Selected Shakhbazian Groups page 7 www.FaintFuzzies.com How to Use the Atlas Shakhbazian 1 (Ursa Major) N The top left panel contains the naked eye field E with the TelRadTM superimposed on the center of the Shakhbazian Compact Galaxy Group. The top right panel contains the inverted DSS image. The image is generally 10’ square, otherwise larger. The bottom panel is a finder field of about 4.8º across and 3.0º high. The finder field is wide enough for the finder scope and detailed NGC 7497 enough for those who choose to use a low power eyepiece as a “finder”, like I do. The limiting magnitude of the field stars is generally set to 12.0, but set to a lower limit in star rich regions. Pay attention to the NGC 7454 magnitude scale on the bottom left. The field N Galaxy E of the DSS image is superimposed on the 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 Object RA Dec # Mag Size finder chart. 10 52 15 +40 43 31 17 17+ 1.4’ The images are oriented north pointed up and west to the right. A catalog (pages 6 and 7) and table is provided below each Shakhbazian Group listing the following basic information: • RA and Dec are in Epoch 2000.0 • Object/Other – The listed catalog name of the brightest member(s) • RA and Dec – coordinates in Epoch 2000.0 • # - the number of galaxies as listed in Shakhbazian’s paper. • Mag – magnitude or magnitude range of the members. • Size – listed size of the group. The number of members (#), Magnitude of the brightest member and Size are provided by VisieR or NASA Extragalactic Database (NED).
