC are fitted with solid oak handmade storage cupboards and granite worktops. At the front of the house the comfortable drawing room overlooks the front lawn through full height French doors. Between the drawing room and the family kitchen is a formal dining room. A second sitting room is also on the front of the house with a unique fireplace with window above. This feature fireplace designed by Joseph Sykes has a mirrored window shutter of unusual design.

On the first floor there are five double bedrooms with a total of three bathrooms. The master suite has a lofty and spacious bedroom, an adjoining ensuite character bathroom with cast iron slipper bath. The first guest suite has a similar lofty bedroom with exposed trusses and an en suite bathroom with roll top bath. Three further spacious bedrooms and an additional dressing room are to the rear of the house with the family bathroom complete with roll top bath, separate shower, basin and WC.
