Module aims and objectives This module is designed to equip learners with the necessary skills to perform the roles and responsibilities of people working in a , and to effectively use industry standard equipment techniques employed in a television studio.

This module builds on the core production skills already gained in Video Production 1 and Video Production 2 and enables learners to expand their production skills into multi-camera television studio programming.

Minimum intended module learning outcomes

On successful completion of this module, the learner will be able to:

(i) Confidently identify and apply the knowledge, concepts and perspectives relevant to current television studio production methods. (ii) Evaluate the suitability of the project idea for their intended target audience (iii) Resolve issues in project research and planning and develop contingency plans (iv) Consider legal issues in production and how they apply in practice (v) Competently use appropriate professional equipment and methods for realizing a television studio production, adhering to health and safety regulations. (vi) Identify roles and relationships between key television studio personnel. (vii) Devise a television studio lighting and floor plan. (viii) Outline the sequence of activities or work-flow involved in realizing studio productions. (ix) Devise and produce a television programme, demonstrating ability to work productively as a member of a television production team and studio crew.

Module content, organisation and structure Indicative module content:  Television broadcast standards, with particular attention to Irish context and considerations (RTE, TG4, BAI)  Health and safety for television studio production  Television studio professional practice and terminology  Production control room and studio floor  Analysis of studio crew roles: floor manager, director, lighting supervisor, autocue , , , graphics generator, sound supervisor and assistant and  Principles of studio direction  Operating a television studio camera  Studio lighting: light sources, accessories, grid, power supply and specialist techniques  Introduction to television sound recording including mixing desk operation, and fold-back  Incorporating video inserts into live studio programming  Vision Mixing  Livematte  Caption and graphics operations  Understanding the relationship between running order, script and television studio production operations
