THE GENEALOGY HENRY and ANN KINNE THE GENEALOGY of HENRY and ANN KINNE PIONEERS OF SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS By FLORANCE KEENEY ROBERTSON, M.A. WE T Z E L p U B L I S H I N G C O • , l N C • 524 SOUTH SPRING STREET Los ANGELES, CALIFORNIA COPYRIGHT 1947 BY FLORANCE KEENEY ROBERTSON, M. A. 2447 So. ORANGE DR., Los ANGELES 16, CALIF iv PREFACE In 1942 Vol. 1 of The Keayne-Keen(e)-Keeney-Kinne(y)-Kenney and Allied Families was published. In chronological order this might be called Vol. II. But I am treating it as a distinct book for the 1'ollowing two reasons.- 1st-It contains only known descendants of Henry Kinne, pioneer of Salem, Mass. with their families and the ancestries of those intermarrying therewith, whereas the Vol. I above, contains certain lines of descendants of the several different immigrant ancestors to this country, all of which are undoubtedly of the same European stock and early European ancestry although many lines thereof were scattered throughout Ireland, Scotland, Englanl and other European countries, even before settling in the New World. 2nd-This book is of a dis tinctly different form, binding and general make-up than Vol. I, above, whereas Vol. II, which is now in preparation, and succeeding volumes of the same will be identical in form with Vol. I. On page 1, and elsewhere, I have referred to Our Family Na.me, a 4 pp. pam phlet, published by me in 1937 which shows the history, derivation, meaning and various orthographies of the Kinne name. It appears in the records under nearly 100 distinct spellings. It will also be noted that there are several differences in the spelling of the name by various present day families who are all descendants of Henry and Ann, Pioneers of Salem. Likewise, what might appear to be inconsistencies in the spelling of the names of those marrying into the Kinne family are not errors but designate a few of the more common forms used by these various families. The names of cities and towns are taken from historical records and may vary from present-day spelling. Early in his career, as the leading anti-slavery lawyer in Illinois in the 1830s, he won the cases constricting and then abolishing slavery in that state; six decades later, Trumbull represented imprisoned labor leader Eugene Debs in the Supreme Court, and wrote the Populist Party platform. The Conan Family of Foilagoule, Moyaliff, Co. Tipperary Compiled by Michael F. McGraw, Ph.D. [email protected] March 25, 2018 Circa 1970 photo from Paul Conan, Jr. of the Conan homestead in Foilagoule. The Jerry Conan family survived the Great Irish Famine on their small five acre farm in the townland of Foilagoule, in Moyaliff civil parish, Co. Tipperary. As the famine came to an end various members of his family decided to emigrate from Ireland to America. Five of his six known children would leave Ireland in the next decade and they all settled in the Pompey area of Onondaga County in Central New York State. Mary, the second oldest, arrived in 1850 followed by her older brother, James, in 1852. Her younger brother John arrived in 1855, and another younger brother, Jeremiah, by 1860. The youngest member of the family, Honora, arrived in the Pompey area by 1863. In this paper these five Conan children are followed through census and church records and newspaper archives. These sources are used to trace the five families through at least two generations and several interesting obituaries are included. They married into other Upperchurch families: Ryan, Maher and Phelan. Jerry Conan and Winifred Walsh 03-25-18 - 1 - Copyright © 2018 Michael F. JACOB HUBLEY 1762 - 1833 By Kenneth Douglas Hubley Introduction to Revised Chapter 3 - Jacob Shortly after the publishing of the second edition of the HUBLEY eBook, Robert “Bob” Hegerich did an extensive review of Chapter 3 – Jacob dated November 2007. His review was communicated to me in four (4) Errata e-mails. Attached to Errata #3 was a pdf file entitled Jacob son of Ulrich based on Bob’s meticulously researched HUBLEY family tree. This revision is that pdf file. The date of the file is August 04, 2008, i.e., almost 12 years ago. The Chapter includes five (5) generations from Jacob’s father Ulrich and includes descendants that were born in the early 1900’s. We hope everyone enjoys the revised chapter and we apologize for any and all errors included with the original edition of Chapter 3 – Jacob. Introduction to the Original Edition of Chapter 3 - Jacob I am an 8th generation Hubley, born in Bridgewater, Lunenburg Co, Nova Scotia, eldest son of William Douglas Hubley and Marjorie Ruth Crouse. Both Douglas and Marjorie grew up in Bridgewater, Lunenburg Co, Nova Scotia - he lived in the North end and she lived in the South end of town. My father passed away September 15th, 2005 in his 84th year. My mother still lives in Bridgewater and is 83 years of age passed away November 24, 2015 in her 92nd year. My interest in genealogy happened quite by accident. In fact one might say it was a serendipitous experience involving my wife. On the evening of September 11th 2002 she was at a Church Hall in Welland, Ontario speaking to approximately 30 people.

  • History of Belleville, Illinois. Pub:1951
L I E) RAR.Y OF THE UNIVERSITY Of ILLINOIS 377. 389 Na7K SURVei ILL. HIST. A HISTORY OF BELLEVILLE BY Alvin Louis Nebelsick, B.S.; A.M. Head of Department of Social Studies Township High School and Junior College Belleville, Illinois rv ' /v ^ DEDICATION This work is affectionately dedicated to the Pioneers and Progressive Citizens of Our City of Belleville, Illinois. ^ o^ VI PREFACE This volume is largely the result of an inspiration for writing acquired as co-author of two magazine articles, one in our state professional magazine, "Illinois Education," May, 1937, and the other in a national professional magazine, "Social Studies," February, 1939. I have discovered that there is an appalling lack of information about local communities among the citizens as a whole. I believe community interest should always be encouraged. Surely we need not be reminded that the very foundation of democratic government is to be found in the communities and in the ability of the citizens to deal success- fully with their local problems. To understand these problems is a complicated matter so we must plan intelligently. This I believe impossible without a knowledge of our past. Our history is so much alive and growing that I find it hard to see how anyone can think of it as dead and dry. History always looks forward, not backward; it is dynamic, not static. Out of the world of yesterday, the world of today has grown; out of the world of today, will come the world of tomorrow. It is impossible to understand fully the present without a knowledge of the conditions which have brought it about; and it is equally impossible to make intelligent decisions for the future as we have only an uncomprehending view of the age in which we live.
