BRDC NEWS No BRDC NEWS No. 144 – 23 October 2013 www.brdc.co.uk 750MC – SATURDAY 26 OCTOBER WALTER HAYES TROPHY – SATURDAY 2 & SUNDAY 3 NOVEMBER This Saturday the unique Birkett Six Hour relay race will be held on the Grand Prix circuit. The Clubhouse will be open 9am – 5pm serving a sandwich lunch. The Walter Hayes Trophy on 2-3 November will be the last event of the season at Silverstone. There will be fireworks and a bonfire at the Circuit on Sunday from 5.30pm. The Clubhouse is open 9am – 5pm both days serving a 2/3 course lunch on Saturday (see menu below) and a carvery on Sunday. Starter Haddock fishcakes with capers and horseradish with tartar sauce and market leaves Butternut squash and sage soup with bacon crisp and croutons Butternut squash and sage soup with croutons (v) Main Course Seared chicken supreme and jugged celery, bacon, apples and almonds on mustard mash, juices Wild mushroom and leek bread pudding with balsamic tomatoes and braised celery (v) Dessert Pancakes with caramel, bananas and blueberries, clotted cream To book for either of these events please email Aspire Hospitality at [email protected] or telephone 01327 855104 by the Wednesday before the weekend if possible. CAMPSITE SHUTDOWN The campsite will close for winter after the Walter Hayes meeting on 2-3 November. If you have a motorhome on the campsite can you please ensure it is removed as soon as reasonably possible after this meeting. This year’s card features another design from the Carl Giles collection at the British Cartoon Archive, University of Kent. There will be a celebration of Sean’s life at the Berkeley Hotel, Wilton Place (Ballroom entrance) afterwards. All are welcome at both. It is requested that no flowers be sent. If you wish to make a donation in Sean’s memory, please do so to the Sean Edwards Foundation (further details available from [email protected]) NOTICE OF DEATH - SIMON PHILLIPS It is with regret that the Club has to announce the death of Life Member, Simon Phillips, on 16 October 2013. Simon competed in sports car and endurance racing from the mid 1970s through to the early 1980s. He contested the Le Mans 24 Hours race five times with his best result coming in 1982 driving the Nimrod Aston Martin NRA/C2 to seventh place overall and fourth in class sharing with Ray Mallock and Mike Salmon. Simon joined the BRDC as a Full Member in 1978 and served as a Club Director in 1992. Simon’s father, William Dustan Phillips, was also a Full Member of the BRDC joining in 1931. Condolences have been sent to Simon’s wife Sheila. Funeral details are not yet known.
